Re: Budget to penalize large families!
You really can't understand this can you? It's not looked at per child amount, that's just how they decide an amount to give you. Regardless they are cutting the total you are receiving as a benefit, not an entitlement. Learn to be happy with what you have. And how dare you accuse me of not caring for the poor! If you had any clue who I was or where I came from, I highly doubt you'd be saying that.
Of course it's looked at as a per child amount. Up to 8 family members, each additional qualifying child increases the benefit amount, which is logical - each child needs to eat. After that, under this proposal, the benefit would be capped. That means in practical terms that child number 7 and on receive no food stamp benefit.
If we as a country believe that there is some level of social responsibility that the government bears to ensure its citizens don't go hungry, then this cut makes no sense. Every child, including those in large families, should get the benefit they qualify for based on family income. If we believe we can't afford as a country to provide this benefit as it stands, then cut evenly across the board, or identify less at risk groups, like healthy adults, and cut them from the program. Cutting benefits from children from large families is a moral judgment that poor people should not have large families

Re: Budget to penalize large families! I warned about this in the poison thread throughout the election cycle... Trump is the worst thing that happened to the frum community.

It didn't stop the Lakewood and chasidish crowd from stupidly cheering on Trump as the Titanic was sinking.

But don't expect to hear a word of sanity from the yated and our other publications...

And it's going to cost the frum taxpaying community much more in eidim support and tzdakah. So don't even try convincing me that frum business owners are better off.. this affects the entire community terribly.

Re: Budget to penalize large families!
For every study there's another study showing the opposite.

It's like that in all sciences, climate, economics and all others. Each side spins for their side.

For you not to care about the fact, that literally hundreds of thousands of frumme yidden will be losing a lot of money. And many of them are genuinely poor. Because of some study and economics sevara you just read about. Shows me you don't care enough. Sorry, that's what I believe to be true.

Are you an Economist? Do you realize there are Nobel winning economists who laugh out loud when they hear about all this trickle down economics theory.

I'm not saying I know which side's right.

All I'm saying is that I'm not willing to risk my brethren as tests if this theories are true.

"Ven s'es tut vey, shrayt men"

BTW, I will not lose a penny if the proposal is approved. I just care about poor yidden.

Re: Budget to penalize large families!
Let's assume Bob can get a job that pays $35K.
If Bob is a single father with 1 child, he will only make $25K equivalent off of programs.
If Bob is a father of 7, he will make $60K equivalent off of programs.

How do we get Bob the father of 7 to work?
Bob the single father will lose his programs if he gets the job. Bob the father of the large family will continue to qualify, because both benefits and eligibility change with family size

Since it is Friday I will chime in. Everyone is sick and tired on these entitlements. Having a family with say 6 or more kids is a choice you made, not the government. If you can't support that choice the simple solution is to keep that thing in your pants!!!  >:( >:( >:(
Why should a family with two kids qualify, but with six kids not? The same logic should apply. Either children without enough guardian income should be entitled, or they shouldn't be. This is seemingly social engineering.

Re: Budget to penalize large families!
lol. It actually is different. Because his proposal only has a minimum income, but Communism has a maximum income too.

I really haven't thought about it. I was half kidding.
is your last name Sanders? are you from Vermont?
just a little Jewish Geography

Re: Jewish Music (New CDs, hock, and opinions)
First of all, as usual, unbelievable review.
Why don't you mention the song "father"? IMO it's the best song on the album. MBD's voice is so clear and fresh. The lyrics are brilliant (I don't understand how Lipa can sometimes be so brilliant, and sometimes so foolish?).
It is a good song, with a very pretty melody. But it is quite personal, and didn't really do much for me. I'm not exactly walking around humming a song about David Werdiger. I dunno, I just didn't really know what to do with it, so I left it out.

Lipa is a master lyricist, and fantastically creative musically too. IMHO, he loses his brilliance when he tries too hard to be what he is not. Lipa the badchan is fantastic, Lipa the Hassidic Lady Gaga is cringetastic.

Re: FBI Raids Orthodox Homes
Wasn't someone quoted as saying that "this is just the beginning" ?
Who warned the community in 2015 ?
The statement from the prosecutor is going to come back to haunt him. Any good defense attorney will seize upon that to show that it was not his clients alleged crime that made them arrest him but that they needed to show something for the millions of dollars spent illegally profiling a religious community. Imagine a prosecutor saying he targeted the black community.

Re: FBI Raids Orthodox Homes

Millions of dollars were spent targeting the Lakewood frum community. They need to show something for it.
How do you figure "millions"?
The many manhours of a large team over a large number of years.
You really need it give it a break.
Authorities have said the suspects are accused of taking part in sophisticated schemes that make the fraud one of the largest investigations in  recent New Jersey history.

Meanwhile these are pretty poor results from "one of the largest investigations in recent NJ history". There is so much government corruption going on in NJ that everyone knows about and THIS is what they are making their largest investigations on?
