Re: Stimulus Checks
But you had said the $2k bill was going to pass immediately. So now you're saying that there's a chance they'll have to make a new bill that won't be as lucrative for large families? What a shame that nothing is set in stone.
The Dems are not pro large families. For that matter they are ambivalent on families altogether.

Well said.
@cgr certainly does incredible work, but just the hosting bills alone to keep the lights on here cost 5 figures, and that's nothing compared to diaper costs for 5 newborns and toddlers between me and @jj1000 ;)

The DD affiliate link for PPP loans can be found here and as always, we deeply appreciate your support: https://www.dansdeals.com/more/coronavirus/pre-applications-ppp-funding-round-2-now-accepted/
Thanks @Dan
Believe me, I totally understand, and I think that one of the things that makes DDF so wonderful is that there aren't a million affiliate links floating around with everyone peddling their wares...

Welcome to the DDF Politics Board Per popular vote, this is the new home for political discussion on DDF!

Posts here do not count towards earning highly lucrative DDF elite status.

DDF rules still apply, so please read them: https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=31.0

Let's try to keep things civil  :)

Re: When he comes back healthy, under which username will he appear??!!
I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts and prayers here on DDF and via WA. They are all greatly appreciated.

Feeling better now. On 11/29 DW took me to the emergency room. They did a routine emergency procedure. Since then it was been a month long roller-coaster ride. An infection was the culprit for the roller-coaster ride. With that under control they can now focus on the original problem.

Hope to be back soon!

Take care of yourself! We'll keep praying for you.

So you agree the situation now is somewhat dangerous?
yup. Unfortunately, Pelosi and her ilk care more about gaining political points than about your concerns. (this is not meant to refer to either side of the aisle)

There is definitely a higher likelihood of competing interests trying to take advantage of the chaos.

Re: Welcome to the DDF Politics Board
If I can, I'd like to put forth a request to my fellow, beloved DDFers. (Chill, I'm not about to ask you for your SS numbers...)

When the Covid board opened, some (myself included) were quick to start a new string of threads for subjects that were already being served in the JS board, and it made things unnecessarily confusing. For example, I don't think there is any need for a thread dedicated to "Random/interesting/funny pictures that are Covid related" - you can just post them in the regular thread and save a lot of confusion and reposting. By the same token, in hindsight there was no need for a "RIP/BDE thread - Covid edition", which I actually created. It only led to redundant posting, and a lot of possibly-insensitive arguments about the reason certain people died.

That being said, I'm putting out a request that we don't repeat the mistakes here, and we don't, for the sake of unnecessary bureaucracy (or OCD), start a new string of threads that are "politics related." It would be much simpler for us to keep posting the random/interesting/funny pictures in the standard JS thread, alongside all the other random/interesting/funny pictures.

Thanks for listening[/rant]
-1 I am very happy that there is a separate COVID related thread for many of those.

Re: Welcome to the DDF Politics Board
Let the record reflect that I objected to the creation of this board.

I am bound by the majority vote and I will abide by all forum rules to the best of my ability. However, if the conversation here devolves into a fetid cesspool of unvarnished linguistic manure, let the record show that I shall hold no blame for it.
Devolve? it came from JS!

Re: Welcome to the DDF Politics Board
Interesting. Can you explain your reasoning? Why can't we just have one thread for funny pictures?

Also, does your reasoning apply to politics?
Just to keep it separate. The point is to keep a thread of funny pictures and for it not to be a bunch of opinionated garbage that its only interest is for those who agree with it to laugh and those who disagree to roll their eyes.

It ABSOUTELY applies to politics, in fact it applies more so to politics than to COVID.

Re: Civil War?
Right, and usually people like the ones here say it's because all of the protesters (or inauguration attendees or whatever) are on programs and such and are not tied down to jobs. I doubt it's the truth in either case and it's bewildering. Doubly so here because there was no possibility of accomplishing anything by being there (unlike many protests for rights or peace where getting crowds can attract needed attention and draw out support)
Everyone's adapted to working remotely. :)

Good news as of yesterday - seniors ages 75+ in NJ can now get vaccinated, which for some reason I haven’t seen it publicized. Practically speaking I wonder where they can sign up to get vaccinated.

Re: Realistic vaccine date- end of 2021?
From what I know, the balance of Professional opinion and data leans towards maintaining the tested 2 does regimen.

What they could and should do IMO is test a single dose regimen.

This isn't about switching to 1 dose. It's about relying on future production for the second dose.

Re: SBA PPP and EIDL Small Business Loans (some money is forgivable) I just got my PPP loan (round 1) forgiven!

I've said this here before, but I'll say it again. I had no clue that as a self-employed person I was eligible for PPP until a few days before the deadline, when I saw @cgr post her PSAs here on DDF. I emailed her a few questions, and she graciously responded, prompting me to apply. I only applied after she pressed me to, and I am not the beneficiary of thousands of dollars of a now-forgiven loan, which really helped me get through this nightmare of a year. (Unemployment never came through for me - thank you Gov. Phil Murphy and your unreachable system that still didn't pay out after two appeals and bouncing me back and forth for months.)

I'm sure I am representing a lot of people here when I say that no amount of 'thank you's or no amount of likes could suffice to express my appreciation to @cgr for the unbelievable work she put in to help so many people here. And thank you DDF for providing a forum for such assistance.

Re: Predictions For What The Ds Will Do In Full Control Of DC?
New Iran deal
Higher corp taxes
Higher upper tier individual taxes
Uncap state tax/property deductions
Gun legislation

New Iran deal - Maybe, but doubt it's high on the list of priorities. Remember that Schumer was against the Iran deal.
Higher corp taxes - Almost certainly. They have to pay for free handouts somehow.
Higher upper tier individual taxes - This too. They hate wealth, unless it's their own.
Uncap state tax/property deductions - Don't know enough about this.
Gun legislation - They will try, as Obama did. No way the Supreme Court approves it, unless they pack the court.

At the end of the day, both parties promise big things if they win, and fail to deliver on most of them. Republicans controlled all chambers in 2016 and did basically nothing. The Democrats are much more vindictive and dangerous now, so who knows.

Re: Realistic vaccine date- end of 2021?
Maybe, but Pfizer’s expertise here (manufacturing know how and mRNA IP) goes beyond the COVID vaccine and is something they’re likely holding close to their chest for that reason.
I agree, that appears to be the case. We can buy out Pfizer though. Give shareholders 1.5x market value.

Re: The current state of COVID-19 in Israel
No deep freeze? Means they’re planning on injecting 700k more doses in 3/4 days? Impressive!

Also, this was all of the big delivery announced for today (Sunday)? Presumably it’s a part of a bigger agreement with Pfizer for a steady supply, otherwise it’s not very significant in its own right.

It is, but it's significant on its own too. It's enough for 2 doses for an additional 5% of the population.

Re: Amazon Google and Apple pull the plug on Parler
I believe that if there is any one factor that would be the biggest catalyst for a civil war, it would be the banning of Trump and Parler. A group of people storming the Capitol that ends with arrests and wide condemnation is, IMO, not a threat to our ongoing unity. Silencing people when they are frustrated, however, causes them to express their anger in other ways, and that can lead to an all-out war.

The fact that big tech can unilaterally do this and there’s nothing you or I can do about it is really troublesome. If there was a change.org petition or something I’d sign it.
