Re: Prison
Not at all! Thank you so much do sharing. I’m sure it’s painful to think about.

You should really compile this to be published. Maybe I’m naive, but perhaps more awareness can be an impetus for change. It’s also such an inspirational story that will give a lot of people chizuk.
I've been screaming "AWARENESS" in other threads here and all I've gotten was "It has to be tempered and balanced." I have some choice words for that...but I will say this, being blunt, straight-forward, sometimes crass, are the only things that work. Calling people out on their BS is the only way this works. Mameleh, tateleh, shefeleh zeesa dont work.

Any explanation/theory why they take the front?
They're just uneducated in proper etiquette...on many different levels. But that's a different discussion.

Re: Prison OK, next person to demand more posts gets sent to the hole.

Seriously, people. This is likely difficult to write from an emotional standpoint, let the man write at his own pace. He owes you nothing.

And besides, the current pace allows for a lovely amount of popcorn between parts. I'd hate to see that disappear :D.

with the 20% off code from target the mavic standard (not fly more) is $780 including tax, which is a great price (unless you live outside NY/NJ)
Better off with Fly More IMHO.

Re: Prison Wow. Unreal thread. I started reading this saga last night around 11. Stayed up till 3:30am. When my phone died I knew it was time to stop. I just finished it all. @hvaces42 my heart and soul go to you and your family.
My husband recently got indictited and took a plea. It was a bs charge and a bs case. First they charged him with 15 or so charges. All misdemeanors but 1. All of them were compete bs. This was a year ago and he just finished fulfilling his deal (no jail time Bh). From start to now (we’re not finished yet. Court still holding onto his passport) this has been so incredibly traumatic for him. He lost a lot of weight, started smoking heavily, stopped working, stayed up all night and slept all day, took a complete 180 in the yiddishkeit dept (for the ‘better’. He now davens all the time. Goes to rabbis, lights candles...). His mental health deteriorated. He became very paranoid. Stopped talking on the phone. Eventually swapped his iPhone for a flip phone cuz the govt is listening. He (like you) developed a deep hatred and mistrust for anything to do with govt. cops are pigs. Judges are animals. Prosecutors are the devil.
What he did was white collar. Complete and utter victimless. He made maybe a total of $400 on this whole thing. Maybe. And now we’re out 25k in lawyer fees and he may never go back to what he was.

I cannot even fathom what you have been and are currently going through since you actually did the prison thing. I hope one day you will recover completely and stay strong. I hope your family forgets this parsha entirely and it will feel like someone else’s story.
Thank you for sharing and bringing awareness and chizuk to those of us that have never experienced anything like it

Re: Prison
You sure you want to leave that there? It's pretty identifying. I'm not saying because of the case - just that often people don't want to be explicitly identified on forums at all.
Instead of applauding her for her bravery, we get this. Anonymity is over-rated in these forums.

Re: Prison
Anonymity is over-rated in these forums.

i always wondered what the big deal is. if you know me, you know my story. if you don't, so what? this story is not a secret and it's not shameful. neither is anything i've said on this forum. if something is truly private, i wouldn't be talking about it.

Re: Rubashkin freed from prison. What's absolutely mind-boggling to consider is if the judge had not been such a zealot, and sentenced him to, say, 16 years (which would have been both (i) far more consistent with comparable sentences and (ii) not more than the 25 years the prosecutors had asked for!), the outcry would not have been as big, the support to free him not as widespread, and the unity among klal yisroel not as strong.

It was precisely because of the unprecedented 27-year sentence that he's out after "only" eight, and not sitting for double that.

I think there's a relevant lesson here. Not often are people in this world afforded the opportunity to see the maxim of "gam zu letovah" come to vibrant life, that if the hand of God is moving, it is only doing so for the best.

An analogy that has always struck me is embroidery.  As you may know, the bottom of an embroidered picture is a chaotic, haphazard mess.  However, from the perspective of the creator, everything is in deliberate, beautiful, harmonized order.

Too many times in life we look up, shake our heads, and wonder "How could this happen?" "What did we do to deserve this?"

In those trying times, think of Shalom Rubashkin and the embroidered picture, and know that although it may look ugly from our humanly vantage (from the bottom), that is not so in true reality--from above, this, that, or whatever, is deliberate, beautiful, and for the best.

Re: Rubashkin freed from prison.
Chabad wears a different kippa then Lakewood, and has totally different Hashkafos. And men were dancing and women were crying all over Lakewood today. Don't play that card right now.

The difference between Pollard and Rubashkin isn't the kipah.

One spied on our country, and one may have done a white collar crime that deserved a few years.

Same goes for Satmar and down the line. Amazing achdus.

Had the govt not forced the business to close, he would have never been in any trouble at all. It was a big mess and 27 years was a massive injustice that nearly everyone recognized.

Re: Prison
I think to deal with the possibility of it happening and the letdown every time he thought it would or could happen, and didnt, would have been such a drain on his psyche that he probably blocked those thoughts over time. (i.e. every time an appeal was filed and a decision was pending by any of the appellate courts or at the end of Obama's term) Even if he knew he wouldnt give the possibility any real credence until it actually happened.

Dont know if this statement is coherent...sorry. I'm still stunned. Even with all that I said about his case here I am still unbelievably happy. I think my days of posting here are done after this. What can I say compared to what he has to offer. I had it good.

His Bitachon is amazing. No article that I read over the last 8 years that described him showed me anything  of the man I saw last night. I'm just blown away. I cried. If a man can speak the way he did last night after an ordeal like his I dont care what he did. He deserves all the respect.
Even if SMR himself would start posting here, we all appreciate your unique perspective on what happened to you.

Clearly Gd is involved, how else could DJT have won and could DJT's daughter convert to Judaism other than for this moment. :)
Great now that that's clear we can also credit Mr. Dershowitz, Satmar, and Chabad and whoever else we want to credit, no one ever lost out by thanking an extra person (whoever it was definitely was involved somewhat)

Re: What's your predictions for 2018?
  • On Dec 31, 2018 @aygart and a new member with remarkably similar positions to @ChaimMoskowitz will be arguing about politics on Every. Single. Thread.
  • Trump will not be impeached.
  • Gary Sanchez hits more home runs than Judge, Stanton and Bird (individually).
  • @churn-baby-churn ceases making snide remarks about Chabad. It makes him feel strangely good. He starts a chavrusah with @Freddie and next Chanukah the menorah on his car gets smashed in a parking garage. He disavows Chabad.
  • @ExGingi still won't have tried Izzy's.
  • @henche is still henche, but after henching a hench, zhe achieves peak henche with the henchiest henchover henchstory.
  • @Dan packs it all up and starts a restaurant review instagram channel. He gains enough weight to finally end the Benny confusion. He sells the rights to Dans Deals to @jj1000 for a pair of Ecco shoes, a Mike's dinner and 5 Indians tickets. (Dan ultimately refuses the latter because he finds better tickets than JJ did for half the price.)

So thankful that I live in 2018, so I do not have to deal with these ridiculous issues.
A. No need to have kids in 2018.
B. No need to get books in 2018, all online, kindle etc.
C. Judaism is overrated, no need for it in 2018.
D. No need for free stuff due to Trumps tax plan for 2018 you can pay retail for books.
E. No need to read to kids in 2018, that's what tablet time is for.
