I don’t want to say all without thinking every mental illness through, but I can draw the line when the person openly believes in fake science.

Ah. So it's not the mental illness that's the issue.

Re: Should all Americans receive another stimulus check? How about 2 or 3 more?
Methinks that as long as you're aware of where we're heading you can use the stimulus, etc. to your advantage (i.e. invest based on the outcome of unsustainable government debt).

Unfortunately if (when?) America goes bust there will be bigger problems than individual people’s assets.

Re: Personal Tzadaka/Charity Master Thread https://www.rayze.it/pidyonshvuyim/

Funds needed for Rabbi Osher Eisemann's legal defense. He's now facing about 10-12 years in prison, and he is completely innocent. As they pursue an appeal at the NJ Supreme Court, they need money for an additional lawyer, as well as legal fees for the lower courts as the case goes for resentencing.

I'm willing to answer any questions about the case, as I'm pretty familiar, though this thread may not be the right place for it.

Good thing נחשון בן עמינדב and Pinchas didn't use that logic.
Not the case for either.

2019, and for sure 2020/2021 probably dwarfs 2018.
Which is why the high valuation in prior years was well deserved and not due to Amazon "not needing profits"

Worth posting this priceless excerpt

Quote
the Falcone short squeeze is one of my all-time favorite financial stories and I advise you to read the complaint for humor and inspiration. Quick summary: Falcone owned some bonds of a company called MAAX Holdings Inc. “After hearing rumors that a Wall Street financial services firm was shorting the MAAX bonds and also encouraging its customers to do the same, Falcone decided to seek revenge.” So he bought all the MAAX bonds. Then he bought more: Short sellers would borrow MAAX bonds (presumably from him), and then sell them to him, so that he ended up with “22 million more bonds than MAAX had ever issued.” Then he stopped lending them out, forcing the short sellers to buy bonds to cover their shorts. But there were no bonds to be bought, since he owned them all (and more). At some point an executive from the “Wall Street firm” called up Falcone to talk about the situation, and even in the SEC’s dry language you can tell that it was one of the greatest conversations in all of Wall Street history:

At some point, the conversation turned to the trading in the MAAX bonds. The senior officer asked Falcone how the Wall Street firm might satisfy its obligation to Harbinger. Falcone stated that the Wall Street firm should just keep bidding for the bonds. Falcone acknowledged that the Wall Street firm would suffer some losses doing so, but told the senior officer and the others that sometimes you are just on the wrong side of a trade.

In the course of this discussion, Falcone stated that he knew that the short position in the MAAX zips had created a “long” position in excess of the issue size. When the senior officer asked how he could possibly know this, Falcone stated that he was working the position himself and that he (i.e., Harbinger) had acquired approximately 190 million bonds. The senior officer and the other the Wall Street firm personnel were stunned.

“Just keep bidding for the bonds,” “sometimes you are just on the wrong side of a trade,” I love it so much.

Wouldn't some of the Redit posters requires licenses to promote stocks to the public? I guess you can say that about every poster here, so how does that work?

I couldn't find a correct one. This is literally a list of strawmen arguments at the very best.
If you couldn't find a correct one it says more about you than about what was written. The same would go for someone who couldn't find a wrong one.

Admitting that they have liquidity problems isn't good either.

Admitting they have a liquidity problem to cover billions during a once-in-a-lifetime trading crunch is a bigger problem than conspiring with Hedge funds and government regulators to stop trading, force selling, and who knows what else?

Not for future investors in Robinhood. They have an IPO coming up and need to protect their reputation.

That's the explanation I read online - not an expert...

Well, if the purpose of your company is to give the average Joe the opportunity to trade, and a massive story breaks that threatens to break the trust in your service from your users and decimate your user base, that's gonna be amazeballs for your investors too.

Re: The current state of COVID-19 in Israel I'm very much pro-vax, but I understand @Chayal's position. I'm personally very leery of the Covid vaccines, but I'm also predisposed to skepticism and distrust of new things. That said, there is a special place in hell for people who put out misinformation about the vaccines causing people not to get vaccinated.

Push comes to shove, I'll probably get vaccinated, but only because I realized that if C"V something bad comes from the vaccines, I'll be left in a world full of anti-vaxxers. I'd rather roll the dice with Pfizer.

Or, maybe his letter was the truth, and they have someone to cover for him on Shabbos? If he was not being truthful in his retraction, why the need to retract at all and risk people coming up with theories such as yours?

This thread is about if we're going too far, not if we're behaving unconstitutionally.

Re: Are we going too far?
True, but fundamentally if you are entitled to self determine what's right and what's wrong, they have the same right. Many people will behave ridiculously as a result of that, but we like it because it allows us to behave in a way we think is right.

In terms of employment specifically there are many laws in place (many of which I think are actually unfair)
So there is nothing at all wrong with people complaining when they feel the line is drawn too tight.

Re: Lakewood covid cases
The problem is that you prefer to err on the side of your personal comfort instead of erring on the side of protecting everybody else.

The lack of concern for society is precisely what makes secular Jews hate frum Jews and non-Jews hate Jews

I don't have the time now to detail why, but this is one of the more vile comments I have seen on this forum, and that's saying something.
