Re: AN URGENT APPEAL TO THE NY YESHIVA COMMUNITY
I had 2-2.5 hours of daily secular studies in high school and only had 3 years of it. Still managed a 1420 on the SAT, skipped college, and got a 3.98 GPA in business grad school.

4.4 hours seems excessive. Negotiating tactic?
It's not a negotiating tactic as there is very little communication from the education department to the yeshivos, and it was already supposed to be implemented but the court voided it.

In public, there has no been a good faith effort to actually work on the length. Sure, if we're talking 4.5 vs. 3, that's fair. But the community isn't even publicly behind that.

Major Rabbanim and Rosh Yeshivas went to Albany to discuss, and although they had originally been assured that the new guidelines would be a joint effort, the state went back on their word.

Overall, the point is that the state can certainly set expectations of what our students should know, there's no reason for them to dictate how we teach it, and how much time we spend on it.

Many of them eventually get degrees so they probably are more academically capable than you give them credit for.
I personally have seen enough to be considered many.

Capable? Who spoke about their capabilities? I am sure they are very capable.

Re: The Pope Encourages people to keep Sabbath,Do you appreciate or dislike shabbos?
&feature=youtu.be

When I was younger to be honest I didn't love shabbos, until I started work and got a family, it is one of the best gifts in my life.

Ok, let the popcorn begin.
Can we please have a thread about shabbos. Why in tarnation is the pope here. Who gives a rats tail what he says about shabbos? I won't watch it.

You can't be objective so best we end here.
This is one of your go-tos. Never mind that I have a history in this thread of going against popular opinion. Never mind that we have the text of the bill with the video of her saying the bill - specifying Nazi, Japanese & Apartheid boycotts - is talking about BDS. Never mind that she put it in her damn press release. In the face of that, *I'm* the one that's not being objective? Please.

Serious question, has anyone ever told you to go back where you came from, or a variation on that?

Re: Silent Killer
The community has nothing to do if a drug is a gateway drug or not. If kids are going from pot to heroin in the Jewish community the problem is not pot. Spend your time and resources address the root of the problem not chasing a rabbit down a hole.
👇
This is something you know nothing about...i.e. drug use in the religious Jewish community.

Re: The Holocaust
What about the swiss and polish who generations later (and probably still today) are hiding and not returning all what was taken during the war.
I always wondered if there is any data on how much revenue the most famous tourist attraction in Poland, known as "Auschwitz-Birkenau" generates into the Polish economy.

The fact that such a slaughter factory was placed precisely on that place, among those inhabitants, is a significant sign on the nature of that culture, I even doubt if they would be able to establish that close to a civilized Berlin or Frankfurt. Yet in the same time the Polish are literally allergic to any sort of associating that with Poland and even criminalized it.

Which brings me back to my above question, how much revenue does the 1.5 million visitors to Auschwitz a year generate into their economy? Do they have any measures taken to invest ALL those earnings, not just the actual admission fees into the camps, but all lodging, eatery, and transportation industries yieldings into Holocaust memorial or such? If that's not the case, then we are witnessing today in 2019 the worst interpretation of "הרצחת וגם ירשת", not just inheriting the victims fortunes but monetizing their shed blood.

“Finally,” concluded the editorial, “while we would not sink to name-calling in the Trumpian manner — or ruefully point out that he failed to spell the congressman’s name correctly (it’s Cummings, not Cumming) — we would tell the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes, the gleeful grabber of women’s private parts, the serial bankrupter of businesses, the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin and the guy who insisted there are ‘good people’ among murderous neo-Nazis that he’s still not fooling most Americans into believing he’s even slightly competent in his current post. Or that he possesses a scintilla of integrity. Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one.”
WHat other things "won't they do"?
