JJ1000's 10,000 Post Featuring: A day in the life of Dan, Giveaway, & More It's hard to imagine I joined DDF over 10 years ago, of course this was after I made the first comment on DDMS 14 years ago and joining ctown forums after that.

I really can't begin to count the memories I have here on DDF, one that comes ot mind is the first major DO where @Dan @AsherO @BrooklynCPA @Mikeoracle @Smirk @MOSES @whYME @yare @Avid Reader @Chachem Balaileh @mancunian @yid @SuperFlyer all had an amazing time.

Picture of the DO:

Back at that DO no one really knew who I was, besides that I was the guy who started the jokes thread, which I must say was one of my finest additions to DDF ;)

Since that DO I have made countless friends and received countless favors from DDF members, who truly are like family.

Some that come to mind.

@rots5 and @moish putting me up in Israel while @moishebatchy offered my friends and I extra sheets for our stay, this was of course when we went with the first El AL glitch tickets. @SamKey For hooking up his apartment for Pesach and @Emkay for some awesome kugel, that I am pretty sure had an ok hechsher. @Chaikel for setting up a sweet Jamaican honeymoon.

@steve2 and the fights other new comers used to love to pick like @AJK when he was a total troll back in the day and @HelpMe who IMO had no idea what he fell into when he got here, and I'd like to think was very happy that he stayed.

@TimT is always there to offer some advice and is obviously the best searcher on DDF, @AsherO and @aussiebochur used to be that helpful guy until he got too busy for us ;)

Of course there was @JEWDA who it's still hard to believe isn't here anymore, going to his widows house the day after my Lchaim/vort with my then fiance will always be very special to me. The way DDF comes together when someone is in need (@SBS thread) is so heart touching it's hard to explain.

@mileagejunkie @Marco Polo @myi @YossieW @stooges44 @davidmal @Yaalili @B.D.Da'ehu @ben89 and of course @Davidthebest are my 100 HT club peeps, and have helped ignite the great deals we post every day to help tens of thousands of people save (and maybe spend) money every day. I really appreciate every deal that's sent to us and that's posted on DDF.

I couldn't possibly remember all of the countless nights I stayed up to argue with someone that was wrong about the most random things imaginable. @churnbabychurn @ExGingi @aygart @ChaimMoskowitz and of course many others can always be counted on for some good popcorn when it's needed. And @sky121 can always be counted on for a balanced and positive view on any subject.

Some dude coming along looking to sell a stinky old fish tank has drastically improved the trip reports and photography skills of DDF, hats off to you @Something Fishy.

@DH Data Recovery practically owned the tech deals on ddf at one point, and he @chevron and @txtmax4  are always good for a wine recommendation.

Wrigley softball DO with @SrulyS @Moes Tavern @Redbull3 @MosheD @EJB @chucksterace @Bentch @grodnoking @AJK @Yitzshpitz @Dan@Yodai Dooma @ShmulieCFS @JTZ

One day I may even meet @henche though that is likely IMPOSSIBLE.

Big shoutout to @BAHayman, @Eli, and @Suave for making DDMS/DDF able to run and be what it is today thanks to them!

The first DDF shidduch was super cool @Lou Bob @MC to many more, spending shabbos together in Aruba on the Hyatt Price Mistake was awesome.

Crazy to imagine there are over 300 members with 1,000+ posts so my apologies, I'm sure I missed many memories.

I made a thread asking what I should do for my 10,000 post, and I will try to do most of them below.

Enjoy :)
A typical day in the life of Dan:

Some names and identifying details have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals.

Dan wakes up from an amazing night's rest on his W Hotel mattress. and tell his Echo Dot which he got for free to turn on the Breville Coffee Maker plugged into his smart plug.

Get into hisNissan Altima and take the quick 2 minute drive to shachris.

After davening, @AJK texts Dan that AA has a Price Mistake to LA in F for $5, if they buys it in the airport and flies today. Naturally Dan just heads straight to the airport and boards the flight to LA. On the plane there is a dog next to him, which was strange at first until he realized it was just @meshugener flying in F as well.

In LAX Dan visits the United lounge, which he has free access to with his lifetime membership and his JMPRCC. He picks up his rental from Silver Car and heads to Tierra Sur for the Lunch DO.

In LA @Yehoshua @Cholentfresser @Yaalili @PlatinumGuy @yehuda @D93 @etech0 @ilherman and @David Smith all meet up for the DO.

All of a sudden Barto walks in and instinctively, the group makes a beeline for the door. But before they can bail, he stops them...And says he planned the AA Price Mistake in order to get a face to face with Dan after all these years.

Barto has realized after years of being the bad guy, he just wanted to hang out with the cool kids on DDF from the olden days like @Drago @Saver2000 @Cbs @Q274 @MarkS @aussiebochur , @chuchem and @myb821, he said even though it's @noturbizniss but he left his old job and as he was leaving he reinstated all the damage he's done over the years, returning millions of miles to their rightful owners.

Everyone was very happy and had drinks all around as well as
grilled to perfection.

After Lunch Dan drives back to the airport and rushes to catch his flight home as he realizes it is almost time for his UPS delivery. On the plane he uses the on board Wi-Fi to make some posts and read DDF (this is actually what takes up 18 hours of the day every day, besides shabbos).

He makes it home just in time to receive his UPS delivery of US Mint coins. He had set up delayed delivery back in 2009 and every day since then he has been receiving a $10k shipment of US Mint coins shipped via the UPS Method. To date this has netted a cool 30,000,000+ SPG points.

At the end of the day he reflect on life and remembers what is really important and what he is thankful for.

Now it's time to count to 10,000 and fall asleep.

(This is a fairly typical day)

Just some simple tricks for car rental status.

You can get free Sixt Platinum status when you sign up with this link. Once you confirm your email address you can login and instantly get your card online that shows you as Platinum.

Then match that status to National and hopefully get Executive elite, possibly Executive. (Can also apply here directly for executive)

Then email Hertz Simply enroll in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Program then provide proof of your identity and proof of status with other car rental companies via email to

And apply for Enterprise Platinum here.

Avis you can try via social media or calling sometimes.

Fell free to add more matches in the comments.
A quick chazara of all my posts: Your attitude is what decides your mood, not what's going on. You can have a trip ruined if something goes wrong, or it can become one of the most memorable trips of your life. Roll with the punches. Always have a healthy dose of cynicism. Understand that someone with beliefs to the right of you or the left of you aren't wrong, just different, a rainbow would be pretty ugly with just one color. Enjoy life and always cherish what's most important to you, and try to keep that in mind every second of every day.

As a last note I'd like to do a small giveaway. just comment on this thread and I'll choose one winner to get a Google Home Mini and another winner to get the best card games IMO being Codenames and Monopoly Deal.

I can't thank DDF enough for giving me all the opportunities life has to offer, from making friends, traveling the world, to supporting my family, I couldn't do any of it without this truly amazing community.

Just to end off with a special thanks to Dan for starting it all and giving me the opportunity to grow the site and live the blessed life that I do.

Re: Once again El-Al has their annual 7 hour delay to tlv... United 84 yesterday had a massive delay forcing it to take off about 1am. At that point, they needed to take the pilots from flight 90 to operate the flight, causing UA 90 to be delayed a couple of hours until another crew arrived. When the new pilots arrived, everyone boarded and by the time they were ready to close the doors, the in-flight crew claimed they missed the deadline by about a minute (for maximum work time) and they could not take off. After a long fight with the ground staff (who claimed they should continue flight as planned), they needed to deplane (at about 4am) just to sleep in chairs (even the lounge was closed) until they can get the flight staffed at 8:30am (which eventually took off about 9:45am). These 2 delays obviously caused flights 85 and 91 from TLV today to be delayed by 7-8 hours.
Btw, the above story was United, not El Al. (of course - had it been El Al, it would have been reported here at least 15 hrs ago and possibly a DDMS article too)
Just saying.....

Re: US Politics/2016 Election Pick Your Poison Master Thread
That is your answer for everything. They all do this or they all do that.
One party is increasingly becoming the party of old white men. I wonder why that plays so well on this forum, not!!!  :)

I'm 33, younger I voted R because of Israel. But stuff like school vouchers were huge to me this election (I have no kids)

The unfairness that the frum community has to shoulder this burden, the constant whining by the public school system that they don't have enough money yet they fail to educate kids properly.

My sister voted Gillium because she wants Medicaid, she's 21 with nothing but a basic HS degree and works as.. a teacher in Jewish private schools and she's a moron and I told her so.

So young people often are idiots, the same people that racked up 100k in school loans vote for the party that calls to wipe it out.

No body racks up high student debt going to state / county college.

So you lived the good life for 7 years and didn't work.. we should pay the bills?!?

Re: Haters, Threats, And Trolls Based on user feedback I will lock this thread, to avoid feeding into the hand of trolls.

I appreciate all the support and feedback, this was just something that to be honest is scary to be threatened and it boggled my mind, so I wanted to see if there was something I was missing, but it seems not.

If said person would like to reply to the 2 very simple yes or no questions I presented he is welcome to, or be a real mentch and make a phone call, say who he is, and don't have double standards.

I suppose that ship has sailed as he was never actually interested in anything being accomplished or any sort of honesty with the situation. The "deals industry" has a standard, right or wrong, and it is how that person has done business since his inception, to now expect others to break that standard only when it's good for him, is of course ludicrous and borderline narcissistic if he even does really believe it to be the case.

I will leave these 2 here and @mbelsky is welcome to PM me a reply to get it posted:

1. Do you post where you get your deals from.

2. If you don't post where you get your deals from why do you think others should post when they get it from you.

The only advice here that matters is to never invest money you canít afford to lose.

I disagree about the others. I think the people that became billionaires from investing with Zuckerberg would disagree with you.
They didnít loan him money, they bought equity. Which means they had unlimited upside which made their risk of loosing it all (Thanos) worth the gamble.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others I never understood this. If a business is successful it should have its own credit cards. If there's an issue getting their own cards, then that's a bright red flag. I have a small business for 2 years and my charge card can hold at least 300k at once.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others The confusion is, a ponzi scheme as we know it, involves something like maddoff, pure fiction. @YesThatsMe is arguing that it was a legit business. Borrowing from A to pay B and keep business afloat is done every day in corporate america..

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others When a business is constantly losing money, or if owners treat the business accounts as their own personal accounts, and there's lots of cash flowing through the accounts (because people chose to finance this with their credit cards, without doing any due diligence), it's a game of musical chairs with more and more chairs being removed with every round.

I have seen business owners that have no clue about accounting, and have seen both sides of the story.

I've seen money losing businesses where the owners constantly paid personal expenses from business accounts (until the business was shuttered - just to open the next business). I have also seen profitable businesses that simply didn't know how to manage cash-flow. A review of their books and business practices, with some education, saved lots of money on bank fees and interest payments, and put the business finances into better perspective for the owner.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others

I respect the information from the time that you were there, however you are completely out of the loop and are spreading a lot of misinformation. Anything you've been hearing since you left, should not be quoted here, as it is also just "third party hearsay". It might be based on truth, but it's not the full story.
You can keep posting about the time you were there, but your information from after that is only partial-truths and misleading.
Wow that account was made a long time ago... (Iím just here for the popcorn)

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
Thank you for the edit, however it's still not the full truth. True you may have been there for the birth of the trucking company, however it grew a whole lot more since you left. And AFAIK you were definitely not there for any of the other purchases, especially not The Buzz, which you wrote about with lots of "authority" earlier.

Anyways, I'm not here to argue. My point is, you left 2 years ago and have no idea what happened since thenóas you yourself admittedóso please stop spreading rumors. It helps no-one.
Would you like to share the actual story?

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
I'm not defending him, and I'm not saying it shouldn't be spoken about. All I am saying is if someone is stating "facts", they should make sure they are indeed facts.
Like i said, the issue has been taken care of.

Anyone who was personally involved and has first hand information is more than welcome to speak out. It's the rumors and third hand information that should be stopped.
From what I have seen @YesThatsMe has been pretty clear about what items he knows firsthand and what is hearsay. Considering that he was there for part of this the sources for what he has heard are probably pretty reliable. If there are any items which you are disputing feel free to correct them. Otherwise, respect his decision to discuss what he has heard from his sources. Why do you get to decide what should or shouldn't be discussed?

@Dan maybe just make the shortest post ever. No details needed. Just say:

Proposed subtitle:
Even for the most honest and trustworthy people, unexpected things beyond anyone's control can happen, that will make that reimbursement get seriously delayed (possibly indefinitely).

IMHO it would be important to explain that you can't just make a chargeback because you didn't get paid back.
From what I hear a big reason why people do this is because they rely on chargebacks.
Just my $0.02

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others ere is the story in regards to one of the recent credit card swiping scams.

Someone already mentioned the owners name S*****. He has a business reselling toners and other photo electronics.

He's been using people's credit cards for quite a number of years where he would use people's cards and pay the bills when they were due. He also had a lot of loans from loan sharks - paying 30% interest and paying over a year etc.

It reached a point where his business couldn't sustain the extreme amount of interest he was paying for swiping other people's credit cards.

He paid people to get him credit cards from other to swipe by him.
I know for a fact that he and his brother hounded people for credit cards when they already knew that things were going downhill, so all this talk that he's not a ganev, and didn't mean to screw anyone is a load of BS

The straw that broke the camel's back was when his credit card processor froze his processor and alot of money as well, and that is when the whole thing went bust.

There is between 15-18mm dollars owed to over 200 people just on credit cards alone. This doesn't include cash loans that he owes people.

These people live a very comfortable lifestyle, nice houses, expensive cards, own real estate etc.

Unfortunately there are many young kollel guys involved that don't have a single penny to their name and got connected to all this via the guys who brokered credit cards to this business.

At this point he hasn't given any sort of plan on how and when hes paying people back and is mostly just avoiding giving any real concrete plan. The options for all the victims all have downsides to them.

A few people have already disputed 100's of thousands of dollars, and this caused the merchant account to be flagged. Almost every person I know that is involved have gotten FR'ed by Amex.

People are either going to just have to default on the loans and hope for the best, or some may take the dispute route although with this much money at stake I doubt the processing bank will go down so easily. There are ways to dispute legally without saying any lies but it can be expensive and in addition there is a very big chance that this can blow up into an even larger criminal fraud investigation, and people might not want to be connected in any way shape or form to this business.

Its a big mess, and this isn't the only story happening right now - aside from Sterling there are at least 3 more stories that I know of going on right now.

I know it's been said many times here, and I myself always thought it won't happen to me, and its quite embarrassing - I'm a longtime ddfer and know many people on here personally - hence I created a new username for this post.

It's a very unfortunate situation with many victims involved. I know people who were/are on the verge of getting divorced bec of this. It's just not worth it. No matter how much point/money you can make. There are too many risks involved.

I will not answer any pm's and will try my best to answer any questions that are asked here.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
To make points and rewards, people I know swiped their ink card at and got 5p per dollar, they gave $200K made 1M points and sold for $15K every 6 weeks.... so they didnít ask for what theyíre swiping.... making $15K every 6 weeks makes you addicted to swipe more.
It's not so much affinity fraud. It's mostly greed and a naive culture of getting free support/money with no hard work. That combined with total misunderstanding of finance or business in general..

There's tons of massive financial success in the community. (And it's not by being professionals.) I fully agree that the gashmius/materialistic values is our biggest problem, but is driven by financial success.

There are theives as well, and I'm sure some who borrow to live the lifestyle, but they can't be the majority.

Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others Getting this thread back on topic here... I feel like I should explain my strong interest in this credit card swiping ordeal (normally I have no interest in the 'Just schmooze' section) ...
#1- I'm not a victim, but I could have very well been one. I have opened plenty of credit cards in the past, and I have allowed others to swipe for me... I've dealt with ppl that I've trusted, but it has become quite clear that we can never trust anyone... (this got me thinking, maybe when @dan posts an exciting credit card sign up offer, he can add the link to his 'don't swipe recklessly for others' to keep on reminding others that's not the way to go...
#2- I have recently started a job in the credit repair line, and even before the BIG story broke, I personally heard from victims of other smaller cases and I was completely shocked, then came the next big case (the one that AT is representing) followed by the most disturbing case yet... !! (And there are many more disturbing cases slowly unfolding...) I have personally heard from so many young victims who are so confused and hurt... (Hence my interest in this discussion, and as you can tell I am no expert, I may have posted some dumb comments from time to time trying to make sense of this, but you guys are used to that already :) ...)
#3- As a result I felt compelled to take action and initiated the awareness ad campaign which B'H turned out to be a success. Lots of magazines were very quick and willing to print the ad in their paper free of charge!! (Look out for more ads printed this week in your local paper...)
#4- I would like to address my DDF name, which some of you were trying to determine my gender, I would have thought the name Chaya would make it pretty obvious... To keep this page on topic, I'll comment about that on another thread...

March 12, 2019, 05:04:53 PM
Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others
Thanks for that heartfelt post (and all the crazy work you put into the ads and actually getting them published).  I'm truly curious, you seem like such a nice person, did you let others swipe because you were maybe naive or felt that you were trying to help them or their business?  Were you excited about the extra points (or the money from selling them)?  As an outsider looking in (and a business owner), it's so hard for me to understand how people could have done this without understanding the risk and I really do want to hear your side.  A number of people on here kind of clearly weighed the risks, were making a killing selling points and rolled the dice (and even know seem like they wanna roll the dice to dispute to hopefully just get out of paying anything, even if it opens themselves up to criminal prosecution) and I don't consider them victims but more overly risky lenders.  It seems like you are coming from a different place and I would like to understand your perspective because I'm still trying to wrap my mind around not only this behavior but the huge scale of it.

Iím in touch with a few victims. They did not expect the risks. It came as a massive shock to them. The people I know are very savvy and intelligent which makes this all the more mind-boggling. I think that there is a certain denial when you can use the extra money and you really donít want to think about the downside. You close your eyes, let them swipe your card and you sell the points. Then you rinse and repeat. Itís an extra $1500-$5000 a month depending on how much you swiped, and itís money that can go to pay insane tuition costs, mortgages, rent etc.

I should also point out that these merchants have been around for many years and gave off the impression that they had a solid business with plenty of revolving cash. Nobody thought too deeply into it or asked too many questions.

March 12, 2019, 07:48:21 PM
Re: PSA: Don't swipe recklessly for others I should point out that after speaking to a number of victims, it's absolutely clear to me that the merchants are criminals. They are רוצחים. I don't care how many times people who worked for them say that they had good intentions. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. At the end, these people knowingly schemed and conspired to swipe millions of dollars from unsuspecting cardholders

I'm absolutely sickened by the damage this is doing. The financial toll is devastating, but that's only the beginning. There is a huge psychological toll this is taking on the victims. People are unsure what to do, where to turn to, what action to take and what will happen. Even good lawyers can only help you so much. You have parents of large families, you have kollel yungerleit, you have bochurim of shidduch age that all now face the prospect of bankruptcy.

Re: Paris Master Thread
I'm planning a 3 day trip to Paris and have a few questions, any help would be very appreciated! (Just a couple, no children)

1) I want to do top of Arc de Triomphe at sunset, but have no patience climbing the steps. Any DPís how to get into the elevator, which is officially only for handicapped?

2) Any Chabad/Heimish Shul with a Mikvah and 8ish - 9ish Shachris?

3) The PH seems to be the rage. However, Hyatt now has "Small Luxury Hotels of the World", and there is a Hotel called "Grand Powers" which seems to be way better than PH in luxury and location. Also the "Le Narcisse Blanc H‘TEL & Spa" looks better than PH. Anyone stayed here/knows about the experience? Or is PH really the holy grail and I'm just being blinded by TripAdvisor...

4) I like renting cars in European cities. I am landing at ORY and leaving CDG. Is there a one way rental fee? Or is it like NYC where they don't charge one way fees airport-to-airport?

5) I have 2 mornings, where I am eating breakfast, top 2 CY places?

6) Seems like Kavod is only Glatt option this summer, correct?

7) I have patience for only one art museum. Louvre or Orsay? (Don't feel a need to tick off Mona Lisa, but want the better overall experience)

1. Not that many steps.
2. 49 rue petit 75019.
4. No (mind the transmission though). -Edited
6. Where you bring that from? Many more
7. Orsay definitely. No line and not too crowded.

Local Pest Control company for ant infestation?

Putting out a bunch of Terro Liquid ant traps and swapping them out for fresh ones every few days may do the job but it takes time. The ants stream to them by the dozen and bring poison back to the rest of the nest. I think it took a couple of weeks to take care of a heavy ant infestation if I remember correctly.

Re: United MileagePlus Explorer Card
My AF hit. HUCA'd 4 times, no retention at all. Can I downgrade to a free card? If yes, will it add to my 5/24, and do I lose the 2 Club passes?
You can downgrade to free card,  won't add to 5/24,

Sareden Halavi (not the parev one)
Chez akol is not far from sareden but just cheap and not such a clean place. They do have a larger seating area. Sareden is way better.

Breakfast just at Jerusalem Pizza?

Soul Cafe in West Bloomfield is great.  There is also Dunkin donuts in Oak Park.
