Re: 5 Towns/Rockaway Master Thread
This new 'Hashgacha' will not help elevate the standard or provide a more Machmir option.

Do you use R' Forst's list btw?

I wish the "Rabbi First list" would actually provide a list instead if the format they use now via email. It would be a lot more helpful that way.

What is ironic is that the list is mainly put together by Rabbi Eisen who works for tha Vaad. He has his own Kashrus organization called Kehila Kashrus in Flatbush where he establishes and decides the standard he is comfortable with. The Rabbi Forst list is basically a list of local establishments which meet the Kehila Kashrus standards.

Here Rabbi Eisen is just a worker and must abide by the (lower) standard of the Vaad which is grandfathered in. This standard does not satisfy many who now live in town, including many of the newer younger Aguda style Rabonim. Many attempts have been made, led by Rabbi Forst, and recently joined by many other Rabbis and lay leaders to higher and improve the current Vaad policies. But there was strong resistance from the left.

It would be so nice to have a new mehudar competing hoshgocho in town. Unfortunately this new hashgocha is not going to help improve the situation at all.

Re: New DDF Forums
Forums are for conversations, not shopping. What's the point in 100's of amazon deal posts a month with an average of under 100 views each and 0 replies?

I think the strength of the forums are the members ENGAGING with each other, helping each out, discussing travel tips, politics, news, finance, Jewish life etc...

Don't you think it makes more sense to have a nice landing page on DDMS with a grid of all deals that you can filter & sort, vote up, comment, thank the poster, report dead etc...

I don't see DDMS that way. IMO, the value of DDMS is selected deals sent out to the public, with a personal blog-like touch. Many of the deals have some personal commentary you wouldn't get from user-posted deals. You also have the CC sign up deals and analysis, as well as the personal experience and public interest posts. I think that by changing the format of the deals, it becomes a completely different site, more similar to SD.

Within the forums themselves, I see a value in making the deals page more similar to what you're suggesting. It should generate more traffic without changing the DDMS, and upvoting may help Admin get eyes on good deals quicker, plus additional insight into which deals are valued by readership.

Re: New DDF Forums As someone who often visits the Unread Posts and New Replies page, which show all boards mixed together, I can see a lot of value in separating the deal posts and the discussion posts.

Re: New DDF Forums I also think we could improve the search system so you don't get issued an arrest warrant if you mistakenly make a second search with 5 seconds of your first.

Re: New Chassidish Community Being Planned in Tampa ive found that most successful communities were built around a yeshiva
Monsey had BME
Lakewood had BMG
KJ had the Satmar yeshivah
to a lesser extent even Cleveland had Telz

in general Litvaks that move out only need a BM to keep the community feel together while chasidim(x lubavitch) must have a spiritual guide. without one it becomes a more bummy atmosphere with little hope of expansion.
The best of both worlds is when the litvaks build a strong torah foundation and then the chasidim come in and add the chesed infrastructures and commerce....

Re: How can you spot a Republican politician?
Trump pours the Kool-Aid and he drinks it.

“These kids have got to get back to school,” Parson said in an interview Friday with radio host Marc Cox on KFTK. “They’re at the lowest risk possible. And if they do get COVID-19, which they will — and they will when they go to school — they’re not going to the hospitals. They’re not going to have to sit in doctor’s offices. They’re going to go home and they’re going to get over it.”

ok, enough is enough with all these threads.  It's not even funny anymore

Re: JetBlue Kicks Frum Family Off Plane For 2 Year Old Not Wearing A Mask I strongly disagree with the policy. If it's dangerous for a two yr old then it's dangerous for an infant as well. Two make the mandate apply specifically at an age known as "terrible" (twos), seems pathetically ridiculous.
That said, basics in conflict resolution is to de-escalate. Explaining to the person in control why they're wrong and your right is the exact opposite.
My two yr old would never keep a mask on for 30 seconds let alone a whole flight, but I wouldn't argue with the FA. I would apologize and stick it on his face knowing full well that he's going to rip it off in a minute. I would do that every time it was requested.
I would also try and shield him from view of the aisle by sitting him in the window seat and trying to entertain him facing the window.

Re: Is Covid Spiking in Boro Park?
Call it what you'd like. People aren't nearly as sick as they used to be and aren't dying like they used to in NY. Can't speak for other places.
LOL
I get it. Basically whatever the answer needs to be that you aren't inconvenienced

Re: Is Covid Spiking in Boro Park?
Bde on your friends fathers. But ask any poskim and they will tell you that covid now in the local frum communities is not Pikuach nefesh. Obviously irresponsibility isn't a good thing but where do we draw the line? One person on this thread said that its selfish and your killing people to break the 14 day quarantine. So if people say things like that how will we ever have a healthy approach to it?.

I have yet to see a posek put in writing any halachic basis for not needing to take precautions or listen to EOs or medical directives. All I've seen is people doing what they want to do, when they want to do it, and blaming it on whatever boich svara or nameless posek is convenient to them at the moment.

Re: Is Covid Spiking in Boro Park? If wearing a mask and social distancing can save lives what is the downside? Being uncomfortable for a short period of time? And if it turns out that it doesn't really help, what have you lost?

There is an uptick in cases in the Frum communities in the Tri-State area. If we wait till we know that there is a spike and it is spreading like it was in March and April WE ARE TOO LATE. The only way to prevent the virus from spreading again is to act now before it gets out of control.

In my neighborhood Wal-Mart, Target, Shoprite etc...   almost 100% mask compliance by the non-jews, walk into a Shul not a mask to be seen. For hundreds of years jews have been blamed for pandemics and for spreading disease, based on the way certain segments of the Frum communities are behaving maybe there are right.

Grow up, stop acting like a selfish spoiled child and put on a mask if for no other reason than that is what the rest of society is doing.
