Re: Adding Financial Literacy Courses In Yeshivas
I would also include a course in the history of vaccine development and rudimentary statistics (p-values etc.)
so they are educated enough to avoid the other major scam in the jewish world pro-plague literature and “studies”. ( In the interest of totally taking this thread OT 😀)
ftfy ;)

Re: Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
My point in bringing this story is that it's not financial literacy classes that are needed, but rather proper study of Torah material. If anyone would really care to teach Chumash and Minshnayos making sure that every word and concept is properly understood, that would go a very long way in creating proper financial literacy, without having a dedicated course for that topic.
It is asinine to believe that the average person can learn everything they need to know about modern financial literacy from "proper" limud torah.

That was an extreme exaggeration.

Obviously. But your point was understood, and my statement stands, that anyone responding like that when asked about a practical application, needs to start learning.

It's actually a pet peeve of my FIL who tries to translate Chassidus terms into something more practical (linguistically) and relatable, rather than just use the terms brought down in the sources, to make sure there's an actual understanding.

Re: Adding Financial Literacy Courses In Yeshivas
Why is this even a discussion? Why would anyone be against Yidden being more knowledgeable in the way Hashem runs the world?

If it's taught that way, rather than as part of how to do certain functions within the world, I don't think there's opposition (other than the fact that there might not be people trained in teaching it that way).

Interesting read about what Yeshiva education is all about here (also watch the first video at the bottom).

Re: Adding Financial Literacy Courses In Yeshivas
Similar to many mesivtas in the US with 2-3 hours secular studies in the afternoon

Many, but not all. Most Tri State Area mesivats are like in Israel, no secular. In Europe, no such thing. And its min 4 hours. And they are taught by professionals. And GCSE's A Levels are miles ahead of Regents.

(But that fine, because American kids will go on to College where they will in-debt themselves forever - and/or have parents bribe to get them in - while in Europe, this too is free/very cheap)
