I just got a new laptop and when I use excel it keeps asking me to buy a license. I’ve used it in my old one without this hock. Any ideas?
Most computers don't come with an Office license unless you paid for it..

So you dont have to be busy with putting in the RAM afterwards since RAM is kind of complicated to figure out which ones are compatible with each other.

Oh yah, I get a raise in my salary once I reach 1k likes. Keep them coming.

 +1 indeed. Not +2 ;)

So it seems like on ios just gv and hangouts are enough. I can call and text. It shows up on caller id as my google voice number
So it seems your ready for the next step, which allows you to use your american phone number you had back in the states on your google voice account? (or unless you don't have a US number active while in israel?)

I try to always bring my T-mobile phone, as I would need it for verification codes or random stuff. A spare phone should I need, and my regular american number so I would verify it on GV and have that number as my outbound caller ID. And would ring when someone called me on it, meaning it would ring on my GV phone number as I set up call forwarding to ring on my Google voice number allowing me to receive all my calls.
With T-mobile I had no problems setting up call forwarding while in IL and with sprint I would have CS set it up for me should I have forgotten to set it up before hand.

Any more Q feel free to ask. And ping my name should you want to direct the Q to me.

Also being that you have a iphone some details might not work the exact same. But I would assume all would or should.
Good night folks. Or good morning for those in the holy land.

Re: Computer Troubleshooting/Help Master Thread
The position is 1 (2 for if there are two number strings in the filename and you want to change the 2nd.)

And the difference is -5353 (since you wanna subtract 5353 from each number.) And handle negative numbers should be checked.

Seems like I got it - thanks!

Re: Excel Help and Problems
Forgot to mention, the XYZ # is in middle of a variable length and variable position of a string. The only absolute to work with is the XYZ #. Have it working now with a FIND XYZ & # from cell reference.

Wouldn't REGEXEXTRACT do it? (I didn't really chap the exact use...maybe it is too late in the day...)
I'm trying to cut off everything after the XYZ # (part of a larger data parsing project).

I'm not so familiar with REGEXEXTRACT. Will take a look.

ETA: REGEXEXTRACT worked perfectly. Thanks

This looks like a good deal. It is an HP i7 3.4 ghz with 500gb hd and 16 of ram for 389. The kicker is the hd display and 1 gb of video ram.
Not a great deal for a 4 year old refurbished laptop.

Re: Best Buget phone
Looking for advice from the knowledgeable DDFers, whats the best budget android phone that can be filtered.

I was looking at the OnePlus range, maybe something like the 6 or 6T (if the upgrade is worth it).

I've heard of the Pocophone by Xiaomi, but as I spoke to TAG, there is no way of filtering Xiaomi phones without locking down half of the phone!

Any sugggestions?
Moto G6
I had the g4 with amazon offers and I feel like it fought with the filter and messed it up. Friends have the g6 without offers and it works great.

Re: Best Buget phone

What are the main practical differences between a budget phone and a flagship phone?

Other than cost, obviously. And not regarding technical (processor, etc.) differences, but practical differences for the user.

Camera, NFC (used for mobile wallets), possibly battery life, speed of updates.

side question

what is the best phone to have for family use- i.e. my son can take it with him to call us to pick him up-
something that has minutes that dent expire after a month and doesn't need to be reactivated every month

Are you looking for a phone or a plan?
If your looking for a plan look into Tello, freedom pop or someone mentioned in a diff thread beast mobile

Can someone please help me with SUMIF,

If cell A1 has any text, subtract cell A2 from A3,

I tried =SUMIF(K24:K24,"<>",Q24-V24) but keep on getting an error.
You don't need SUMIF for this. Try:

This will keep the cell blank if A1 is blank. If you want something else you can change the "" at the end.

Or use IFERROR(A3-A2,""). Saves 2 characters ;D.

A very great deal or rather a no-deal... Almost never such deals (don't forget that an i5 with 16 GB RAM is not the typical combination, and an i7 with 16 GB RAM for sub $500 is sweet dreams...)
If I hadn't found a deal a year ago or two ago, for a Lenovo PC with those specs (well 2 DP vs 2 HDMI) I would tell him to keep dreaming.

Re: Laptop Deals Master Thread

I am looking for a basic 13"/14" lightweight laptop with which I can travel easily (it being in a carryon).
Graphics are not important to me.

Should I wait for Black Friday or is this one good?
$129: Lenovo 14" HD Laptop-64GB SSD,$GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro - After $170 off

If your budget is $150 then go for this, otherwise get a laptop that will cost around $300-$500 depending on deals and specs.
Most smartphones these days are more powerful then this.
Also 64gb hard drive is very small, most people call 256 a minimum.

Re: Laptop Deals Master Thread
What do I need to look for in a laptop if I keep TONS of webpages open on a regular basis?  I know it is not good, but it is what it is.

I use the computer for reading webpages and youtube items, downloading information (but not movies), word processing, and storing everything.
What specs would be recommended for me?

for a basic laptop these days, 8th gen (higher is good but harder to find) i5, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD, FHD screen.
Usually most people want more storage, but stick to an SSD since it makes a huge difference. this is a laptop with the specs i would start off with, dont need 10th gen i5, 8th or 9th is pretty good. its not a great price, you can find better.

Re: Internet Filters
Any recommendations and how does it work?
Depends on which device
Apple: Gentech paid version and choose the websites you need on
Android: Netspark paid version and choose the websites you need on
a whitelist filter takes some time to install because you need to put in each site separate
if you need it on a computer the best is Techloq
This is my personal opnion based on the feedback I heard

I am trying to decide which filter to use, any help would be appreciated.
Do some filters have more categories that you can decide on, more then other filters?
Do I have to send in a form to change my preferences, or I can simply toggle on and off which categories I want, and turn it on and off as needed like k9? Do all filters make my internet connection go through their servers? Which ones slow down your internet the least?
You could take your answer from the above answer or say which type of device? And we could try to help!
BTW, I'm part of TAG.
I Vouch for @ziv716 I know who he is and what he does in TAG great TECH EXPERT

Re: Computer monitor/screen master thread HDMI can include video and audio, so if you're not using it, you'll need VGA to power the video and 3.5mm aux for the audio.

Re: Computer monitor/screen master thread Any 3.5mm aux wire should work. That one looks good
February 27, 2020, 02:31:28 PM
Re: Computer monitor/screen master thread
Maybe you need to change the source on the screen.

Also, make sure that this is the only video connector connected both on the screen and on the PC.
Took out all the connectors, from the VGA to all sound wires/AUX from the desktop, but had no luck.
Tried HDMI output 1 and then output 2, neither of those outputs worked, tried both sources.
tried with two different HDMI cables, one that the screen came with and then some loose HDMI lying around, thinking it might be the cable.

Had an old HDMI/DVI Cable from when i bought the Nintendo console, so gave it a shot and the screen works as well as the sound, but the sound is quite choppy and not so sharp.
To be yotzeh having sound coming out of the speaker it works and does not go super loud, so i guess for now i can keep it until i find some alternative for a speaker, too bad i bought this and i'm gonna use another output for the sound.
Lets hope this screen proves to be a solid one then i'll be ok for taking this vs a well know screen like a dell or some other big company!
Since I'm not in the tech business i don't know the first thing, assuming YT knows whats good and whats not.
So far seems like a decent screen and factoring the 3-4k of reviews on this monitor i think i'll keep this.

My old monitor had the speaker attachment which was a speaker in itself ,vs a built in speaker. (I referred to it as a built in speaker vs a separate speaker as it was attached to the monitor).

Connected for now both and can easily swap between both, will see which family members like better.

Thanks @Yisroel Tech & @etech0 For all your guys help!

Eta; See attached picture, i mistakenly put it in the wrong HDMI socket.

Now i see where @Yisroel Tech was aiming when he mentioned;
(does the computer have HDMI output?)
I mixed the two HDMI ports, rather i didn't know there was two ports, only saw one on the very top, and then a VGA port, DVI and that's about it.
Then saw a very small hole in between the two ports as i'll highlight in the picture and long behold it was the HDMI port.

Was thinking to maybe go with another Dell computer that has a 20inch width and can attach a normal speaker to it like i had, heres the one i had previously....

Dell AS501 Sound Bar Speaker for Ultrasharp LCD Monitors ($24.99)

Any ideas that would work with this bar or another dell or screen with a normal speaker vs a built in cheap speaker, its good i bought this, you live and learn.

And here's a picture of my Computer desk with how much space i'm working with, don't want to place speakers anywhere else on my computer desk, as the place is cluttered as is, no more room for added clutter.

And here's a picture of the 2 HDMI ports, one on top is not the correct spot, (highlighted in red) maybe to mirror a screen?  On the bottom was the correct spot, (highlighted in yellow)

Re: Need help finding a cellphone plan? Post here! US edition (Master thread)
As others mentioned, Visible. First month is $25, then you join a "party"/family plan and it stays $25 for unlimited. search on reddit for people with slots on their visible accounts. each accnt remains separate so no sharing billing

Visible is owned by verizon but uses only their LTE. They used to have a speed cap, it's been removed (long before corona). They have unlimited hotspot too.   I used them, on their ZTE r2 branded phone, and its was acceptable. Much better if you BYOD. You get a $100 mastercard GC if you BYOD, port, and keep for two months. (yes, you can do this, cancel and make a $50 profit).

Give em a try
I've been on visible since shortly after that post. Been great.

Re: Computer monitor/screen master thread
Of course not!

It's low resolution (720p aka HD) even for a TV (which is quite a distance from the viewer so you don't need that  good of a resolution.) For any size computer monitor you should look for nothing less than 1080p (aka FHD), and for such a big-size monitor you should even strive for 1440p or 4K.
Great info, thanks! You may have just saved me $100 :)

May 17, 2020, 08:08:34 PM
Re: Computer monitor/screen master thread
You'd regret it (unless you usually zoom your 22" monitors a lot...)

The reason is simple. Your 22" monitors are probably also 1080p, so you wouldn't have gained any real screen-real-estate you'd just have the same things as one of the 22" monitors on a bigger place.
Which is why dpi would be a much better measure.
