Re: How does life change post-vaccine?
I think what people aren't understanding is that there are two types of immunity that can be achieved via vaccine, effective immunity and sterilizing immunity. Effective immunity means that you can still become a host of the virus, but are protected from it having a detrimental effect on your health. Sterilizing immunity means you can't be a host.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5011745/
All that we know so far is that the Covid vaccine provides effective immunity. We don't yet know whether the vaccine provides sterilizing immunity. That DOESN'T mean that the vaccine does not provide sterilizing immunity. It just means we don't yet know if it provides sterilizing immunity.
I don't get why it's so hard for people to understand that absence of proof is not proof the other way.
In America where like 3 people are vaccinated, it might not be different until we have more data on the above.
But in Israel, where basically everyone (who wants to) will be vaccinated - there will be much more liberties taken. Death rate will be at least 20 times lower - likely a magnitude greater than that. So the risk is much less even if you are a silent carrier.

If you're right, and the courts don't guarantee him a fair trial, the logical step for him would be Political Asylum. There is only one country that would do it.
We'd take him with open arms and he'd deserve it. Irrelevant of him being a terrible president and a disgusting person

So in a country in lockdown. With a mask mandate. With almost 2 million people vaccinated we have 10,000 cases a day which would be equivalent to around 830k people in the USA.

Something is missing. Facts are starting to not make sense.
Curious what you think could be going on

I'm not sure it's that surprising. Real lockdown started on Friday, would have zero effect yet. Spread is like crazy, masks are less effective when prevalence is so bad.
Partial lockdown is more harmful than no lockdown, so we are likely seeing some of the effects of that
Also, the shortening of bidud to ten days with negative tests has led lots more exposed people to be tested - probably catching a lot more asymptomatics then before.
Also, tons of household spread, which probably is exacerbated by lockdown
Less than half the vaccinations are more than ten days out, so vaccination drive will have a muted impact, at least for another week or two

So....my daughter got the exact same results - which firstly seems odd. She tested negative twice after my wife tested positive, but I guess either they were false negatives or it's possible she had it before my wife and by the time she tested was already negative?

We should force the people who produce, and those who publish, such outlandish predictions to take bets on their numbers. If I offered the author of the article 100K bet on the number (224K additional deaths by Jan 1) - at 2 to 1 odds - is there a chance in the world he takes the bet?

Some of my family had Covid around Sukkos. Of those who did not, some tested positive for antibodies around Chanuka and some negative. Our doctor said that she has been seeing results like these in many families and she is perplexed by it.
Tests were done in Meuhedet.
Not sure what's perplexing about that.

Re: Interesting Articles: COVID-19 Edition
Not sure why anybody would think the world won't work scientifically after Moshiach comes. Perhaps there will be more interference from Hashem but the fundamental rules of nature are not expected to change. We will still need to do hishtadlus to prevent illness just like we eat to provide nourishment.

Those who think Emuna is somehow contradictory to science have a serious flaw in their belief. Science works because Hashem gave it the powers. He can override it but he doesn't always do so.
If most of the world comes to hakaras haboreh through this pandemic - I find it hard to believe this wouldn't bring mashiach. And if that IYH does come too pass - I find it unlikely that COVID wouldn't disappear

I'm not sure what exactly you mean but Consistently for the last month frum cities have around 3x of every metric, positive cases, positivity rate, hospitalizations, and graves. Maybe it was a mistake to take pride in 'taking less precautions'

And remember, we are looking for serious cases not just asymptomtic or even flu-like symptoms.
Honestly, I think you lost major credibility with this post. It shows a major misunderstanding of the pandemic. So what, a group of 750 (what percentage under 40) didn't have a hospitalization - and therefore what? By your admittance, they clearly had multiple covid cases, likely spreading to the greater population and putting people at risk.

Re: When will the current wave peak in the US?
Where do you see the US heading in the short term? My guess is that we will see the US peak and then subside in the next 2-3 weeks long before vaccines have an impact.
Looks like around two weeks or so behind schedule. Otherwise on target. Peaking and then declining despite no noticeable increase in adherence to CDC guidelines.
Just to be clear, you consider 150K cases a day subsiding?

Re: UK COVID Mutation
Technically speaking if an evolution takes x amount of time+spread, it follows that around the same time many different ones will emerge.
That's not really how it works. Mutations are random events. Very dissimilar from
Quote
I.e. if pregnancy takes 9 months, it follows that 9 months after a seeding event many different babies will appear around the same time.
Which is a direct cause/effect event
Quote
Additionally, the UK was doing orders of magnitude more sequencing than other countries so they were more likely to identify it, and then other countries started checking more and found others.
That is definitely slightly true, but there has been sequencing going on all over for a while and nothing was found
Quote
We are also more worried about benign mutations now (Making them discussed more),
More discussed, yes. But it's still a fact that there were no significant mutations until recently

only UK & SA have been proven to really be worse, although to me P.1 from Brazil is the scariest.

Re: The current state of COVID-19 in Israel
I'm sorry, I didn't word it right. According to the CDC- "COVID-19 mRNA vaccines give instructions for our cells to make a harmless piece of what is called the 搒pike protein. The spike protein is found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID-19." Maybe the so-called 'harmless piece of spike protein' can in fact be dangerous?? I am not being fed malicious 'misinformation' I'm just questioning & hoping for a good explanation. & I'm also wondering why others don't question. That's all.
It's not always about 'misinformation' it's more like the lack of information that cause us to question. Hydroxychloroquine treatment was also considered 'misinformation'... Frankly I'm sick & tired of the term 'misinformation' Last I've checked Twitter & Facebook don't hold a medical degree of any sort.
Because it's a piece of protein, not a virus. Like a million other proteins that can be found in your body

Re: 2019-2021 Israeli Election (See Also: Definition Of Insanity) I heard an interview today with Porush on Kol Baramah. He was being asked about this - Charedim abandoning gimmel and voting for Smotrich/Ben Gvir.
He first dismissed it out of hand, saying that every election cycle there is talk about charedim moving to Likud or Bennet and there is even polling indicating that and it never plays out (a better interviewer would have asked here about the mayoral elections in Beit Shemesh, but I digress)
They followed up and said - that's different - to vote Likud or Bennet you really have to put your frumkeit on the side, but this is a true dati party.
He responded that anyone who feels מושמד as a charedi will understand that they need to vote for gimmel. Smotrich won't take care of you - he will take care of bnei akiva, not charedim (he ignored the question as to why he couldn't care for both). He added, if anything there are dati leumi/chardalniks who empathize with the plight of the charedim as an oppressed people and will vote gimmel in solidarity.

I honestly find the argument to be so weak - vote for us because you are an oppressed victim and we are the only ones who will defend you. Such a negative propaganda based campaign.

I think gimmel has 3 sets of voters:
1. Those who ideologically are in line with the party
2. Those who fear the propaganda and think without the party, the state will raid them at night and shmad their children
3. Those who are reluctant to vote against the gedolim and fear going up to shamayim and having to answer why they didn't put their lot with the charedim ldvar hashem (for the record I'm part of this group)

I wonder what percentage fit into group 2 and group 3 and at what point the grip will be loosened and they will start to lose those voters in large numbers

Re: 2019-2021 Israeli Election (See Also: Definition Of Insanity)
Huh? You're asking for a citation that something doesn't exist?

How about you bring citations from sifrei Halacha (Rambam, Tur, Rif, Shulchan Oruch, etc.) that it is a מצוות עשה דאורייתא?
I'm sure you are aware that Tur/Rif/Shulchan Aruch do not mention many mitzvos aseh d'oraisah. Though https://www.sefaria.org/Shulchan_Arukh%2C_Even_HaEzer.74?lang=he halacha daled and heh are clear that you can compel a spouse to move to EY. Rambam in hilchos avadim/hilchos ishus says similar. Most acharonim, (avnei nezer, chasam sofer, chazon ish, etc.) assume the Rambam held it's a mitzvas aseh d'oraisah

It's not like there is a shortage of discussion on the topic, so you aren't really looking for "something that doesn't exist"

YES. If she would try to leave today, she would probably be denied. What will happen in the future is anyone's guess.

Here again, if the travel were today, then quarantine wouldn't be the question, she would simply be denied boarding onto a flight to TLV without special permission which isn't likely to be granted. Supposedly vaccination allows one to avoid quarantine, but then again, we're talking about Israel, and we're talking about COVID-19 - anything is subject to change.
