You know generally when people here say they went to OGG or LIH they don't actually mean they only went to the airport, they're using the airport code to refer to the whole island :)

Re: Slogan for Dan's Deals
Bump, anything else :)
I think if you indicate what type of slogan you are partial to, it would help people work along those lines.

Personally, puns are not the way to go, as one man's hilarity is another man's corniness. As you'll see, I'm also partial to the rule of threes. Another thing to note is, as you mentioned, it's difficult to include everything your site is about. So there probably won't ever be one slogan that really grabs you. You'll likely always feel something is missing.

Here are some ideas to work off:

Where beginners and experts meet for deals, points and travel talk.

Save money, earn miles, travel the world.
Saving you money, earning you points, and helping you travel the world.

How you can save money, earn points, and travel the world.

Where kosher travel on miles meets daily deals and credit card points (that's an seo search term driven title )

Credit card points, travel hacking, and the premier site for Kosher Travellers.

Dan's mileage and travel expertise made easy.

This is Dan's site. Dan earns points and travels the world. Be like Dan.

The Jewish points guy.

The secret of millions of miles at a time: with the luckiest world traveler and a suitcase of pom meals.

Re: Staples: Buy $300 In MC GCs, Get $20 Staples GC By Mail
PSA: Cashier scanned the same card twice. Obviously it failed to activate, but the manager had to issue a refund for the card not activating. He did not realize that it was because it was the same card and he gave me the other never scanned card. I checked before I walked out of the store and realized that the card was not the same and I was able to get my activated card back before it got lost and I would have been out $200

I did try submitting a rebate for that transaction regardless since the rebate printed out, I will report back if it works.

TL:DR - Match the GC to the receipt before walking out, especially if there is any issues.

OT: 3 of my cards had $3 removed before I got to liquidate them. I liquidated the remaining $197 and now have to decide if its worth trying to get back $9 over 3 cards. Does anyone have any experience with the process with these? Is it a huge time sink?
Yes it takes a lot of back and forth and faxing in documents. Personally I would not do it for $9.

Keep in mind that sometimes it's just a hold not an actual charge. Once the hold falls off the money will be available to use. I had that with a few cards that were compromised.

Re: What Award Itinerary Did You Just Book/Hold? This one was a big project but I got it all done with I think the best possible routing for trying to get J for 5 ppl and the lowest possible points expenditure.  This will be a family trip post bar-mitzvah for my son, during Yeshiva Week, and I really wanted to make sure we had Shabbos with a minyan and nice meals.  I know it's really only supposed to be flights in this thread but I thought others might like to see where we are booked to stay since a couple of the hotels aren't typical ones DDFers book.  Also, I think it's way harder finding space with more than two people and above 4 ppl trying to get J flights is so hard.  Hope you all find it useful.

Den-SFO (need to still buy or book, wouldn't let me book on the same mileage ticket on Virgin because it wasn't coded yet as Alaska but I'm hoping that will change and I can add in that leg to our outbound to free).

SFO-HKG CX 893 12:55AM arrives 8:55AM Friday  50kAS plus $61.10 so 250k for 5 people and $305.50 and would have been $3500pp so .07 pp (Used free nights for 2 rooms for 3 nights at the Royal Garden next Kehillat Zion).

HKG-BKK CX included in the above mileage ticket but I am planning to cancel this leg because I found a direct flight

HKG-USM   Bankok Airways 8:45AM arrive 11:10 AM  Monday in Koh Samui. Only 10k pp and 50k total AF miles

It was $90pp taxes and fees or $452.30 over .06pp redemption even though they are in economy because it is the only direct flight and are over $600pp for a paid ticket (Staying 4 nights in the Conrad Residences).

USM-SIN Silk Air 12:05 with a 15:15 arrival on Friday.  Only 10,625 SQ miles pp so 53,125 total miles

I booked before the chart changes and decided I'd rather pay the $36 fuel fees for the 1375 discount because I had almost that exact amount sitting in Singapore that would only need a couple thousand point addition and I generally try to redeem at much higher than .03 per dollar for my transferable currencies (but maybe that was a mistake).  Total of $75pp in taxes and fees and $305 total.  A paid flight was $271 so was a .0255 redemption in economy.  Staying 2 nights at the new Hilton Garden Inn near the shul for only 10k HHonors a night, so not fancy but such a great redemption.  I want to have our last night there be my only paid hotel night and stay at the Marina Bay Sands.

SIN-HKG-LAX on CX 8:00AM will at 9:25 arrival on Monday the same day.  Again only 50k AS miles plus $81.76 so a total of 250k miles and $408.80 taxes and fees.  Paid tickets are 3158pp so it was a .06 pp redemption

LAX-DEN booked on American for 7500 Avios and and 5.60 fees pp for a total of 37.5k and 28.00

All together, I spent:
500k AS I was able to take advantage of that short-term deal where I transferred to Virgin with the SPG bonus and then got another bonus when exchanging to AS so those tickets really cost me about 300k SPG or 60k SPG pp RT.  That more than an $.11pp redemption of SPG points for those CX flights.
50k AF
53,125k SQ
37.5k Avios

All together all the taxes and fees were $1500 for all 5 ppl.

I am very happy!  :P

Re: FBI Raids Orthodox Homes and Businesses in Monsey and KJ
DH's statement - besides being a moronic thing to publicize - is pure BS.  Were these families living with 6 children per bedroom sleeping on mattresses on the floor?  Were they sharing a box of pasta for dinner every night?  No, they weren't.  They wanted their cake and to eat it too.  Pure greed and/or entitlement.
I can guarantee every one of these families started taking programs when they were 100% eligible. Once you're hooked to this free money faucet, it's very difficult to stop. Almost like substance addiction, people who were recently poor have a hard time parting with their survival mindset. If we can assign some medical diagnosis to this, maybe the feds would respect their rights. If a man can feel like a girl, a prince can feel like a pauper. 🌈

Re: Marriott Certs Sale
Bump, I'd love to know the answer to this question as well.
Some sellers claim that they can do it.

But honestly people buy these certificates to save $. Dont let people who dont know how the system works and will be scared the whole time do these things. Explain to them exactly how it works. If they feel the savings are worth it for them to be a little shady then let them go for it. If not then let them pay the regular rate.

It is hard to have things both ways when doing grey area practices. Either go for the savings or go for the comfort. Dont expect both for someone who is not on the forums.

Of course if you buy from a reputable seller who has references you will be fine, but these type of people are always worried and it is best to let them do it the straight way.

I hope this makes sense

Yammers trip to Yellowstone-Great Tetons-SLC ( Mr.,Mrs. & Tiny Tot (TT))  So here we go.

My real vacation planning started when I confirmed with a relative that will move in for the week (Sunday-Friday) to babysit the pack. Once that was confirmed we went ahead with what we've been thinking about for a while.

Where to go with Tiny Tot (TT)?

After going through the options, we settled on Yellowstone/Teton. It seemed like a good option with a baby.
1. Would travel at our own pace.
2. Would have a car and would be able to attend to TT needs
3. Relatively short flight (TT..)
4. Would have full days based on the availabile flights

So after searching airports we immediately saw that we had an issue. While there was a direct flight EWR-BZN on the return the only direct flight was from SLC. That would be a solid 5hr trip from the Grand Tetons. On the other hand traveling with TT with a stop was a recipe for disaster. With that in mind we started the search for Tickets.

There was only 1 direct flight into BZN. UA. And of course there was no Saver awards available. So we kept checking and 4 weeks ago ( no $75 charge ) we found availablity. But for the way back there was no availablity with UA. There was with DL but that was going to JFK and would complicate parking my car at the airport. I checked the seat availablity on DL and it seemed pretty safe to wait. So we rebooked the UA EWR to BZN every day( hoping that we wouldn't run into an Issue with Shabbos) and lo and behold on Friday availability opened up on SLC-EWR and we had our flights booked.

Prices on hotels were crazy. In west Yellowstone ( our destination choice ) The Holiday Inn was $399 a night ( No IHG availablity ) Days Inn $289 etc. They were the only ones with point availability. We ended up booking the Days Inn with Whydahm points, which was the same price for the king's suite @15k per night.

We then booked in Jackson ( in the Grand Tetons ) for 35k Marriott the brand new Springhill suits ( opened on May 15 ) and left the SLC to worry about later.

Then came the car rental.

I've been dealing with car rentals for a long time so this was really a shocker. Avis,Budget & Enterprise didn't allow any one way reservations at all. With National I hit a road block. I burned though the entire list ( that didn't have built-in LDW) nothing did anything for unlimited miles. Even Honeywell came with just 700 miles included. I would need close to 2000 miles ( @.4 per mile..) Hertz the same thing. ( Btw no executive or President isle at either...) After wasting waaay too much time I booked with risk ( after being warned by some DDFers ) hoping for the best for $250. On the Friday before the trip thrifty went down to $300 so I booked that for backup which relaxed the situation.

Got some tips about Yellowstone from @somethingsfishy and @whyme at a little DO I had my trip planned.

And so we we were finnaly ready to go.

To recap
7/16 EWR-BZN 8:48AM arriving 11:33AM
7/16-7/18 Days Inn West Yellowstone
7/18-7/19 Springhill suits Jackson
7/19-7/20 Newpark Park City ( near SLC)
7/21 SLC-EWR 11:37PM arriving 5:51AM

To be continued

I am sleeping near the airport, Hoping to grab an uber to minyan and then some Cheskies before going back to the airport.

ETA: a late minyan is OK
If you are looking for Shacharit after sleeping at the airport, then Beth Ora in St. Laurent is the closest shul.  There is a bakery not far from there on St Louis- not anything like Cheskies, but pretty good.  Otherwise those will be pretty expensive pastries at Cheskies if you are going by cab or uber. Also, there could be a lot of traffic from the airport area into town. You won;t have much traffic going to Beth Ora. Not sure when davening is there, however.

I'm reading their response as explaining why there were no flags in their system against bumping them. Based on the way the data was entered, it looked like they were a normal couple with a child getting bump.

Still doesn't explain why a person with eyes wouldn't realize that it's a bad idea to bump this "couple".
No, the agent in MAD was told by the mother they are minors. And the agents SAW they are minors. How much more clear could one be? Maybe they wanted to check שתי שערות?

So , my first cc was a FU, of course since it’s billed as a cashback card I made the mistake that probably a lot of noobs make...I redeemed 32k for cash back anyway life moved on and I discovered ddf of course I was very disappointed for being duped like that....
Anyway last week I decided on a whim to call up chase: can I pretty please have those points back ?
I got a good rep , with a bad English and asked nicely that I want those points for travel , can she reverse the transaction?
She had a few questions for me a. When am I gonna use the points if she gives it back b. On which airline c. Do I also want her to transfer the points from csp to the fu or do I have enough for my ticket 🤨🤨(I told her no, thank you very much)
Anyway she said she’s sending the request to support and I should expect an answer in 10-14 days... she was very nice and apologizing the whole time, and had no clue about ur
I waited with bated breath , and yesterday finally I saw YES they were back!!! (They did debit my acct for $320)
So cheers 🥂 here’s to 32k ur !!!
