Re: Trump banning 7 major Muslim countries citizens entry into the US
This isn't why Saudis aren't on the list Hint: it follows the Obama administrations classification of countries of "concern". https://sethfrantzman.com/2017/01/28/obamas-administration-made-the-muslim-ban-possible-and-the-media-wont-tell-you/ January 28, 2017, 10:13:00 PM |

Re: 2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread
I guess her "alternative facts" comment was her using the wrong words. But wait she didn't take back that one. I am honestly SO not bothered at all by "alternative facts." I saw the clip where she said it. They were arguing about statistics. Statistics are the most deceptively weak form of argument precisely because they sound so solid but say so little. She was basically saying, "You can quote your numbers, and I am sure you have your sources, but we have different numbers." That, to me, is totally valid. To grab on to her saying "alternative facts" and to make hay of it is typical of the kind of sophomoric satire that the Left loves to engage in. Okay, we get it. She said the wrong words. We get it. It's over. Now you can go back to quoting Monty Python movies while milk squirts out of your nose. Nobody's laughing at your geeky humor anymore... oh, except I forgot, half the country who also thinks this is cool but doesn't even know why. And this is precisely why people like me who don't even like Trump are rooting for him in his war against the media. February 05, 2017, 02:04:40 AM |

Re: 2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread
You know what I find troubling is they just released a statement they are looking at their options. They weren't prepared for both possible decisions? This EO from the start has been a three ring circus. That is the standard response that everyone gives to any legal or procedural loss. How to proceed also somewhat depends on the nuances of the decision. February 09, 2017, 07:28:05 PM |

Re: Interesting Articles...
They were long time customers. So they had no problem selling to gays but when they wanted to get married they said no.Huh? I don't see any problem with that argument. That's a classic misperception of people who are against gay marriage. As an orthodox jew I believe God doesn't want us to engage in homesexual activity but I don't judge nor treat the gay PERSON any less than a straight person. I certainly wouldn't refuse to let him buy flowers. However to participate in (and evermore so beautify) a CELEBRATION of something that I believe God doesn't want done is something I am not able to do. Is that such a hard distinction to hear? You are throwing things out there that I have no idea if they are facts or alternative facts. Trumps claim is everyone will have insurance. Not going to happen. You need to get past what Trump does or doesn't, did or didn't say. He lies, exaggerates, uses hyperbole or whatever you want to call it. Now that we got that out of the way, the current R plan makes no sense to me at all. Unless I see something in it I am not seeing now I will not be defending it. March 14, 2017, 12:50:10 AM |

Re: Shlichus Addiction?
I disagree with this. Preparation for shlichus is limud haTorah. It's not just my opinion, it's something I've heard from many shluchim including Berel Lazar, who you might think would have benefited from some sort of communications or politics class.Spot on! and whaddaya know? that same unadulterated לימוד תורה (preferably על טהרת הקודש) which prepares one so well for a life of shlichus, by imparting a knowledge and appreciation for hashem, his torah, and the awareness that אין עוד מלבדו, also happens to be a great prep for a life of a chassidisher balebos (perhaps even more so...), and for that matter, the best prep for a frum jewish life at all... and isn't that the 'core' of what shlichus should be about anyway? This cant wait until Friday and maybe we can smoke out JTZ in his new incarnation...You're right. This is the scandal of the century. If the person would've cared for health reasons it would've been a perfectly reasonable request, albeit possibly a bit overly cautious, but being as there were religion intentions behind the request, off to the guillotine he goes. This is an emergency situation that demands an immediate outcry. It's a good thing it didn't wait till Friday. The world may not have survived till then. I hope everybody responds immediately with their experiences with religious fanatics like the one in the OP for the sake of societies continuation, and properly appreciates the urgency of the situation. Re: Ads on DDMS
Friday popcorn in the house! Lots of good blogs have vanished and many more will in the next couple of years as the walls continue to close in. I have no idea how someone could think that asking people to unblock ads is worse than a handout. You're not paying a membership fee for reading a site or posting on a forums, nor does it cost you a dime to unblock ads. Obviously when the ads look like Times Sq or cover your whole screen, they don't deserve to be unblocked, but otherwise what exactly is the issue? The costs to maintain a large website and forum with big traffic spikes are truly massive. Income sources are incredibly fickle and precarious and I have no idea what tomorrow will bring. Back when we had direct relationships with the banks there was no need for adsense, but there is clearly a need to diversify income streams. Yes, BH the site provides a good living for my family and JJs family, but if it stopped being profitable, then yes, it would close. I'm not asking for donations, just think twice before you decide to deprive a site that you use and enjoy of a revenue stream. September 01, 2017, 06:36:11 PM |

Re: Rubashkin freed from prison.
If you believe that people are sentenced unjustly, put your money where your mouth is an advocate on behalf of even 1 person serving an unjust amount of time for a non-violent drug offence. Here's a good place to start: https://www.alternet.org/drugs/15-people-rotting-prison-life-drug-crimes-didnt-hurt-anybody I'm not sure I understand the logic to this "all or nothing" approach. Frankly, it sounds very bitter. When your family celebrates your birthday, do you demand that they celebrate everyone in the world who has a birthday on the same day? Maybe we shouldn't celebrate engagement parties and weddings because your friends are caught up in the shidduch crisis? This is a man that gave a tremendous amount to Jewish establishments around the world with an open heart. Nobody that knows him well has a bad word to say about him. He was given an unjust sentence and they felt the need to advocate on his behalf and did so for years and years to no avail. He finally got out and they are celebrating. Sure, other people have been unjustly imprisoned, but why and how does that affect this story? December 21, 2017, 12:29:55 PM |

Re: Rubashkin freed from prison.
Liberals: Everyone illegal should be allowed to stay, and get govt benefits, and bring their family. But, lock up anyone who employs them. This is 100% accurate. @shaulyaakov has absolutely no idea how hiring works in the real world. If the person has valid documents, you have to hire them even if you know in your heart of hearts that they're illegal. Otherwise you get sued for discrimination. And trust me they all find a way to get valid docs. December 21, 2017, 03:40:01 PM |

Hamodia: "Can you discuss a little who were some of the people that you were most involved with in this effort?" Dershowitz: "Sure. Most important was Rabbi Zvi Boyarsky, the head of the Aleph Institute; he organized a great many things." People like Dershowitz, Boyarsky, and Kushner actually worked behind the scenes to make it happen. Even if they don't feel the need to gloat about it to the world and spread nasty L"H about others. Re: Rubashkin freed from prison.
Sorry did not mean to ignore your post. You come up with valid points. I am glad you posted for everyone to see that there were children working at this plant and according to you at all these plants. The thing is I don't care when it comes to children. That is not just about this individual. I would say the exact same thing if it was the Pope. It is not my job to come up with a solution and I am not going to try.No one denied there were underage workers there. It's a strawman that *you* created and beat down. Saying you would feel the same if it was the pope says nothing about agri's actions, it's just empty moral grandstanding on your part which has no bearing on Rubashkin. Even with the testimony of the minors (which was fraught with contradictions and many issues) he was cleared. Because he did nothing wrong (in that regard). You thinking that you're "all about the kids" without even a semblance of a clue how anyone should solve the problem doesn't make anyone else guilty, it just makes you feel good about yourself. Chilul Shabbos for a non jew (AKA the Noah Feldman issue) is a very different sugya, much discussed in 2005 or whenever that wasThank you. Exactly.
