Re: Amsterdam Master Thread I concede that a TR will not be forthcoming so I wrote up a couple brief lines about my quick trip to Amsterdam a couple days ago.

Getting around.
Walk, its beautiful.
There are car lanes in the bike paths.
Taxis drivers drive cars, cool people drive Vespas, everyone else rides a bike.
Taxis from the airport are a thieving 50€ each way. Avoid the highway robbery and pre-book for a third of that.

Andaz Hotel.
Wonderfully quirky, from the most unconventionally designed hotels I have been in.
I would rate it a minimum 8/10. Only negative I had was lack of view.
Great Central location, 20 min from the airport and 5-20 minute walk to all activities and attractions.

Food.
Pizza and Co is a pizza store, its a pizza store with good pizza, but it's a pizza store, it also doesn't take CC so it's a decent pizza store that doesn't take CC.
HaBaron is right next door to the pizza store and the small kosher grocery. Small and basic menu but remarkably  phenomenal food. They take CC and charge for water.

Activities.
Rijksmuseum is a vast collection of art in a vast building with a vast amount of humans.  Even if you despise art, paintings, and history there is still enough to keep you occupied for at least 9 minutes - taking into account a 3 minute bathroom break.

Anne Frank House was underwhelming and over-hyped. Blows my mind that people wait on line for 3 hrs to get in there. I guess when the book is mandatory reading for every student worldwide it holds plants interest and is intriguing to some. Viewing the wraparound line was a better use of my time. Buy tickets in advance or skip it.

Portuguese Synagogue is nice for a quick visit. A lot of info packed in there.

Heineken Experience was surprisingly interesting and fun. It's the first time I remember that it actually took me the full recommended time (1 1/2 hrs) to walk through it all. it baffles my puny mind every time I go to an attraction where people took the time to research and determine they wanted to do it but not to pre-book tickets. It isn't rocket science.

There are boat tours on every corner, no need to prebook. Easier than booking a cab or ordering a gourmet stain of cannabis.

Overview.
Amsterdam
Is crowded like NYC - but not quite.
Locals are outgoing and  friendly like the Irish - but not quite.
Has canals and is romantically charming like Venice - but not quite.
Has quaint and picturesque designed streets and buildings like Prague - but not quite.
Overall a wonderful choice for a shortish vacation of one to 3 days. Unless your an art snob in which case you should only buy a one way ticket.

Re: AJK's Trip/Route Planning Thread

There were 150 gate lice.

As a human, I find this offensive.

Re: Hillary Clinton passes out at 09/11 memorial...
And she's not a young lady and she's had quite a rigorous schedule for the last year.  I think we can give her a break and let her rest at her daughters apartment after standing at a memorial for an hour and a half.
Excuse me Mr. Putin these negotiations have been going great and I really don't want WWIII but I need my nap. All this war talk is very tiring. I'll be back soon.

Re: Aurora, Storms, and Snowpants: An Icelandic Saga by Something Fishy, whYME, and ChAiM'l I just finished designing the Shutterfly photobook I make from every trip, so I figured I'll share it here. Maybe a person or two will find it mildly useful :P (layout ideas and so on).

This is a 73-page, 8x11 hardcover layflat book.

Re: Restricted areas of DDF
Lets hear the story.
Eta:
A written version of the story has been brought to my attention via the ddfra.

Reb Yonasan Eybeschutz (1690 - 1764) once took a walk with the priest in the city park. In their conversation, the priest asked, “Does it not say in your Torah "אחרי רבים להטות", that you should follow the majority? Since the Christians are the majority, why do you not follow us?”

Reb Yonasan says to him, “Please look toward the heavens and count the angels.”

"Are you out of your mind?" said the priest. "There are no angels.”

"I know,” said Reb Yonasan, "but work with me please. Look up and count the  angels.”

So the Rabbi and the priest stood there and gazed up at the sky ...

Seeing them looking up, a crowd slowly gathered around, and when they heard that the rabbi and the priest saw angels, they also began to "see" them. One sees six, the other sees eight, one fellow sees dancing angles, another sees sleeping angels.

After a few minutes, with a sizable crowd attracted and counting angels, Reb Yonasan took the priest aside and said to him:

"Between you and me, how many angels are there really?"

"Zero, of course", replied the priest.

"How can you possibly say that with certainty when such an impressive crowd is convinced they see the angels...Don't you follow the majority?"

Realizing the point, the priest replied, “But you Jews also follow blindly, you follow the Rabbis regardless!”

Reb Yonasan invited him to attend his shul services that Shabbos.

When the time came for the Haftara, Reb Yonasan announced that this week they were going to lain a completely different random Haftara. This ignited a huge uproar in Shul.

"Am I not the Rov?" he asked the mispallelim.

But the commotion only grew.

Reb Yonasan motioned to the priest as if to say, "I rest my case" and continued with the regular Haftara.

Re: America's Got Talent I personally dont think standard singing acts should have a place on this show. There are enough platforms dedicated to that.
