Re: Violent protests erupt across the country
Now I wanted to say something about the fact that we have lived over these last two or three summers with agony and we have seen our cities going up in flames. And I would be the first to say that I am still committed to militant, powerful, massive, non≠-violence as the most potent weapon in grappling with the problem from a direct action point of view. I'm absolutely convinced that a riot merely intensifies the fears of the white community while relieving the guilt. And I feel that we must always work with an effective, powerful weapon and method that brings about tangible results. But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the negro poor has worsened over the last twelve or fifteen years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity.
This has nothing to do with race, police brutality or anything. These people out there rioting are animals. If you do not understand that, then you are part of the problem.  There's a way humans deal with these things, they protest peacefully, use the legal system etc. These people are looting target and apple stores because they are animals.

Re: Violent protests erupt across the country
I find it funny that every state claims the looters came from out of state

The Canadian border is closed so where are they coming from?
Probably California and Washington were all the wackos hang out

Re: Dating Stories Dropping the girl off at the end of the date, I had a long drive home and didn't want to go off-route to find a bathroom (I'm an expert at easily getting lost).

I smiled and said, "Thank you very much, I had a really good time! Um, is it OK if I use your bathroom?"

Her: You can use the driveway if you want.

Me: Are you serious?

Her: Sure, you don't have to park on the street, you can pull into the driveway!

Re: Show support for our law enforcement officers
Well if it's meant to be equivalent to the BLM one it should be done in front of Gracie Mansion.
that wouldnt be equivalent bc its not true that Trump doesnt care about blacks...(pandora's box---open)

Oh look, it's Cuyahoga 2.0:
Seems fitting that it's included in the stimulus bill. They're devaluing your NP list along with the currency...

Anyone know what the new expiration date is? I heard they extended the certs.
12/31. No reason it can't be used for London. But not sure why anyone would want to pay $300 in taxes to do that.

Re: Retirement Funds

Im a big 401(k) er.

Have some municipal bonds

Why would you own municipal bonds in a tax advantaged account? They sell for a premium because the interest is tax free and you don't realize that benefit in a tax advantaged account. You would be much better off with taxable bonds.

Re: Retirement Funds
The simple metric I use, is if one is under <25% ETR then I would definitely suggest RIRA and over >30% ETR go with TIRA.
Why do you use a metric based on your effective tax rate, as opposed to your top tax bracket?
The amount you'd save is from your top tax bracket.

Re: Getting checked baggage on overnight stop
Which option is 100% safe that I will be able to get my checked luggage in LHR ?

Option (1
6 hr 20 min layover

Option 2)
19 hr 25 min overnight layover

Well clearly option 1, as I donít know of any airport pair in the world that does surface transfers of luggage. Thereís also no direct flight between LHR-RIX so even if you missed the connecting flight they couldnít automatically reroute you without an airport change.

Re: Retirement Funds
All of that being said, I don't think a professional shouldn't come prepared with "solutions" to a first meeting, before probing for facts and feelings.

I don't think a professional shouldn't avoid double negatives that confuse clients

Re: Retirement Funds
Do you go to one surgeon for advice and another to do the surgery?
(First of all, maybe - e.g. if the advisor is a retired surgeon.)

Secondly, that's not a good analogy; actually making an investment (usually) isn't rocket science and any layperson can do it themselves.

Re: Free Amazon returns is not Free  Any item that says free returns, when returning I select inaccurate website description, which gives you all the options for free.
I don't think that this is unethical, for them writing "free returns" and then charging, is in my opinion an inaccurate description.

If I was you I would open one with either Vanguard, Schwab, or Fidelity (personally I like Schwab the best) and drop it into an S&p 500 ETF and then forget about it

Re: Inflation In The Frum Community I don't call it inflation.  I call it irrational spending that will crush some many people's lives. Using EIDL to purchase property,  they are essentially buying property 100% with borrowed funds. Once they start making the payments...

This extra money that should be looked at as a blessing will unfortunately be a curse for many.

Re: What is going on with these police officers?
So every time someone in BP or Willy starts to talk back to a cop or doesn't follow instructions immediately, he should be shot? Come on.
I have yet to see a video of a cop shouting at a Jew in BP or Willi to drop their knife/gun or to put their hands up and they don't comply.

I will assume even with life insurance there is still campaigns going on, cuz why not cash in on the tragedy
I'd assume that most people would prefer not to be publicly campaigned for as nebachs if they don't absolutely need it. In my mind public campaigns are a last resort when a fanily has no choice but to sacrifice their dignity to put food on the table. I could be wrong though.

Re: FIRE movement & Financial Minimalism Frum Idea to Retire Early (FIRE): having enough money to retire before your children turn 65

Re: FIRE movement & Financial Minimalism Why would anyone want to retire early (or at all)? Unless you are planning on signing up to Kollel (or some other "second career" in an area that you have a passion for), retiring so that you can sit around and do nothing while you wait to die sounds like torture.

Re: Retirement Funds

I just started a IRA account and will start a 401K as well, as of now Iím not in the ďinvestingĒ business and Iím not interested in being busy with it.

Where should I invest the money for it to sit till retirement?
Iím not interested in taking big risks, and Iím in my low 30s (if it matters)

Thank Much
the simplest answer? SPY. more nuanced answer you need to do a little researchÖ

I think a target date fund is simplest, best option for you.

Re: How did the Meron tragedy unfold?
could there be optimized for in/out flow, at the expense of crowding and 'events'?
(I'm thinking a variation of what happens 3 tammuz at the ohel)?
That's how it works inside the Tziyon in Miron. You push your way in, then slowly float towards the exit without much say in the matter.
