Re: Spraying license plate to avoid camera tickets NYC
It's insane how many cameras wen up in the last year, I don't drive anywhere in the Five Boroughs without waze on to tell me where the cameras are.
Nothing insane about that.

Just think about it, it makes perfect sense.

A private company runs these cash registers. All they do is come to the municipality and say, you pass the laws, we will install the cash registers (AKA cameras for speed, red light, bus lane, etc.) and we will send you a commission off the profits we make.

Then the liberal gov't (DeBlasio) can pass their agenda, and say they did it without raising taxes.

They even do better by selling it to the public as a concern for peoples safety, vision zero, etc. etc. etc. all the rest of the baloney they call it. If they thought speed is a safety concern, they would install speed bumps.

This is how we end up with unrealistic 25mph zones, where the natural traffic speed should be at least 35mph if not higher. How can Ocean Parkway main road have the same speed limit as a small side street?

Re: Booking El Al with Qantas - master thread After some trial and error the last week and actually booking some elal tickets with qf points, I can give a few pointers. 1, avoid the cape town call center at all costs, even when it seems like they can help they just end up botching things up, [huca won’t work too much, during daytime hours in the us they sometimes only have 5 reps there], the key is to speak to the Australian  call center which is open from 7am to 7pm [Australian EST], however when calling from the us even during those hours you stand a high chance of getting routed there [you can hear on their accent, or ask them straight out], the trick is to call during abovementioned open hours, select option 2 to speak to the ff team [they only operate down under], tell them you want to make a point booking and they’ll transfer you to the down under reservation call center. All the reps I spoke to in that call center found the elal seats straight away and had no problem building a reservation, taxes were $9 outbound $45 the return leg. You have to make sure they waive the booking fee since it can’t be booked online. Changes are 5k, cancellations 6k, no fee within the first 24 hours.

Availability seemed to correspond more or less to, some coach seats actually being available by the seats which didn’t show on, but on the whole it was identical, business seemed to be a bit less. On all occasions ticketing didn’t occur straight away, once I rang the next day and they issued it on the spot, sometimes I had to ring twice and was done within a few hours. be aware that when booking foe someone else things can get a bit tiresome with their security questions, [how are you related, are you authorized ? of course it’s my points !!]. So it’s actually quite simple to get the actual booking done if you follow the above procedure, you just got to stand on top of them to get it issued [make sure you have something to pass the time while you wait on hold]. Good luck.

Room report: Conrad USM 3BR Villa Introduction
I tend to plan trips around flights - price mistakes, cheap flights, value redemptions, and aspirational redemptions. My family and I just came back from 9 days in southeast Asia thanks to cheap open jaw Y tickets. We paid 113k MR points for 6 seats on transpacific UA flights

    • EWR-HKG-BKK//SIN-SFO-EWR: UA/HX Y, 20k MR pp (children were 15k MR). Got bulkhead and row behind on the UA longhauls for entire party due to 1k status
    • BKK-USM: PG Y, 5k EY + $3
    • USM-SIN: MI Y, 12.5k SQ + $30

    • BKK: Somerset Lake Point (Soi Sukhumvit 16), 3BR deluxe apartment, $173 x 4 nights incl. tax using Citi 4th free
    • USM: Conrad Koh Samui Residences, 3BR Villa, $500 x 4 nights incl. tax using Citi 4th free
    • SIN: 30 Bencoolen, Junior Suite + Deluxe Room, ($216 + $136) x 2 nights incl. tax

There have been countless of trip reports covering the places we went to, so I won't be writing a traditional trip report. Instead, I believe I'm the first to cover the Conrad USM 3BR villa, so I'll be covering that.

This was the most cash I've ever shelled out for a hotel room, but it also was the largest and nicest I've ever been to by a long shot. You could spend 5 days at the Conrad without leaving the resort. You could spend, if you wanted to, 5 days in this room without leaving and have a blast.

    How I booked the room
Hilton had a 50% off flash sale in early September that included many southeast Asian properties, such as the Conrads in MLE and USM. This deal was stackable with Citi's 4th night free benefit on the Prestige card. I noticed that the combination brought the residences down to pretty affordable levels - IIRC the 2BR residence ended up costing just under $400 including tax for the dates I was interested in, and I was seriously considering booking it at that rate. My alternative was to Airbnb a nice multibedroom apartment/villa. Unfortunately, in the several hours I spent trying to get approvals from the household powers that be, Hilton blocked the flash rate at the 2BR room type and the only available room type was the 3br at 25% more. I tried to get the hotel to reopen the 2BR at the flash rate, but did not have success. I am very happy that I decided to splurge on the extra $100 a night.

    Room Specs

I copied the below description from the room fact sheet that the hotel sent me. It is pretty accurate

Tropical motifs are combined with subtle Thai influences and contemporary design to create a unique décor featuring rich tones and natural textures. The upper level entrance opens to a private outdoor lawn terrace, ideal for relaxing with family and friends for pre-dinner cocktails while taking in panoramic sea views and exquisite Samui sunsets. This level also includes an open-plan living and dining area, contemporary bar, private kitchen and a spacious sun deck with an area for al-fresco dining.

The master suite, two junior suites, private pool and outdoor deck are located on the lower level. The master suite boasts its own living area with a 42-inch plasma TV, a stylish circular bed, private study, and a walk-in closet. The adjoining bathroom is a masterpiece on its own featuring a sunken circular tub, outdoor shower, jacuzzi and plunge pool. Two junior suites, complete with king-sized beds, open directly onto the large pool terrace.

    •    766 sqm of indoor and outdoor living space
    over two levels
    •    20 m infinity edge pool
    •    Three king-sized bedrooms
    •    Living room and private outdoor lawn
    •    Kitchen with cooking appliances,
    refrigerator, and coffee machine
    •    Fully stocked mini bar
    •    Dining table seating 6 people
    •    King-sized ensuite bathroom featuring rain
shower, oversized bath tub and spa quality
    •    Separate guest powder room
    •    Inflatable toys for pool
    •    Maximum occupancy of 9 people
    •    24 hour butler service
    •    Private Chef on request
    •    Grocery Shopping Service available on
    •    Contemporary Thai-inspireddesign
    featuring original artwork, unique artifacts,
    and locally-sourced stone
    •    Connected with cutting-edge technology
    solutions including satellite television, iPod
dock, high-speed internet access and secure
    virtual network

We arranged for RT transportation from USM in a large van with Mr. Samui, stopping off at the Chabad for lunch (2500 baht for RT transfer including stop).

When we arrived at the hotel, we were immediately greeted by the beautiful entrance, a tropical downpour, complimentary refreshments

Lyle Lewis, the general manager at the property (and former general manager of the Conrad MLE), introduced himself to us and without us even requesting, made sure that 5 kosher breakfasts were ordered for each day of our stay. We were given 4 drink vouchers for being diamond members, and after 15 long minutes, we were driven to our room. Here is a virtual tour:

    Room entrance

This is the only 3BR that the hotel has access to. The remaining 6 are either sold or on the market

    Upper floor - Outdoor

I think the oceanview backyard is bigger than my home backyard...

Outdoor dining area. We had quite a few pizza dinners, courtesy of chabad, here

How courteous, they even included a netilas yadayim sink

View of pool. Yes, this is a private pool. No need to go to the gym if you do laps here :)

    Outdoor staircase to lower level

    Upper floor - Indoor
    Beautiful entrance

    Indoor dining room

Living room, with a very tired 3-year old

Kitchen, with full size refrigerator/freezer, nespresso machine, microwave, stove, pantry room, and butler's entry (I strongly considered calling room service just to use the butler's entry)

    Lower level - outdoor

The highlight of the room - the 20m pool. This pool is double the length and wider than the standard pool at the other villa's, and is similar in size to the that of the Royal villa, albeit significantly longer

We even were provided (upon request) with a large swan. I believe they sell these by the pool for ~$100. I'm not sure who decided it would be a good idea to put a huge inflatable toy in an infinity pool of a hotel complex built on cliffs, though...

The room even came with an outdoor shower and mikvah - They know how to cater to their frum clientele!

    Lower level - indoor

Massive master bath. This bathroom is literally bigger than most hotel rooms I've been at. The shower is double-sized with two showerheads

I couldn't figure out what this thing does, but it looks cool

Master walk-in-closet. All three bedrooms have large walk in closets

Master study, for all the studying you'll be doing in this villa

Master bedroom couch 1 (of 2). You can get kicked to the couch without even leaving the bedroom... twice

    1. It wasn't my birthday, and my birthday is on my Honors account. 2. That's not how to spell my name, which is correctly spelled on my Honors account.

Hallway where we kept all of our luggage

Bedroom 2. This was the puny bedroom, with a (gasp) normal sized bathroom

    Bedroom 3

I can get used to these views

Overall, our stay in this room was fabulous and nearly flawless. We'd do it again and we wish we had spent more days at the property. I do have several complaints about the room, some minor, and others tongue in cheek:

    • Some of the furniture was showing signs of age (wood peeling, visible scratches, etc.)
    • I really don't get round beds
    • The master bedroom had a severe lack of outlets on the right side of the room
    • All TVs on the bottom floor seemed to not even have digital connections. The reception was circa-1990s grainy. The TVs may be plasma, but the quality was definitely not HD, aside from the TV in the living room (apple TV)
    • The staircase was designed in such a way that we stubbed our toes several times. It was pretty painful
    • A diving board would be great

JJ1000's 10,000 Post Featuring: A day in the life of Dan, Giveaway, & More It's hard to imagine I joined DDF over 10 years ago, of course this was after I made the first comment on DDMS 14 years ago and joining ctown forums after that.

I really can't begin to count the memories I have here on DDF, one that comes ot mind is the first major DO where @Dan @AsherO @BrooklynCPA @Mikeoracle @Smirk @MOSES @whYME @yare @Avid Reader @Chachem Balaileh @mancunian @yid @SuperFlyer all had an amazing time.

    Picture of the DO:

Back at that DO no one really knew who I was, besides that I was the guy who started the jokes thread, which I must say was one of my finest additions to DDF ;)

Since that DO I have made countless friends and received countless favors from DDF members, who truly are like family.

    Some that come to mind.

@rots5 and @moish putting me up in Israel while @moishebatchy offered my friends and I extra sheets for our stay, this was of course when we went with the first El AL glitch tickets. @SamKey For hooking up his apartment for Pesach and @Emkay for some awesome kugel, that I am pretty sure had an ok hechsher. @Chaikel for setting up a sweet Jamaican honeymoon.

@steve2 and the fights other new comers used to love to pick like @AJK when he was a total troll back in the day and @HelpMe who IMO had no idea what he fell into when he got here, and I'd like to think was very happy that he stayed.

@TimT is always there to offer some advice and is obviously the best searcher on DDF, @AsherO and @aussiebochur used to be that helpful guy until he got too busy for us ;)

Of course there was @JEWDA who it's still hard to believe isn't here anymore, going to his widows house the day after my Lchaim/vort with my then fiance will always be very special to me. The way DDF comes together when someone is in need (@SBS thread) is so heart touching it's hard to explain.

@mileagejunkie @Marco Polo @myi @YossieW @stooges44 @davidmal @Yaalili @B.D.Da'ehu @ben89 and of course @Davidthebest are my 100 HT club peeps, and have helped ignite the great deals we post every day to help tens of thousands of people save (and maybe spend) money every day. I really appreciate every deal that's sent to us and that's posted on DDF.

I couldn't possibly remember all of the countless nights I stayed up to argue with someone that was wrong about the most random things imaginable. @churnbabychurn @ExGingi @aygart @ChaimMoskowitz and of course many others can always be counted on for some good popcorn when it's needed. And @sky121 can always be counted on for a balanced and positive view on any subject.

Some dude coming along looking to sell a stinky old fish tank has drastically improved the trip reports and photography skills of DDF, hats off to you @Something Fishy.

@DH Data Recovery practically owned the tech deals on ddf at one point, and he @chevron and @txtmax4  are always good for a wine recommendation.

    Wrigley softball DO with @SrulyS @Moes Tavern @Redbull3 @MosheD @EJB @chucksterace @Bentch @grodnoking @AJK @Yitzshpitz @Dan@Yodai Dooma @ShmulieCFS @JTZ

One day I may even meet @henche though that is likely IMPOSSIBLE.

Big shoutout to @BAHayman, @Eli, and @Suave for making DDMS/DDF able to run and be what it is today thanks to them!

The first DDF shidduch was super cool @Lou Bob @MC to many more, spending shabbos together in Aruba on the Hyatt Price Mistake was awesome.

Crazy to imagine there are over 300 members with 1,000+ posts so my apologies, I'm sure I missed many memories.

I made a thread asking what I should do for my 10,000 post, and I will try to do most of them below.

    Enjoy :)
A typical day in the life of Dan:

Some names and identifying details have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals.

Dan wakes up from an amazing night's rest on his W Hotel mattress. and tell his Echo Dot which he got for free to turn on the Breville Coffee Maker plugged into his smart plug.

Get into hisNissan Altima and take the quick 2 minute drive to shachris.

After davening, @AJK texts Dan that AA has a Price Mistake to LA in F for $5, if they buys it in the airport and flies today. Naturally Dan just heads straight to the airport and boards the flight to LA. On the plane there is a dog next to him, which was strange at first until he realized it was just @meshugener flying in F as well.

In LAX Dan visits the United lounge, which he has free access to with his lifetime membership and his JMPRCC. He picks up his rental from Silver Car and heads to Tierra Sur for the Lunch DO.

    In LA @Yehoshua @Cholentfresser @Yaalili @PlatinumGuy @yehuda @D93 @etech0 @ilherman and @David Smith all meet up for the DO.

All of a sudden Barto walks in and instinctively, the group makes a beeline for the door. But before they can bail, he stops them...And says he planned the AA Price Mistake in order to get a face to face with Dan after all these years.

Barto has realized after years of being the bad guy, he just wanted to hang out with the cool kids on DDF from the olden days like @Drago @Saver2000 @Cbs @Q274 @MarkS @aussiebochur , @chuchem and @myb821, he said even though it's @noturbizniss but he left his old job and as he was leaving he reinstated all the damage he's done over the years, returning millions of miles to their rightful owners.

Everyone was very happy and had drinks all around as well as
    grilled to perfection.

After Lunch Dan drives back to the airport and rushes to catch his flight home as he realizes it is almost time for his UPS delivery. On the plane he uses the on board Wi-Fi to make some posts and read DDF (this is actually what takes up 18 hours of the day every day, besides shabbos).

He makes it home just in time to receive his UPS delivery of US Mint coins. He had set up delayed delivery back in 2009 and every day since then he has been receiving a $10k shipment of US Mint coins shipped via the UPS Method. To date this has netted a cool 30,000,000+ SPG points.

At the end of the day he reflect on life and remembers what is really important and what he is thankful for.

Now it's time to count to 10,000 and fall asleep.

(This is a fairly typical day)

Just some simple tricks for car rental status.

You can get free Sixt Platinum status when you sign up with this link. Once you confirm your email address you can login and instantly get your card online that shows you as Platinum.

Then match that status to National and hopefully get Executive elite, possibly Executive. (Can also apply here directly for executive)

Then email Hertz Simply enroll in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Program then provide proof of your identity and proof of status with other car rental companies via email to

And apply for Enterprise Platinum here.

Avis you can try via social media or calling sometimes.

Fell free to add more matches in the comments.
A quick chazara of all my posts: Your attitude is what decides your mood, not what's going on. You can have a trip ruined if something goes wrong, or it can become one of the most memorable trips of your life. Roll with the punches. Always have a healthy dose of cynicism. Understand that someone with beliefs to the right of you or the left of you aren't wrong, just different, a rainbow would be pretty ugly with just one color. Enjoy life and always cherish what's most important to you, and try to keep that in mind every second of every day.

As a last note I'd like to do a small giveaway. just comment on this thread and I'll choose one winner to get a Google Home Mini and another winner to get the best card games IMO being Codenames and Monopoly Deal.

I can't thank DDF enough for giving me all the opportunities life has to offer, from making friends, traveling the world, to supporting my family, I couldn't do any of it without this truly amazing community.

Just to end off with a special thanks to Dan for starting it all and giving me the opportunity to grow the site and live the blessed life that I do.

Re: Airline Gift Cards And Vouchers Master Thread PSA: To all sellers: We live bh in a free country and you can set any price you want. However, most people have a cc which gives them 5x points on air travel (amex or citi etc). The values of those 5x points is usually around 7%.
There are also numerous benefits to buying airfare with a cc (protection, insurance and ability to pay later etc) which also add to the value of using a cc. For arguments sake let's say 3%.
If you are selling a gift card at less than min. 10% discount, there is no reason why anyone should bother to consider your wares....

Re: If You Could Ask AMEX Execs One Question, What Would It Be? If they could improve the competitiveness of the Biz plat vs CSR. CSR has $300 TC, automatically applied to all travel, BP is only $200, only for fees, only for selected US airline selectable once a year (officially). CSR value when redeeming points is 1.5 flat out on any travel, any airline, hotel, or car rental. BP value is 1.55 but you have to have enough points in the account for the full amount and wait 6 weeks for the 35% back. Plus, it's only for selected US airline (in economy). CSR earns 3*UR on all travel and dining, BP is 1*except for travel booked through Amex Travel, and 1.5 on spend over $5,000 (in single transaction).

    Did I miss anything?

Bring back earning 3*MT points on SPG cards.

Re: Air France Business award CDG-JFK VS BRU-JFK to save 4K You HAVE to take the train from zyr. At least in my experience. And yes it is a very good way to save money with cash fares

However, for the way back into France you can ditch the train since you have to take your luggage at the airport anyway (if you are a FF and afraid to be shutdown etc you can go to the train ticket desk and ask them to print the ticket and then leave since they have no way to further verify if you took the train or not). If you do want to use the train but want to go on a different train, ask the agent at the train desk and they should do it no problem.

When you get to zyr Air France has a check in counter where you check in the same way you would at the airport including getting your luggage from you on certain flights.

You can also book a direct flight from Brussels with delta which should be priced similarly. The logic is that Air France and KLM are one company and based in France and the Netherland with Belgium stuck in the middle so they do this to attract the Belgian customers to fly with them since they’re also larger then Brussels airlines

For whoever stayed at the Conrad USM and ordered from Chabad, How did you warm up the meals for Shabbos?
I'm also wondering if the charges are put on the rooms, this will be significantly cheaper since I can pay with Aspire credit...
Now the hotel charges a flat fee for delivery (800 THB) and to warm it up (350 THB) but the prices are sourced out directly from the restaurant menu.
Maybe @Denverite can help with the Shabbos part.
I would not trust the hotel to warm up. I brought a warmer with me. They opened my meals more than once

Sorry, we did not stay for Shabbos and we also didn't have them warm anything up.  Since we were a bigger family and also because I wanted kitchen facilities, I paid a little more and got a 2brm residence.

As far as charges, you can charge stuff to the room and use the Aspire credit.  I still need to finish my TR  :P but we took an awesome boat tour, booked through the concierge, and charged it all to the room so that I could points on all those expenses.

Re: Marriott Certs Sale @letav_aved thank you for allowing me to re explain our policy for others to see. I am all abt transparency. I am really sorry to post this here, are you sure you want to bring this here?

@letav_aved  contacted me last night to cancel a stay due to corna virus. We typically charge $75 to make changes, I offered to waive the fee and rebook him anywhere before the cert expires 11/27/2021.

@letav wanted a refund that second.

He booked in past, didnt pay and then requested to cancel. Which makes me wonder if he is cancelling for the reason he stated. He uses multiple aliases and was extremely aggressive when asking him why he wouldn't communicate and purchase directly. We work very hard to build a level of trust and offer good service to people that actually book with us.
As much id love just to book and cancel for free most people can understand we arent a massive company. Have we refunded people? Sure. Threatening me for not responding within an hour doesnt really help either.

Again, I am really sorry to have to post this here but  with his aggressive & threatening behavior I am sure that this behavior isn't unique just to us @letav_aved ?
I am happy to share screen shots of our communication to anyone who requests it.

Re: Bangkok, Koh Samui, Singapore and Maldives TR Amazing TR.

I'm sorry but it's hard for me to write about it when no one can travel, when everyone (including me) has to cancel their trips etc.
I hear you. I look at it the other way.. it's dafka when I can't fly that I enjoy reading TRs.
    Keep safe

Denmark and Sweden: An apples to apples comparison Denmark and Sweden are next door neighbors, and both recorded their first Covid-19 death a day apart (March 11/12).  This is true apples to apples. Before you go down the density path, let’s point out that Denmark ranks 65th vs. Sweden’s 91st in world’s densest countries, so Denmark is more dense. I challenge you to find a better comparison, factoring in climate, location, political viewpoint, culture, etc.

There is only one gaping difference (that we know of today): their social distancing approach. Denmark was one of the the first in Europe to lock down, and one of the harshest, while Sweden was one of the last and is still not fully locked down.  Let’s see how they compare.

    Total corona deaths:
    Denmark: 370
    Sweden: 1,765

Note: the total deaths number is skewed, because Sweden has nearly double the total population of Denmark. Nevertheless, even after adjusting for population, Sweden is at nearly triple as you’ll see in the next stat. That’s aside from the jolting fact that Sweden’s deaths per day is still sharply on the rise while Denmark’s is nearly down to nothing.

    Corona deaths per million:
    Denmark: 64
    Sweden: 175

New corona deaths on April 21:
    Denmark 6
    Sweden: 185

Total corona patients in the ICU:
    Denmark: 81
    Sweden: 515

Active corona cases that we know of:
    Denmark: 2,625
    Sweden: 13,007

Mind you, it’s not because Sweden is testing more- on the contrary, Denmark has conducted 6,000 more tests than Sweden, which after adjusting for population size is nearly double the tests per million.

As of today: Denmark is starting a gradual reopening of the economy, albeit ready to put the brakes on immediately should they see a sharp rise in infections. The reason? New infections and new deaths have been dramatically slowing down for more than 2 weeks already as of late April. Descent started in March.

As of today: Sweden has been putting consistently harsher measures in place. The reason? They see a consistent doubling of new infections and deaths, still sharply rising as of late April. In all likelihood this will continue for months.

I didn’t do this with California/NY, Israel/Italy, Taiwan/UK, Singapore/Spain, South Korea/France, etc. These two countries are really really similar and were hit in really similar fashions and at a similar time frame. The data is really hard to refute.

Again, we don’t know everything. But we do know that the suffocatingly overwhelming evidence points to extreme social distancing being really effective and the only proven solution to this virus thus far. The stricter and faster, the better.

Will there be a second wave? Will we discover a cure or vaccine? Will it go away “like a miracle”? Will the virus mutate and kill us all, leaving only those who acquired immunity? Alternatively, will the virus erupt in a worse form inside those of us who were already infected at another later date like in chickenpox (can erupt as shingles years later)? Only G-d knows the answers to these questions, for now. But if we’re focusing on today, on the 45,000+ deaths already in the US (still sharply rising, btw- over 2,800 deaths today!), on all of the lives (of people we know and love! Many deaths of people we know well!) we can be saving now as we ramp up testing, data on how and how fast transmission occurs, research on immunity potential, procurement of medicine and evidence of treatment protocols.. there is only one true hishtadlus. SAVING LIVES IN FRONT OF OUR EYES.

I might point out now that significantly more people have died of corona in the last 5 weeks in the U.S. than car accidents all year 2016 (which sported the highest number of car fatalities on record).

It’s also useful to point out that literally every single extra interaction during an outbreak greatly increases the likelihood of the actor and his/her close family and social circle getting and spreading the disease. Looking to others doesn’t matter: some people will always break rules, laws, etc. and unironically, those people will suffer from outbreaks disproportionately. It’s just math. I’m pretty sure Darwin has a theory about that.

I don’t want to be mekatreg on niftarim so I’ll keep this general- anecdotally, it’s highly likely that you’ll find a strong correlation between those who weren’t serious/didn’t follow the rules early or well enough and fatalities or serious illness later on in our communities. I will not point to specific examples but I have done a bit of research to the extent that I was able. You can use a rolling timeline of people falling ill/dying to see who was later in the cycle. Obviously this isn’t true of everyone, not close, but there is a strong correlation between late cycle illnesses and rule breakers.

There. I think I’ve provided some enlightening empirical evidence which begin to show the efficacy of social distancing.

Re: Delta to tlv opening May 8
Just like the reports that all United flights were being cancelled because they were zeroed out...
People don't know how to read, nor how to figure out the facts based on history.

The Israeli quarantine laws currently expire on may 6th and have yet to be extended. So delta resuming flights on may 8th is very possible.
shoutout to those who had faith in me and didn't pay 2k to fly a charter.

It’s your blog and you could do whatever you want. I just don’t think that you should be criticizing others for reporting stuff based on airline availability the same way that you did. 90/91 were zeroed out for like ten minutes yet your post was up for an hour
    Utter fake news.

And incredibly, you still don't know what the word appears means.

Re: Delta to tlv opening May 8 I wonder how many of the whiny and salty TAs out there would even be TAs without starting out reading DD/DDF or working under somebody who did?

Kafui tov many of them I suspect.

there's plenty of nuts out there so I'm sure you get absolutely mad mssgs/emails but pls don't feel pressure from the nutty's... but on the other hand thinking about it now I may start blaming you for all my issues so maybe not so much... lol...
Constantly get comments why I didn't write about XYZ story along with nasty comments that it must be because I'm paid off, biased, etc.
    It's absurd.

Re: Delta to tlv opening May 8
Because TLV works different. We know that, I said this countless times, when you are writing you expect them to be canceled, your readers do the same, and panic.
As a TA, I can say those few "panic" weeks were the hardest work days I remember. And sure enough within minutes of each DDMS post, the call volume got out of control with countless concerned parents, students etc.

I'm surprised you were so sure that flights would continue to operate. Quite frankly I was not. The carriers were zeroing out one after the other and then cancelling. I can't seem to remember the last time flights were completely zeroed out and then the airline reloaded inventory.  Even if you believe "TLV is different" and has a different track record, life as we know has changed so much by the unpredictability of this virus. Personally if I had child abroad, I would have done my utmost to bring them home.

I feel bad about the money people spent in the mad rush to get back to the US (for the sake of transparency, I am not affiliated with the agency who chartered the flights). So many shared that they really could not afford the added expense. Though I resented all the panicky calls at the time, I would never take achrayus to tell someone that flights would definitely continue operating in spite of the consistently worsening circumstances.

I feel impelled to share- I had one student who was planning on staying until the end of the year. When the panicking started, the father called me to change his child's ticket to return to the US immediately. Recently I was so pained to see this very father's name among a list of those who were niftar from corona. At the same time I marveled at the hashgacha that this child was able to spend the last little bit home with their father...

Re: Delta to tlv opening May 8
Do you not realize how many people in the Jewish/Yeshiva world rely on you for airline news and don’t really know much else.
I just wish all these thousands of readers would also have signed the petition @Dan set up to help all of us travelers. It's embarrassing how few signatures it got considering how many readers he has. People put up with so much anguish and frustration due to airlines lack of accountability, and by taking about 20-40 seconds to sign a petition, they could have brought all these powerful arguments to the attention of the proper authorities. (No, 1,706 signatures is not enough to attract attention to even read his post) We kvech and complain all the time about airlines bullying and nickel and diming, but when there's an opportunity to act, suddenly everyone was AWOL.

(I know I went a bit off topic, but you mentioned his thousands of readers etc. and this thread anyway went offtopic so I decided to unload this here...)

Re: Delta to tlv opening May 8

    How. Do. You. Know?
No flight was zeroed out for more than a few minutes, and which was it was kept changing, the zeroing out started a while before you post too. Agents hold the flights, this is facts, and that's what happened here.
From the start I called it, and explained why you were wrong too, but hey it's your site. Easy to belittle the complaints and refer to it as "whining" when you didn't lose thousands of dollars.
I didn't get on the next flight, I waited till I was ready to go, I was confident in my knowledge and view.
Now that clears everything up. ::)
The chutzpah level is off the charts.

I didn't start doing this yesterday. I was monitoring all of the TLV flights and saw all 4 UA routes go from plenty of availability to zero. On every date from 3/11-3/31. In every single class.

No TA is blocking that kind of space and it came right after Israel's quarantine announcement.
The odds of that being a cancellation were high and indeed, every other airline that did that did wind up cancelling.

Pretending to know better is utter nonsense. Of course there was a chance that it wouldn't be cancelled, which is why I never said they were cancelled, only that it appeared that it would be cancelled, which I stand by as an accurate statement of the facts that were on the ground on a tumultuous day.

Based on the news at the time and Israel's quarantine rules, people would have cancelled their flights anyway. Blaming all the cancellations on the post is naarishkeit.

Re: Tweets, Pictures, And Videos That Are Coronavirus Related
Well, the issue is droplets. So you know how those same underwear and jeans can hold it if there's a little droplet that comes out unintentionally when you your friend farts? Well, the covid droplets are even smaller, and so the mask works.

    Hope that helps your friend.
