Going up north either Sunday or Monday. Unfortunately the lighthouse is closed on Sunday and Monday.

You can still stop by and get a beautiful view... (Closed means you cant go all the way to the lighthouse, but you can go to this view)
Fun fact: The Kilauea Lighthouse is the northernmost point of the Hawaiian Islands

Re: Colorado Master Thread
my brother and 2 friends are vacationing in Colorado and are looking for a place for this shabbos in Denver . any leads?

Tell them to book into the Staybridge Suites in Glendale.  It's in the eruv and they have Shabbos friendly keys.  We are totally inundated with tourists and hospitality requests here now.  Frankly, I think it's bad form to plan to cover the rest of your vacation and ask a stranger to provide your Shabbos vacation lodging.  This is coming from someone hosting sleeping guests for two Shabboses in a row but can this be a teachable moment where you tell them to stop looking and start making arrangements for this part of their vacation like they did for the rest of it?

staying at the marriott wailea beach resort
do they have great snorkeling over there?

any minyanim organized for new years?

not sure about the minyan!

but there is a perfect place for snorkeling over there. I think it is called Black stones! you can just walk down the path from Wailea to four seasons. you can ask staff and they will show you. I would recommend going snorkeling there in the morning(b/c water is really clear in the morning and you can see much more). We saw couple huge turtles in that area. It was amazing.

New Feature: Browse All Trip Reports On A Map! Click here to browse the map!

Every pin represents a single author's TR. Some people have written multiple TRs of a single locations, so these will all be in that one pin. Popular places with many trip reports will have many pins; these will show up as you browse and zoom into the map. Note that the pins are not places in precise locations; they are instead generalized to the country or city as per the master wiki.

Use this map as an easy way to find reports, to browse locations near the ones you're interested in, see where people who've done similar trips to yours went, or just to see how well traveled our little community here is.

This is still a work in progress, so please feel free to comment and critique.

Re: Maui Master Thread
Totally agree on #1, but #2 is not correct. If you drive the reverse you do the "second" half in the morning, which is empty. You do the "first" half in the afternoon, which is full of of people on their return trips, going in the same direction as you are.

But it seems like 4:45-5:00 is a good time to aim for. Thanks all!
You're still going to run into opposing traffic. If you leave OGG at 7:30am you'll make it to Oheo at 9:30 without traffic. You'll be hitting opposing traffic the whole way from there on out until the late afternoon.

Re: Everyday day things that you now say "Wow glad I have that". BREAKING: Chicago Jew maintains non-Jewish slaves to man his bathroom

An allegedly Jewish Chicago man has admitted to utilizing slave labor to turn his sinks on on the Jewish holy day of Shabbos. The man, identified only by his handle of "CountValentine," has specified that he seeks out "goys," or non-Jews, for this labor.

"I have a goy waive (sic) his hand over it," the Chicago native wrote on a popular deals forum site, in response to a question of how to activate an electric water faucet on Shabbos.

Jews are forbidden to activate electric devices on their holy day, which begins Friday at sundown and culminates Saturday night.

"Who would've believed that in the 21st century, such behavior can take place," flaming community activist [insert name] spewed. "And the Jews want to know why there is Antisemitism in America?"

Staff of [media outlet] were not able to confirm the Jewish ethnicity of the perpetrator, but his frequenting of the predominantly Jewish deals forum site "Dan's Deals Forums" points to that conclusion.

Is there any scenic drives within 2 hours of Brooklyn (that I wont need to get out of the car) ? Ive done Bear Mountain in the past.

Any off the beaten path ones?

Milford PA area - I've spent many days getting lost on side roads around here, mainly off the 209. Lots of woods, rivers, waterfalls, and mountain views. Make sure to check out Reymondskill Road and Reymondskill Falls (if there aren't too many people around).

And just north of that is one of the most scenic roads around here, NY's Rt. 97, aka Hawk's Nest.

Re: Is your Shul Secretly Open Right Now?
Who said it's illegal?

How about R’ Chaim Kanievsky? Is he holy enough for you?

No? How about R’ Gershon Edelstein, who specifically had a picture publicized of him davening b’yechidus “so that others should see, and understand that if I can daven without a minyan, then so should they”?!

Wake up, people. It’s not about the black-and-white of a government decree. The government is not your freaking babysitter. Just because you found a loophole in something they said, that doesn’t necessarily make it suddenly healthy and wise to do so!!!! Just because you’re allowed to buy cigarettes when you’re older than 18, for example, that doesn’t mean that smoking is healthy for you... it simply means that there’s a limit to how much the government can be your babysitter, and after which point you have to GROW THE $&@% UP and take responsibility for your own actions.

If this is something that EVERY MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL HAS SAID SHOULD NOT BE DONE, and ALMOST EVERY RABBINICAL AUTHORITY OF NOTE HAS AGREED WITH, to the point that RAV CHAIM KANIEVSKY EXPLICITLY SAID THAT YOU CAN REPORT PEOPLE WHO MAKE ILLEGAL MINYANIM TO THE AUTHORITIES, then why do you have to think you’re smarter?! Why?! Why?! WHY?!?! WHY?!?!?! Did not enough Jews die yet to convince you?!?!

If you contract COVID-19 while attending a minyan these days (even if you found a “loophole” in the secular law for that) and die from it, do you really think you’ll be welcomed into Shamayim with open arms as someone who died “al kiddush Hashem”?! Or do you think you’ll be getting the express elevator to the basement, for violating divrei chachamim and explicitly going against the words of virtually every gadol of note b’zman hazeh?!

In summary... my main point is: it’s not just government laws that can make something illegal. Commands from our gedolim can make something “illegal” for a G-d fearing Jew, too. And even if you find a valid “loophole”, you’re still an idiot, and your blood - and the blood of others - is on your hands.

Re: SBA PPP and EIDL Small Business Loans (some money is forgivable)
I agree. However, I think it should still be a conversation with parents. I have not heard one school send out a letter or email acknowledging the hard times we are in and maybe showing how the yeshiva is applying for PPP or Grants to relive the strain on the parents. In fact some yeshivas have the chutzpah of asking parents to pay for kosher tablets!
Unfortunately I agree. Schools are hoping to get PPP, grants, pell advances, whatever else is out there and then collect regular tuition payments like it's a regular day.

Honest communication from schools is very important. Be open with people and we'll be happy to pay whatever we can. Be sketchy with people and expect people to think about not paying any tuition for these months.

This is an opportunity for many schools to collect a tremendous amount of more money these months, more than ever before, but they need to communicate their plans!

Yeah, that's kind of the whole point of me bringing up Shmuel Kunda in this thread.

Written by a relative:

Do I run it well
Oh yes, you said it
I tweet out one innocuous and simple comment
And somehow I get called anti-Semitic

But I'm the kindest person in New York York York York
I'll be remembered for my reformed bail
Yes he's the kindest person in New York York York York
Just ask the people who should still be in jail

Oh his honor, yes his honor
Is the title by which I'm known
Oh his honor, yes his honor
Keeps clashing with Cuomo

I am the mayor of New York York York York
I will prosecute every COVID hoarder
And if people dare to step out without a mask mask
They'll be summoned by executive order

Yes we'll shut down this city of New York York York York
Every museum and public landmark
NYPD will give masks to New York York York
In central, prospect, but not Boro Park

We're on lockdown, we're on lockdown
So no one will need the train
Oh this lockdown, the crowds in lockdown
The subways can't contain

I am the mayor of New York York York York
I help the hungry and I help the needy
We'll open food banks for all that need it
There shouldn't be too many more than fifty

Oh, I am the mayor of a powerful city
We don't need Trump's hospital ships
You are the mayor of a bored, bored city
Your hotline just overflowed with tips

Mr. Mayor, Mr. Mayor
You're hated by everyone
Mr. Mayor, Mr. Mayor
You're out in 21!

Re: SBA PPP and EIDL Small Business Loans (some money is forgivable)
A) the same thing meaning the same expense. (Example: Your rent is 1k. You can't tell PPP you used 1k for rent, and then tell EIDL you used their 1k for rent.)

B) Your PPP loan amount stays the same. When it comes to forgiveness they'll take Total PPP (20k) Minus Total EIDL Grant (2k)= PPP Forgiveness (18k). That leaves you with a loan balance of 2k, which is the amount you already got from EIDL.

Again, what they're saying is you're only eligible to get the total of your PPP forgiveness from the SBA. If you took some from our EIDL grant bucket, you'll need to make up the difference by deducting from your forgiveness.
If I'm not being clear maybe someone with better communication skills can chime in?

@Shua I've been doing some more research on this and to clarify only the grant is deducted from the total PPP forgiveness.
If you received an actual EIDL loan (I haven't personally heard of anyone getting to that step yet) then it has to be rolled into your PPP.
