Re: Tzara’as and Coronavius
What is astounding to me is that klal yisroel is experiencing arguably the biggest upheaval of its kind in 2000 years- never have the batei kineisoyos, batei midrashos, and batei sefer been shuttered ACROSS THE GLOBE simultaneously ( there was always המחנה הנשאר לפליטה)- and all everyone is talking about is what to cook for pesach! HELLO, Hashem is calling out loud and clear; his handiwork is all over this. What the message is is beyond my pay grade but you better believe there is a message and it is not the message that 7.5 billion people on this planet are taking from it. It is a message squarely directed at a tiny nation called Klal Yisroel. Anybody with brains understands that this has the potential to be a momentous occasion, hopefully an eis ratzon if we are zoche with our tefillos, or Chas veshalom.... Bottom line is we are in a stupor and we had better wake up. March 17, 2020, 10:55:19 PM |

so many small weddings going on and i literally cry by each video. its less than what they did in the old shtetl. barely minyan for bentching. and there is nothing we can do about it. many couples are taking it in stride. but some looked like they were on the verge of cryingThis is worth crying over?! Bh they are getting married! Hopefully everyone will stay healthy. With the zchus of not having blood on their hands, by not perpetuating the spread of the virus, they can go and build a bayis neman. This conversation is reckless IMHO. Especially in a time like this. You have your personal grievances with institutions or shuls? Go ahead and take it up with them. Not on a public forum like this please.

Re: This is getting serious... a somber thread about COVID-19
Some of these comments are making me sick. Can we at the very least agree to respectfully disagree especially at a time like this? Let's stop the blame game and try to do our best, both individually and as a klal. Bashing rabbanim will not bring us much needed zechusim.

Re: Corona virus and your shull
@chevron, I respect the challenge you are facing. I dont have the answers, definitely not the ones you want to hear. Going on a public forum, speaking negatively about anyone, let alone those whose lives are dedicated to Hashem, His torah and His people will not bring about any remedy or change. If that's your goal, you're getting nowhere close to it. To the contrary, think of Miriam merely "questioning" Moshe. Think of Korach and his qualms with Moshe, which BTW were unfortunately accepted by the public. Look throughout history at those that rejected and even questioned gedolei yisroel and the destruction it brought us. Which side of those sentiments would we have taken? Can we say we would have always, with our limited vision, taken the correct side? I humbly propose we yield to the rabbanim. Again, let me reiterate, your vices and questions are difficult ones. However, rather than accomplish nothing constructive venting in this forum I would suggest having a conversation with your trusted rabbinic/hashkafic authority. Nothing but love my man! מי כעמך ישראל - Post your stories here
Lets talk about all the absolutely wonderful things that are being done in Klal Yisroel right now. From the hundreds of volunteers to fill in for understaffed tomchei shabboses, to the $100k raised in 4 days to help a grocery store support families for pesach by customers adding just a little extra to their bill to help out another family. From TorahAnytime being slow due to the overwhelming amount of shiurim being listened to online, to the top jewish entertainers all making time to brighten our kids day. From our educators working hard to provide our kids with an education under incredibly trying circumstances, to a WhatsApp group that is finishing Tehillim multiple times daily as people continuously take time out of their day to daven for others. From Dan and others for putting together an incredible starting pesach list, to everyone here who continually posts when something that people might need is in stock. I will say it again מי כעמך ישראל and thank you Hashem for the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful nation. Please share your stories here! March 30, 2020, 01:19:09 AM |

All the teachers who are continuing to teach remotely by zoom or through whatsapp messages for those who don't have computers/enough computers in the home for the b'h number of kids in the family. I know of an entire school of teachers who are teaching despite still waiting for their monthly paychecks for February. School pays at the beginning of the month for the prior month and they have not gotten their checks despite teaching in classes until the Friday after Purim. Still these Moros are giving daily lessons with smiles on their faces for all of the children in the school. April 03, 2020, 11:22:48 AM |

Re: Is your Shul Secretly Open Right Now?
I know the Rov of my shul and a few of other shuls as well, are keeping the shuls to themselves. They have a private shul, mikvah, and Sifrei Torah for them and their children. Technically speaking, there is nothing wrong or risky about having a minyan if done properly. The fear is that it won't be done properly. Two issues with this. 1) Even if this minyan is being done properly, what happens when people see this and decide they can do it, too, without taking all the precautions? 2) What about Kavod HaTorah? How many people will now lose respect for this Rov and all that he stands for because they can't follow their own psak and lead by example? April 12, 2020, 03:50:00 PM |

Re: PSA
הכל בידי שמים חוץ מיראת שמים More relevant, and I haven’t seen mentioned on DDF, is הכל בידי שמים חוץ מצנים ופחים. I take this to mean that no matter how pious one is (Mikvah, Minyan, etc), if they don’t take the necessary precautions they could still get sick. April 13, 2020, 01:04:40 PM |

Re: Delta to tlv opening May 8
Also in regards to the charter that everyone is discussing, I believe that the harshest criticism should be directed at El Al. (I can't speak for the seminaries because I honestly have no idea what they were charged - but El Al definitely charged a fortune) They went ahead and consolidated flights (to 50%) for the week after Purim, causing the massive shortage of inventory and blocked all inventory for the remaining flights. Which caused massive panic. And suddenly (I don't even think it was 48 hours from when they canceled the flights until they rescheduled as charters) they were chartering their planes for those exact dates for double the price and only one direction! El Al was very aware about the massive demand westbound, but were being stingy because they knew they would be returning mostly empty. But with the charters, they were charging enough for them to cover the cost to fly both directions nearly twice! El Al has turned their back on literally everyone during this crisis. From travel agents to passengers to all their employees... Ignoring the DOT's instruction to refund all canceled flights by claiming that they're closed and all their offices are closed... But apparently they're only closed when it comes to giving money and paying employees, because when it comes to rescue flights or cargo they seem to be open as ever making loads of money! Re: Corona virus and your shul
If things are as @hvaces42 describes, can you really blame people that see that for being angry?Oy. I don't have time to break this down the way it should be, but 1) bringing up the black plague and trying to connect to Corona? I expect better from you. 2) he is one person in one neighborhood. The overwhelming majority of Orthodox communities - in the tri state area and across the country - were and are ahead of government regulations. 3) the average person isn't seeing what @hvaces42 is. 4) people are breaking the rules in larger numbers and in more flagrant ways than Orthodox Jews, but for many reasons only we are known about. We get a failing grade, but all the churches that remained open are fine? It's not about "but officer, he was speeding. It's not an excuse. We should see *why* the officer keeps pulling me over and consistently ignores everyone else. Most egregious is saying that it's Jews' fault. "we need to be better" if one thing. But "maybe blaming Jews for the plague isn't just anti semitism" is quite another. When the virus attacked queens, no one blamed the locals. Same for the Bronx or any other place in NYC. Not because they were practicing social distancing better than us, they weren't. Try figure out why. I have no issue with pointing out people who are breaking the rules. They should be shamed, fined, whatever it takes. But for that to turn in to sweeping generalizations? No. (why does it feel like I've written the same piece 1800 times on this forum?)
