Authorized users I have the Amex blue card and was thinking about adding on friends who don't have cards as authorized users so they can rent cars for Purim, I was just wondering if cancelling the cards after about a month or two will have any effect on my credit score.

Internet Filters Internet Filters

I am surprised that there isn't already a topic on this forum about this, but it my opinion there shouldnt be a home in this country Jewish or otherwise that should have unfiltered internet in their house.  The accessibility of pornography and all other forms of trash that represent the lowest forms of human society is only a mouse click away and nobody should have to face such a test.

Below I will include list of the internet filters that I am familiar with: (if possible I can try to keep this list up-to-date if others add comments for ones that I missed)

1.  K9WebProtection - - Best FREE internet filter that I know of which is very customizable and easy to install, and pretty hard to bypass.

2.  OpenDNS - - Another FREE filter that works based on DNS filtering, however this filter is extremely easy to bypass, it is basically just doing the reverse of the installation.  In my opinion it is great as a second layer of protection but should not be relied upon as a first line of defense.

3.  Covenant Eyes - - A very popular internet monitoring tool which can either include just accountability reports which basically send a summary of all questionable websites visited to a third party but doesnt actually block anything, or also can provide actual website filtering as well.  There is a charge for this service however it varies because many places have "group" discounts with Covenant Eyes and therefor you can get a better annual rate.  (As a side note I had Covenant Eyes on my computer and it wreaked havoc, because it is often incompatible with many other programs.  It is possible that they have gotten better since I last tried it, but the program is designed to act like any other form of malware which embeds itself in the system to make sure it is difficult to bypass, but that could cause other unwanted issues.)

4.  Netnanny - -My personal favorite internet filter which provides a ton of customizable features, my favorite of which being that you can have different account logins within the same computer so that each one can have its own customized internet filtering settings.  Also Netnanny allows remote access so that if you install it on your computer and a friend has the password, and a site that is OK gets blocked for some reason, you can send a request to them to unblock it and they can do that remotely.  Netnanny also gives the ability to send emails whenever an attempt to go to a blocked site is made, to prevent someone from constantly "trying to test the limits" to find something that is not blocked.  Netnanny does charge a $39.99 per year for one computer license or $59.98 for 3 computers, which in my opinion is a VERY reasonable price to pay to protect yourself and your family from the dangers of the internet (This is the filter that I personally use on my computer)

I am sure that there are many other very good filters out there, but these are the ones that I have firsthand knowledge of, please feel free to post comments below and I can try to update this list.

Feel free to post your thoughts!

US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread I personally love Donald Trumps no nonsense attitude and toughness. I would definitely want to see him become the president as he has so much business knowledge and i think he has the know how to really improve our economy. Although it is hard to know how he would do with other issues that don't pertain to the financial aspect of running the country. What are your feelings?

Master List: Israeli companies and sites that decline US cards Hello all!
Many of us live, study, or travel to Israel and prefer using US credit cards.
I haven't seen a "master list" anywhere that outlines which stores, sites, government agencies/utilities, or companies decline US cards, so I thought it might be nice to start one.

I've only transitioned my spend to a US card this past week, so there are still plenty of unknowns.
Please reply to the thread and I'll update accordingly!

Here are my experiences thus far:

Declined US card
-Cellcom (attempted with CSR)
-BigDeal (Groupon copycat) (attempted with CSR)
-Club Teva website (if you happen to be a Teva employee  :))) (attempted with CSR)

-Mika gas stations (tried using at the pump, it let me put in about 30 shekels worth of gas and stopped -- was in a rush, didn't try going inside to pay, which sometimes works)
-My son's afternoon daycare provider.  They said I'll only know for sure when they attempt to charge next month's payment, will update.

-Cellarix (Israeli social payment app/site).  It let me send money, but Chase categorized it as a cash advance (attempted with CSR)

a "happy ending" story of credit-repair goodwill request from barclaycard... just thought i'd share this as it might help someone out there.

i sent a letter to barclay card US requesting a goodwill adjustment to my credit report and they took care of it and my score bounced back!

the amounts that were reported were very minor but the 60 days late really made it ugly causing a heavy hit to my score. it never hurts to try and request a goodwill adjustment.

i emailed with the attached credit report to:,

RE: Hawaiian Airline Barclay Card Credit Card: ****

To whom it may concern,

I am in the process of possibly buying a new home in the near future and one the negative factors on my credit report is a 30 day and 60-day  late payment from Barclay Card US. (Aug and Sept 2016)

I do understand the integrity of the credit reporting system and I am aware that you are legally required to report Fair and Accurate information.

The above notwithstanding, I am requesting that, as a courtesy, and given my long and very exemplary history with both BarclayCard US and many other credit institutions, you would consider a one time removal of these items from my generally excellent credit history.

Please see below the multiple reasons why I think this would not compromise the accuracy of my credit-worthiness and I am confident you will agree that in this case it is reasonable request.

1. The amount of the unpaid funds was very minor -- $30-$45 -- and actually the result of an annual fee that must have escaped my notice. Clearly this late payment was not a result of lack of funds but just an oversight.
2. I now notice that the annual fee had actually increased from the years prior from $79. I am not sure how this is even ok seeing that I was not given notice.
3. This account was transferred from Bank of America where I originally opened it and there may have been settings in place to prevent late-payments that were not transferred over to Barclay Card.
4. I had thought that I had the minimum payment on auto-pay and there may have been a glitch in the system where this set-up was not complete.

I am not asking for a deletion of an entire tradeline or removal of multiple late-payments or serious deliqencies. Just a simple adjustment to my report so that my score should not drop so heavily for the next 7 years.

I have been a loyal Barclay Card customer for many years and hope you will consider my request favorable given my stellar reputation with your company.

Please see attached the credit reports with the items in question highlited in yellow and orange..

About a month later I received a letter from BarclayCard which you can read in the attachment. very helpful and the score jumped back up with a month or two. (I didn't check exactly)

United's 777-300ER's HORRENDOUS economy seats! I fly to TLV fairly often, generally out of EWR.  I once was on the new 777-300ER, which replaced the 777-200 on that run.  It is an AWFUL aircraft, giving you an awful flight, if you happen to fly economy.  If you're in business it may be better, but for the regular folk, forget it!  The 777-200 seat width was 18.3", the 300ER is 17".  The recline used to be 5", now it's 3".  So they took 1.3" out of the 9 seats, that's 11.7".  They added a 17" seat, and so had to take 5.3" out of the aisles.  So each aisle is now 2.7" narrower.  If you like to walk in the aisle or bring a carry-on on board, don't think about wheeling it down that aisle!  Can the collective might of Dans Deals do something about this?   Put pressure on them not to do this???   They will be changing the afternoon flight in the next 4 months or so, and those flights are just terrible.  The seats are NOT comfortable at all, and I'm looking for an alternative to United, but am not sure what there is.  Any thoughts????

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others

Name me 10 guys who have made it in e-commerce, non PL, without owing the whole world money.

I did tax returns for Amazon guys. $10MM in sales with 1% margins is considered good.
Good for you. Maybe I'm naïve, but I've seen enough.

Even with 5% margins, and I'm referring to NI margins, (Chareidim just don't seem to get the difference between Gross Margin and Net Income), and 25% Inventory stocking, and an investor for 10%, you're -19.5% cash flow before you open shop.

But people live in LaLa land.
Duh. There are dozens of people that I know making massive profits in PL. Some just make a living, some make millions.
So eccomerce is more alive then ever.

it's fine to say "stay away from retail arbitrage".
Or even better, generally don't sell retail with not enough gross margins to cover basic overhead or even direct costs.. but only morons do that anyway... I agree there are way too many morons with asinine business plans. It frustrates me to no end..

But I would not steer people away from eccom. It is an industry that litterally finances and supports huge segments of our community. It has a very low bar for entry, doesn't require formal training, and can scale up rapidly. Many succeed.

Re: Elal airlines
Good question
- On Oneworld you might get objection from BA and Cathay.
- On Skyteam, I don't see anyone who would object besides perhaps DL and AF.

I cant see an airline like DL block for one route that they have on one flight a day from the hottest market in the US.

Hello? Thank you! Can i buy airline GC that has resale value to get the $250 credit? I can get do this twice in a year? Those purchase count towards $4K spend req? If this works, I will upgrade for the $450 AF.
I would assume it's the same as the Platinum whatever worked for that and the gold card work for this.

Dimeththyltryptamine (DMT) & Halacha I'm assuming most of you don't know too much about Dimeththyltryptamine, better known as DMT, but I'm hoping their are some people who are familiar and might be able to add their opinions on the matter.
To cut straight to the point, I was considering going on a vacation to Australia where they have licensed regulated clinics where one can have a DMT experience.
Is their ANY reason to think that this can possibly be problematic according to halacha?
From what I understand their are tribes that use DMT in their rituals but I don't see why that would make it assur being that this would not involve any religious ritual and would be conducted in a private clinic, so if certain religious groups used alcohol I find it hard to believe that it would render alcohol assur to use...
Anyone hear anything specific in regards to this subject?

(P.s. The DMT expierance is a purely spiritual one, and in today's day and age with almost complete hester panim, that even a "Dybbuk" was known to be a normal occurrence is no longer happening, it is as if hashem specifically does not want any supernatural phenomenon to be occurring as to amplify the hastaras panim of our generation, so for me to expierance an out of body feeling is something I am fascinated by and would love to do if it was not halachicaly problematic)

Shop Local!! (When it's safe to do so) Pasted from here:

Ordering Amazon? Shop Local!

With Coronavirus rampant in our country, many of us are turning to online retailers like Amazon for our shopping needs. Someone even forwarded me a list of links to Amazon products that one can easily purchase if they are making Pesach for the first time, as many of us are being forced to do this year. This list contains hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise, from mixers, hot water urns, silverware, pots, cooking equipment, and just about anything else one may need for Pesach preparations.

While resorting to making huge purchases from Amazon may be smart “social distancing” practice, it can have a devastating impact on our local economy at a time when many businesses are suffering terribly. Sending such huge amounts of money to huge corporations will suck the business out of local stores, and will force many Lakewood stores to Ch’v have to close their doors, leaving many jobless.

No, I am not advocating for anyone to put themselves and their families in danger by venturing out needlessly to shop. However, many local stores have made ample arrangements for safe shopping that is no more dangerous than ordering online. Many storeowners have begun to offer free delivery, and most offer curbside pickup. Almost all stores, especially those that have been hit by this financial downturn, are willing to do almost anything the customer wants in order to keep their business afloat.

So, before you load up a heavy online shopping cart and send desperately needed local money out, pick up the phone and call your local storeowner. You may be able to safely get what you need while keeping your brother afloat.

(Note: this author of this does not own a local business and will not benefit personally from this message.)

Somebody murdering someone in cold blood deserves a bit more I think.

חסורי מחסרא והכי קתני

(not saying this is my opinion. as I said above this needs to go through the legal system. But until then the officer should be assigned to the most menial desk duties at most, or put in a jail cell pending trial.

It can literally be anything, for example checking out at the pharmacy in the grocery store when the regular lines are long, microwave rice from TJ's (blew my mind first time having it, how easy it was), open a can of corn, put salt pepper and cheese on top, microwave or oven it (super easy lunch), etc...

You can also include items you can't live without.

If you have shipping worldwide enabled, they can select their method of shipment and see the price. You can suggest them to do so.

Re: Lakewood covid cases This reminds me of the following joke:

A guy is circling around the block a few minutes before shabbos desperately trying to find a parking spot. He starts davening to find a spot. Nothing. He starts crying out to Hashem promising to be a better person and to give more tzedakah. Right as he's about to finish his plea, the car right in front of him pulls out. So he says, "never mind! I found a spot!"

We have doctors telling us what to do to save lives. But rather than heeding their warnings, we're doing whatever we want, and then say, "there's no way to stop the gezeria. There simply nothing we can do."

Hashem is sending a plague, for reasons none of us can begin to comprehend. He also sent us doctors and scientists to tell us how we can mitigate it. It would behoove us to listen to both messages.

NYC Metro Jews And COVID I'm not politically correct and will say that blacks kill more than anyone else, and black on black crime is worse than anything else the media talks about. But the same idea applies for COVID in our own community. All of a sudden everyone is so PC that we can't even use zipcode based stats to curtail COVID outbreaks because some PC snowflakes think it's targeting Jews. I'll volunteer to be the racist anti-semite providing facts you can prove yourself while you go ahead and whitewash this in your <redacted by mods> whatsapp groups.

Jews, specifically religious Jews in the NYC-metro area, are absolutely freaking terrible at doing anything to prevent the spread of COVID. Nothing you say will convince me otherwise.

Re: War in Israel

The use of force by Israel must be “proportionate” in response to rockets fired by the Hamas terror group following several nights of violence in Jerusalem, a French minister says.

“Quite clearly, we call for a proportionate use of force by the Israeli authorities,” deputy foreign minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne tells French lawmakers.

For possibly the first time in my life, I agree with the French. We should fire the exact same amount of rockets indiscriminately into their most populated areas. We should also send incendiary balloons floating over the border.
