My house has steam heat and the radiators are not getting hot in 2 rooms.  Other rooms on the same floor are getting heat.
What can it be?

Maybe the valves are closed?

It really just depends on what's cheapest on at the time. I'm curious why it matters if it's still an oz of gold
They all buy/sell for a different price. You might want to read up on this before someone takes you to the cleaners.

REVIVE THE FLIP PHONE Am I the only one around who wants to ditch my smartphone?

I have a computer at work, and aside from needing my contacts and calendar events alerts every now and then, I don't want anything else in my pocket.

Does anyone know of a flip phone that can manually import calendar events from CSV?

Re: Public letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am a rabbi at Columbia University and a graduate of Beis Midrash Gavoah in Lakewood, NJ.
I have transgender students, transgender congregants, and I have a transgender child. As Jewish educators, we donít teach Torah, in that the Torah doesnít need us as a rebbe. Rather, we teach children, Godís children Ė in Godís dwelling place, the classroom. We are taught in Shabbos 119b that Godís house in Jerusalem was only destroyed because schoolchildren were diverted from learning Torah. The Maharal observes that the purity and holiness of schoolchildren is greater than that of the Holy Temple. He explains that the wood and stones of the Temple are limited in their ability to accept holiness by their finite physical nature. By contrast, children, possessing an eternal soul, have an expansive capacity to hold Godís holiness through Torah learning. When the Jewish People prevented schoolchildren from being the natural receptacle of Torah that they are, it showed that they were not sensitive enough to appreciate even the lower level holiness of the Temple, and were therefore unworthy of it.
What do our actions say about our understanding of the Torah, which doesnít itself have a soul, when we deny its intended purpose, which is to be learned by the souls of Godís children? We are only worthy to teach Torah when we can appreciate the holiness and goodness of those whom we are teaching. All of Godís children are equally loved and entitled to the inheritance of a Jewish education, because they are the holiest among us.
No child should be denied admission based on gender identity. Further, Jewish schools should be welcoming, respectful, and affirming of the gender identities expressed by students. This means at least assuring safe and comfortable bathroom access, usage of preferred pronouns, and gender-affirming application of school dress codes.
The divine mandate to teach Torah comes with the holy responsibility to teach it properly Ė holding in our hearts that each childís most pronounced identity is being created in the image of God.
- Rabbi Mike Moskowitz
Can this be merged with the pot smoking thread?

Re: Public letter

That's because they decide to.  No one is forcing a male-to-female transgender person to dress as a female.  Completely flawed argument that you seem to think is some huge fallacy.
I did not want to get involved in this discussion and I had a momentary slip. To explain myself would just drag me in even more so I will respectfully bow out

Re: Public letter

What does it mean at all? We teach children to Torah?

To me, it means we don't care as much about faithful transmission of the Torah as much as how the children feel.

I'm sure he would deny that this was his intention, but that's where the emotional pull comes from.
I understood it to mean "chanoch l'nar al pi darcho". If we have the perspective that we are  teaching children then they become the priority and we will do whatever is neccesary to ensure the children are learning.

October 07, 2016, 09:57:46 AM
Re: Public letter I think the intention was to imply that the goal is not to get up on a pedestal and preach torah, but rather to transmit torah faithfully to the students in a way they can process properly. Which is a well-supported concept.

Then he uses that starting point to support other ideas.

October 07, 2016, 10:18:27 AM
Re: Public letter I have a question that has been bothering me.  I respect the primacy of torah and halachic observance.  Obviously observances and standards vary  between communities, but there are some core halachic concepts that are indisputable.  I get that.  The question is what is the community's responsibility to people that don't fit into the halachic box?  What do we do with someone who believes in Halacha and Torah Misinai but isn't attracted to people of the opposite gender or who suffers from the various gender dysphoria issues?  Is there room to reject the sin but accept the sinner?  Obviously nobody can say that halachically the actions are acceptable but is there a mechanism to make the people suffering from these issues not feel like outcasts?  I'm not entirely sure what the answer looks like but I'm interested in your take.

Re: Israel's good friend Obama... I think Israel is that geeky kid with no friends, he finally finds a girl that hangs out with him.
But of course, he's such a nerd that he enters the perpetual friend zone. He's able to benefit from her company and she sticks up for him but he never gets what he really wants.

Then one day she finally abandons him, which seems really terrible for such an unliked loser. But if your in the friendzone this might turn out to be the greatest event of your life. Because what happens next, once she lets go of him, there's someone waiting in the midst that's willing to forge a relationship that goes further than ever before.
