Re: Everyday day things that you now say "Wow glad I have that". BREAKING: Chicago Jew maintains non-Jewish slaves to man his bathroom

An allegedly Jewish Chicago man has admitted to utilizing slave labor to turn his sinks on on the Jewish holy day of Shabbos. The man, identified only by his handle of "CountValentine," has specified that he seeks out "goys," or non-Jews, for this labor.

"I have a goy waive (sic) his hand over it," the Chicago native wrote on a popular deals forum site, in response to a question of how to activate an electric water faucet on Shabbos.

Jews are forbidden to activate electric devices on their holy day, which begins Friday at sundown and culminates Saturday night.

"Who would've believed that in the 21st century, such behavior can take place," flaming community activist [insert name] spewed. "And the Jews want to know why there is Antisemitism in America?"

Staff of [media outlet] were not able to confirm the Jewish ethnicity of the perpetrator, but his frequenting of the predominantly Jewish deals forum site "Dan's Deals Forums" points to that conclusion.

A goy does care. I read just about every post in this sub-forum. Some of the stories just tear me up.

When I read a story about someone taken so young and leaving behind a family with so many children I have no words how that makes me feel. Yes I do cry. I do not see them as Jewish children but as G-d's children who will never see their mother/father on this earth again.

When I read about so many of the elders you respect and cherish taken from you it hurts me deeply.

When I read the story of a non-Jewish family I don't even know losing four of their close family in a few days I have no words to explain how I feel.

Then I see a comment how a goy does not have "out of the ordinary feeling" for others and many members "like" it or +1000 it. Not one comment "Hey that's not really true".

There are tens of millions just like me.

1. You are only about the 101st person to tell me that. Easier said than done!!!
2. Not according to comments above thread

I know where you are coming from (a good place i'm sure) and I know what you are thinking and where you want to go. I'd rather not air out that much dirty laundry on here, so we can take it to Pm and you can call me if you have any further questions. However I''ll lay out some info here for everyone. I''ll try to keep it pareve, because i'd rather not bash them in public.

Hatzolah in many neighborhoods has become and exclusive club, you can't get in unless you are very connected to someone, or come with a lot of money, or if you are in an area that they are really really struggling.

Also they are mostly run like personal fiefdoms therefore what may seem logical and simple just doesn't happen. For example, I know many medics that are/were current members of various hatzolahs that they refused to let them ride as medics (they had to ride as emt's) simply because that's what the person in charge wanted. Only after much fighting, rabbonim etc did they get bumped up.

With that said - I would not change your life radically (e.g. move neighborhoods/take a paramedic course instead of yeshiva/etc) IN THE HOPES that you one day may be able to join hatzolah, many have gotten burned, and as overall their stance is they simply don't need you etc you most likely will be burned out and frustrated.

Chesed can be done in many other organizations that desperately need your help. I know (been an EMT for a few years now) that rolling to jobs and doing chesed at the same time is super awesome, but don't base your life around an organization that's stance is that they don't need you, and you"ll spend years trying to prove otherwise.

Re: So How Was Your Shul This Week?
Rabbi Reisman's shul is my shul the Rav was coordinating all the minyanim since Thursday between the main shul, ezras nashim, and simcha hall.
I've seen him at almost every minyan so far and everyone is keeping to all his guidelines. Everyone at every minyan was wearing a mask.
Rabbi Reisman is doing an amazing job!
There is something so beautiful about this. Here you have a rov who is personally doing his fullest to ensure the safety of his congregants, but at the same time, promoting shalom and saying not to cause machlokes if someone isn't playing by all the rules.

Ashreichem Yisroel Mi Kamocha!

Re: Life Hacks, Post Your Favorites! When you first open a bottle of soda or seltzer or pop, begin by slowly turning the cap one-quarter turn and wait about 10 seconds, watching for the small bubbles to slow down, and listening as the sssst of escaping gas gets quieter.  Then turn another 1/4 turn, and wait another 10 seconds till it quiets down.  Now open the cap the rest of the way, and look proudly around as you pour a perfect cup.  Don't expect a pat on the back, though, because nobody will realize what didn't happen.  But you'll know.

Because one day, soon we hope, you'll be at a shul kiddush, balancing a full bowl of aromatic chulent or chili or Hungarian goulash in one hand, and an empty cup in the other, and someone will offer to pour you a drink, and he'll twist that cap quickly, in one fell swoop, and you'll watch as the bottle suddenly erupts, and fizzy, bubbly liquid streams downward, over his greasy hands into your still-untouched chulent or chili or Hungarian goulash, filling the bowl with what now looks like brown soup, which overflows the rim and drips downwards onto your Shabbos shoes, and you'll look up as he sheepishly mumbles "Sorry!  Someone must have shaken the bottle" and you'll think NO, YOU DOOFUS!!!  DON'T BLAME SOMEONE ELSE!  ADMIT THAT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO OPEN A BOTTLE OF SODA! but you won't say that, of course, you'll just smile kindly and say "It's nothing, I'll get another bowl" and you'll return to the table, only to discover that the pan has now been totally emptied of its chulent or chili or Hungarian goulash, and you'll just sigh.  How could he know?  He's not a DDFer.

Re: Dating Stories Well, here's my most embarrassing dating story...I guess I should add some sort of tznius disclaimer to stop reading here.

Was going on a 1st date in the Mandarin Oriental NYC and got in the elevator to go to the lobby lounge. Drunk guy walks in behind us and asks if we're married, to which we said no.

Brother and sister? Nope.

Ohhhhhh, you're a ******, I'm in room 1423, come to me afterward please!

She later said we'd have a funny story for the kids and grandkids one day...but that wasn't meant to be.

Re: Dating Stories Dropping the girl off at the end of the date, I had a long drive home and didn't want to go off-route to find a bathroom (I'm an expert at easily getting lost).

I smiled and said, "Thank you very much, I had a really good time! Um, is it OK if I use your bathroom?"

Her: You can use the driveway if you want.

Me: Are you serious?

Her: Sure, you don't have to park on the street, you can pull into the driveway!

Re: Billion $ Ideas
I have an idea for an invention (not a billion $)
I can't find anything similar online.

Does anyone know how to go about turning the idea, into an invention, getting a patent, and then actually creating the production?

Process I would follow -
Find a reliable patent lawyer/agent to consult with regarding patentability
Hire industrial designer (freelance) to create 3D CAD models and samples
Search Alibaba for reputable factories within that niche
Once you have costing/factory sample and it makes sense to produce, file a utility (and optionally a design) patent
Produce the goods

PM for further help but I am bit busier these days

Re: Avatars Deals Forum Moderator Canceled After Expressing Sympathy for Deal-Targeted Company

A moderator on the prominent deals forum site DansDeals Forums has been booted from the site after he posted that he will refrain from allowing site users to access a certain coupon because "I want [the company] to make [money] when I patronize the business."

The now-former moderator, who went by the username AsherO, added that he did not want users to "50BM" the company - an acronym for "50 Browser Method," a tactic deals buffs use to utilize a single-use coupon multiple times.

AsherO was summarily fired. In a statement, site administrator JJ Eleff, a younger brother of the site's founder, wrote that dissuading users from getting deals is "contrary to what we stand for as a consumer-first brand," and that "there is no room in our company for soft-heartedness towards big brands." He also compared the post to an incident in which a Spirit Airlines employee was fired for doing a favor, a story that was previously reported by DansDeals Magazine.

The move is surprising as AsherO is one of the earliest members of the forum. His journey to being a moderator began in 2008, when he posted an the forum's first thread, "I wanna be a mod too." That became a real-life dream for the aspiring leader, but that all came crashing down with his post this week.

Some forum members are angry over the unexpected dismissal. "This cancel culture has to stop," forum member Euclid said. Others, led by member PlatinumGuy, assert that it's a free country and that forums owners can fire whomever they please.

It is unclear what AsherO plans to do going forward, though it's likely that he plans to devote his energy to building up his new hat company.

Rumors have circulated that the firing was done without the consent of site founder Bentzion Friedman, as the founder, known by his nickname Daniel Eleff, seems to have been abducted by American Airlines, possibly in retaliation for the notable blogger's activity which has seriously impacted their profits.
