Re: What are your thoughts as you return to shul?
Definitely agree with that,
But I was thinking maybe every person that survived has a chiyuv hodaah. Similar to singing uz yashir eventhough masei yadai just drowned in the yam suf. but maybe that was different, that was mitzrim and here many Yidden died

A seudas hodaah can be done tastefully, with a measured emphasis on the hodaah, along with proper and appropriate attention given to those who perished.

Re: NY Small Business Strike 1) It's not just 'Jewish' stores participating in this initiative. It's part of a larger campaign by MANY businesses across the city and state to get media attention to reach the tone deaf Mayor and Governor.

2) I'm going to assume that you don't own a retail business that has been devastated by COVID-19. It's very easy to sit behind a screen and judge. People's financial lives and careers are literately being squeezed to death by these Socialist politicians and these store owners will do whatever they can, to open in a responsible and safe manor.

Re: Unemployment Help I'd like to put out the call once again for people to support the efforts of @cgr by donating to the link in the wiki. She answers questions all day and night. The LRRC gets donations and a lot of government funding. She has evolved into a one-woman organization, answering all the questions for free.

I'm certain that she could advertise "Get help with UI for $100/hour" and she would have steady business. She chooses to be a free resource to everyone here.

If you got help from her, give a few dollars. You can edit the link in the wiki (after you copy it to your address bar) to put in whatever amount you wish to give.

Re: Unemployment Help
It's pretty clear from the questionnaire sent that it's not necessarily contingent on whether I was supposed to work in the summer, but rather if I can expect to return to the same job after vacation,

Found this upthread- apparently it's been discussed:

A college professor who had been teaching Spring Semester classes was assigned to teach Sumner classes but they were cancelled due to the virus. When does she apply? When Spring 2020 ends (and she is now unemployed) or when the Summer semester would have started...?

Does she usually get paid for the break?

No.

Looks like she can file from when the semester ends. See below.

https://www.jobs.ny.gov/ui/claimantinfo/unemployment-guidance-for-teachers-and-other-school-employees.shtm

So to sum it up:
If you usually get paid for 12 months and are laid off, you're eligible during summertime even if you're going back in September.
If you usually get paid for 10 months and are laid off, you're eligible during summertime as long as you don't have a definite job in September.

Re: Lakewood Shul has 2 types of minyanim
I would call the police if I witnessed a shul in clear violation of the law.

I really dont want to debate this. But you really scare me.

Re: Are you afraid every time a black man walks by you?
Depends on how menacing they look. Nothing to do with being black per se, but
And how they dressed. I’d be nervous of a group of white guys also if they’d be dressed in trashy gangster clothing. And I wouldn’t be nervous with blacks dressed in suits...
Wonder if results would be different if you’d word it differently. Instead of “every time “ how about are you ever afraid

Re: Are you afraid every time a black man walks by you? This whole thread is so incredibly stupid, even by JS standards. No one, I mean literally no one, is afraid every time they see a black person. And no one, literally no one, would *never* be afraid of seeing a black person.and this includes black people, obviously.

I mean, one of Chris Rock's most famous bits is about that!

And then to go and misconstrue someone saying how someone dresses is more indicative about what causes fear than the color of their skin to be saying he's "stereotyping people based on how they are dressed" is either a mind numbing lack of comprehension or a flagrant disingenuous troll.

Re: Will there be Sleep Away Camp this summer?
I think we need to ban Twitter screenshots. Too many fake ones going around.
Link to the Tweet or don't post IMHO.

Keep in mind that many have twitter filtered.

Re: Heroes Blog Here!
My heroes are the People who post pop corn worthy conversations where people fight over nothing for pages and pages until dan gets fed up.
You kept up entertained for weeks on end and for this we are very appreciative. Would not have been the same without you guys.

Downvote. I hope this won’t be the new normal for DDF (even for JS)...
