Re: Is this story true?  I really feel bad to bring this up but I feel it's necessary being that I'm related to a young bochur who died of hunger in a Lubavitch yeshiva during WW2 which was right next to one of Aharon Kotler's yeshivas which at the time had a surplus of food. However the yeshiva was instructed by Aharon Kotler not to provide any food to the starving Lubavitch bochurim in the neighboring yeshiva. In fact some of the bochurim in Aharon Kotler's yeshiva took pity and broke the rules by sneaking a bag of rice to the Lubavitch bochurim. Several Lubavitch bochurim died of hunger when the supply stopped.

Another story: My great aunt worked in Aharon Kotler's office and they received a desperate plea from R. Weismandel in Slovokia who had bribed nazi officials to release thousands of Jews. At one point he secured a deal with Eichman to release many of the Hungarian Jews in the camps in late 1944 for an unknown sum of money. The request begged Aharon Kotler to help raise the funds needed to secure their release. His response was "NO" but he went on to print an updated version of "Shita Mekubetzes" (priorities?)

This story was documented a book called "The Unheeded Cry"

Needless to say I have a hard time believing the above mentioned  story...

Re: What Are The Top 10 Places You've Been To? 1)   Atlantic City-Donít remember any of it but BíH we managed to hitch a ride home. Still trying to piece together the rest of it
2)   Los Angeles- Went collecting there with a bunch of Chevra on Purim. Rented a convertible and blasted music all day. Yeshiva took a 10k loss and now gets paid by a local Baal Habus not to send guys there. Need I say more?
3)   California-Would highly recommend for anyone going to L.A. Nature is amazing
4)   San Diego-Had to show my passport to get in, but cheap beer and ATVíing canít be beat. Also known as Tijuana
5)   Las Vegas- Didnít really go there but tell everyone I did because we flew over it on the way to L.A.
6)   Hunter Mountain-Skiing+Cheap Beer=Free Snowmobile Rides
7)   ESPN Zone (Anywhere)-Not sure why, but the girls I take usually think itís a bit much for a first date (Sore losers)
8)   Shea Stadium-Especially fun this summer when Stubhub actually paid you to go. Much better hot dogs than Yankee Stadium
9)   Montreal-Went to friends Chasuna there and learnt  French curse words. 3 speeding tickets in each direction. Anti Semites at the border told us that Niagra Falls was on the way to Toronto. Is Canada really that big?
10)   Woodbury Commons-By a small margin over Jersey Gardens (during the zman) and Franklin Mills (Bein Hazmanim)

Re: Credit Card Wallet/Holder
I guess u don't do any shopping at costco
That was my favorite store. You could by a nice diamond ring online with a Visa card but when you returned it at the store they could not return it to your Visa card. I had to settle for a check. I wonít say how many rings I ordered but I never did find one I liked.

Do you mean literally in zal as opposed to in bed, as I was in zal at the time as well.

Start a thread "Where were you on November 22, 1963? It will be very short.
Sure, start up with an old man!!
I just got home from Yeshivah - a Friday afternoon, so it was around 12:30, and that's when Kennedy got shot! I remember it clearly.
Also remember Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
I can't seem to recall President Lincoln!
Again, Gmar Chasimah Tova to you all and looking forward IYH to a great year

Ok, CM, the thread's been moved. Hop aboard!
HAVE YOU ALL LOST YOUR MIND? Kosher switch? This is nothing but a scam, sham, trick, loophole or a hundred other things. One thing it is not is "kosher". This is not some CC T&C's you are trying to justify. Who do you think you are fooling here? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your creator? Good luck with that one.

Re: Kenya Safari TR Part 2

We were up at 8:00am on Thursday to meet our driver, Nick, with whom we will spend the next day with.  After retrieving our precious freezer bag from the hotel staff which were kind enough to store it for us, we loaded up and headed to Lake Nakuru National Park. The drive takes about four hours traversing through many small towns. There is great elevation and the occasional nice view.

We stopped along the highway to check out a small shop selling its wares. There was a school, I would presume on a trip, with its students looking at us as though we were from an entirely different planet. We assured them we were human and their bewildered faces adjusted.

On a side note, our guide expressed to us that people are scared to visit Africa because of Ebola, not being aware that the Ebola breakout was closer to London than it was to Kenya.

View from the car

Itís sad; lots of the city looks like this

School children and shop

We regrettably had to turn down his corn

We checked in to Sarova Lion Hill Lodge and were greeted with a cold eucalyptus scented towels and fresh mango juice. It was here that we discovered that the hospitality in Kenya is incredible.
We were given a brief tour of the camp grounds and headed off for our afternoon game drive!

Our cozy cabin

From the outside

The grounds are very nice and tranquil

Bountiful occupied birdsí nests

As soon as we began the drive, a monkey came inside through the top of the roof and stole a bad of goodies. Realizing it contained nothing of interest, it dropped it on the road and took off running. What a great way to start, I thought!
I took a bunch of zebra pictures unaware that they are as common as cows in the Midwest.

Zebra, of course

There are usually more flamingo, they say

I donít know what this is

Nor what this is

Ah, yes, a rhino

We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of this guy

When we returned to camp and denied dinner, the chef requested to speak with us. He said he was expecting us and made a kosher dinner. We politely declined and attempted to explain that we keep ďreal kosherĒ and that what he made unfortunately didnít fall into that category.
He begged with us just to see what it was he made for us.
Incredibly, he procured a brand new cutting board and knife! He also had a closed bottle of olive oil and plastic-ware.
He went on to say that he had a whole fish and potatoes double wrapped in the oven. We were shocked. We passed on the fish and opted for a salad instead.

Got to work right away

Re: Pesach Programs and False Advertising

And @aygart, I actually heard from a very Ehrliche program director that he is more comfortable eating from the hotel kitchen than he was at home the one year he stayed home. Odd, I know, but true.

That's because in hotel he gets to rely on someone else, while at home, he knew it was all on him

Up to 4 small shots up to age 40.

Although a chassidic farbrengen (gathering) is traditionally accompanied by the saying of "l'chaims," the Rebbe instructed that the number of alcoholic drinks should not exceed four per person (for people under the age of forty) Talk of Shabbat Shemini 5723 (1963), and numerous times on subsequent occasions.

How to ask a non-observant Jew to put on tefillin? My fathers dr. that's jewish and married to a goiyta is coming to visit him now.  This dr is a chief CCU specialist and chief at Columbia.  (Big bigshot) he never put on tefillan yet and we want to offer him to put on tefillan.  Whats the guidance to get him to do it in a respectful way? If I may correct you, you are a Shliach. For today, this is (one of) your shlichus('n) from G-d. And that makes you the "biggest bigshot" of them all. If we could internalize that, we will have all the confidence we need to fulfill our shlichus.

Re: How to ask a non-observant Jew to put on tefillin?
Can I just say, as a Modern Orthodox Jew I personally get frustrated by being asked to put tefillin on- often while I'm wearing a Kippah?
I, and as i understand, many lubavitchers as well, have had my tefillin used by people wearing yarmulkas countless times, dales minim even more. Many many people rely on it when they are late for work etc.
I guess it's worth those few that get frustrated ,for the many that benefit

Also:
Are you sure your yarmulke was visible?

With complete confidence, it is not unheard of to find a jew wearing a yarmulke who has not put on teffilin. Is it so difficult to say "thank you very much, I already put on teffilin today"?

as far as im concerned you dont have to open a new thread to share some of those stories with us. right here works just fine for me.

25 Years Since The Passing Of The Rebbe Hard to be believe that it's been 25 years since Gimmel Tamuz 5754. I certainly wouldn't be here today if not for the Rebbe and his shluchim.

We should all work on our ahavas yisroel, as that's certainly the path to bring Moshiach.

Re: Random airline-questions.
i have a general q about booking cash flights
q being if i am booking a whole bunch of flights back and forth from/to the same airports domestic would there be any way to get it cheper then booking each one oneway (not asking about hidden city)
Depending on airports, it could be cheaper to book round trips, and have a nested round trips inside the other ones.

Hereís an example that Iíve booked for someone.
He had to go NYC-ORF RT twice in 1 month. The price for NYC-ORF RT was $450, but a ORF-NYC RT was only $300 (and no, OW flights were not half the price).

So I booked (sample dates):
Trip A RT:
NYC-ORF 8/1
ORF-NYC 9/1

Trip B RT:
ORF-NYC 8/10
NYC-ORF 8/20

Same for international.
It can be cheaper to fly LON-NYC RT, then NYC-LON RT.
So if you need to go every month from NYC-LON, you book the first NYC-LON with the return being of your last time going, and then have a bunch of LON-NYC RT in middle.
