Re: Women in Jewish magazines Anything we want to change we need to answer these questions
Are we saying we were wrong up until now?
Did the halacha change or was it only chasidus? What would it not apply anymore.

Re: Re: RIP/BDE Master Thread
Much respect for him, but I did fee that towards the end of his life he was more worried about making a legacy for himself than supporting his party.

I agree. John was a great man, a true American hero, and the country owes him a debt it can never repay. However, I stand by what I said.
He was not and is not immune to political criticism.
Do you really think him asking trump not to attend the funeral will bring the country closer?

Aside from the fact that OP didn't mention politics, your comments are absurd. Since when is towing party line anything to be proud of? Especially in recent times when towing party line meant carrying water for a man of such vile character.

He can certainly be criticised for his politics, and he undoubtedly made mistakes. But do you know who was harshest on him for his mistakes? John McCain.

His writing about selecting Palin and defending Confederate statues (among others) shows true self reflection the likes of which are almost never seen in politics. Just look at Cruz and Rubio et al, and how they've lost any sense of dignity, courage or integrity to tow party line.

The loss of McCain is not just the loss of an American hero for his military sacrifices, but the loss of one of the few politicians who was able to show integrity and class and wasn't a complete sellout.

No, not having Trump there will not bring the country closer together. But having him there won't either. For a man who has said some of the most heartless, disgusting things, perhaps his worst was mocking McCain's capture. On what planet would you want someone who was such a disgustingly cruel turd to you attend your own funeral?

Using Trump in the same sentence as "bring the country closer" would be comical enough. It is downright absurd when you consider your comment was about a man who asked that the 2 people who crushed him in his runs for president and are polar opposites politically to eulogize him.

Re: Why Do Lubavtichers Wear Their Shirts Untucked?
They're obsessed

I understand that your favorite thing to do is to bash other Jews who are not 100% exactly like you, with your favorite target being Lubavitchers, or as you call them "Chabadskers", but isn't this a case of basic Emunah? Why aren't you obsessed? Do you believe in the 13 Ikrim? Just curious, asking for a friend...  ;)

Re: Chabad Minhagim: Pros & Cons
Not sure why that's sinas chinam. It can just as easily be bias or stubbornness. Sinas chinam would be hating a fellow religious jew. I can think of many groups of jews that have criticisms on other groups but do not hate them. And some of those criticisms would be called by many others absurd.
Basically, Cbc thinks chabad is crazy and views them through that prism.
Dismissing thousands of yidden as "crazy"? Bias but not "sinas chinam".

Calling an established minhag Yisrael - which, need I remind you, Torah hi - a breach of halacha? Stubbornness, not "sinas chinam"

Being mevazeh a Talmid chacham berabim? Oh that is just CBC being CBC, no baseless sinah there.

You'll notice that in this very thread and in numerous others there is loads of questioning Chabad custom. How many got branded a soneh Yisrael?

One need not read through all the texts provided about this custom, the answer to the question is right there on the very first line. Literally. I've heard countless claims and accusations against Lubavitch. Never heard of Tehillim after davenning being an issue.

While it's generous of you to be melamed zchus, the prism I see is denigrating g'dolei Yisroel and generations of ehrliche Yidden based on nothing. That seems to me to be the very definition of sinas chinam.

I barely ever answer CBC seriously, it's almost always jokes from me - for the reasons @ExGingi mentioned. But you wanted to know why some would find his "biased prism" hateful, so here is a look into one instance, without delving into his post history.

There is a story I heard about a kindergarten aged child of Rabbi Slavaticki in Antwerp, and I don't know how true it is nor do I care. A non-Chabad classmate said to her, "my father doesn't like your Rebbe." To which she responded, "But my Rebbe loves your father."

Just want to say thank you @doodle for your unbiased and meaningful insight into this topic. I don't know where we would be as a society without people like you who ask questions with the sole purpose of understanding another's reasons or beliefs.

And a special shout out to @Yehuda57 @Dan @churnbabychurn @LoLo @gingyguy and others for the best laugh I've had in a while.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
Didn't see a question but will gladly answer if I can. What is the question.
Answer to yourself why no such reporter exists at *any* mainstream or left of center news organizations, when do they do exist for all other forms of racism.

Ask yourself how you had no idea that people you interact with here on a daily basis had to hide in their basements as violent mobs broke their windows and screamed "kill all the Jews", and while the mayor of New York ordered police to stand down and "let them vent".

Ask yourself why one of the people who incited those riots was invited to the white house dozens upon dozens of times, has his own show on a major network, is a "consultant" to numerous political campaigns and is a senior advisor to the mayor of NY.

Ask yourself why Giuliani saying idiotic things got more coverage than Jews killed in a domestic terrorism attack.

Ask yourself why a presidential candidate endorsed a foreign candidate who 87% of Jews in his country felt was anti-Semitic without even one reporter asking him about it.

I can go on, but my point is there has been a pattern going on for decades, with a stark increase in recent months, and pointing to mainstream media calling one or two singular incidents has hate crimes or terrorism doesn't answer how its been ignored until now.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews How many Jews can "rational people on Facebook" justify getting shot if 5 Chassidim are dishonest in business?

How many Jews deserve to be hacked by machete if 10 religious Jews scam welfare according to "rational people"?

How many Jewish children can be targeted to be shot dead for every over-zealous Jew trying to buy a house in a rational person's neighborhood?

"If there is a attack, I need any rational person to be able to say this is senseless anti semitism"

To stay or to go? Would you like fries with that? What else do *you* need?

Does an orphaned child need the same, or can his/her standards be a bit lower?

Will the same rational people be ok with me shooting up a country club because a lawyer scammed me?

Can I hack investment fund managers with machetes because of Maddof?

Look, I know you're not justifying it yourself, but what's the difference between that and justifying the justifiers?

Anyone who sees an attack on Jews and says, "it's terrible, but..." is NOT a rational person we need to placate, but a hateful bigot we need to loudly condemn.

If you want to give a musar schmooze, it's Zos Chanukah, there's plenty of inspiration to be found. If you want to find inspiration and a call to action from the tragedies, by all means.

But to stand on the fresh graves of those killed in Jersey City, and atop the blood flowing in Monsey to eck and beck about justifying the murder of Jews because fewer than 100% of the community are absolute paragons of virtue? That sickens me to the core.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
You are missing the point.
No, I absolutely am not. There has been nothing civil about the "sparring", it's been virulently anti-semitic for DECADES at every level of local government and community discourse. And linking these decades-long issues which have been exacerbated by slanted and dehumanizing media coverage is beyond atrocious. There have been hundreds of attacks against Jews in the NY/NJ area in the past couple of years, and a handful have been in the areas with the so-called "civil sparring". The most recent Monsey attack was done by someone living HALF HOUR away, he was googling "Zionist Temples near me" not "East Ramapo school board politics." The Jersey City attack was committed by Black Supremacists, nothing to do with gentrification.

Jews are moving into Jersey City BECAUSE they are being gentrified out of Williamsburg.
Thousands of Jews have moved to East Flatbush, Upstate, East New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, etc. because they were gentrified OUT of Crown Heights.

When was the last time you heard of a Jewish guy attacking a typewriter using kombucha sipping yoga pants sipping, New Yorker bag toting mustached hipster because a one-bedroom apartment costs $2,000 to rent? Or because the white newcomers fought to have separate swimming hours that had been going on for decades for local women stopped?

Imagine having an article a few days after the Charleston Church shooting saying, "Dylan Roof's comes after civic sparring about confederate flags and statues, talking about how white residents are upset that the blacks are ruining their way of life by *buying houses*.

I'm so freaking tired of this.
