Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: Brazil Master Thread
« on: July 19, 2019, 05:06:01 PM »
Looking for some advice.

Will be spending 4 days in Buenos Aires in early December.  Flying from NYC.  Was going to go to Iguazu for 2 days and then continue on to Rio for 3 days to get some beach-time in.  DW is a bit concerned by the Yellow Fever outbreak in Brazil and by the fact that she should heard that Rio is "dangerous". As an alternative to Rio, I was thinking of stopping in Panama on the way back up to NYC for 3 days.

1. Is Rio really more dangerous than other cities or does one just need to be vigilant, smart and avoid the "wrong" neighborhoods?

2. Where would I get a better beach vacation--Rio or Panama?

3. If I do go to Panama, is 3 days enough or should I cut out Iguazu to get a couple of additional days in Panama.

Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a good private driver that can take me round trip from Kiev to Uman?

Also, is there kosher food in Uman year-round?

Can someone please advise on the "latest and greatest " way to get the $200 airline credit?  I have used PGGM and MileagePlusX in the past, but a review of previous posts tells me that those methods don't work anymore.

Thanks!

Looking for a 3-4 day summer trip with DW, flying out of NYC. Would like to stay US or Can with a decent selection of kosher restaurants. Have already been to MIA, LAX, ORD, YUL, YYZ, YVR, BOS, LAS and SAN.

How long does it usually take to get the $200 credit?  I purchased SW GCs ($50 denominations) a little more than a week ago and have not yet received the credit (SW is my “choice” airline).

Planning to stay in the PH for a shabbos this summer.  Could anyone that stayed there shabbos please advise of any potential chillul shabbos issues that I should know about before booking (e.g., is the toilet in the room automatic, is it possible to get a low floor and access the lobby through a staircase, are the front doors automatic etc.). Any tips from someone that stayed there over shabbos would be much appreciated.

Anybody have issues with bringing in kosher food through Liberia airport?

Make sure all non-cooked food is stamped USDA where possible (i.e., meat and poultry) and all cooked food is vacuum packed. Don't bring anything with bones and no "fresh" fruits or vegetables.  Make sure all perishables are brought in a cooler or freezer bag. The customs guys want to see that nothing is potentially spoiled.

There is a big supermarket "Auto Mercado" like 20 min drive and they have a lot of basic kosher stuff. I even found in the freezer section frozen salmon with kof k hechsher

Thanks, good to know.  What is the story with sodas/soft drinks?  Do I need to stick to water or are there kosher soft drinks?

Are there any kosher products at all near the Andaz in Guanacaste?  Do any of the local groceries carry kosher products? Also do the drinks in Costa Rica have kosher symbols? For example, is a Coke kosher?

Outside of NYC, I've had success with Hertz Chabad CDP#2027409.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Renting from LAX...

Trying to set up a rental for a friend whose underage.... Anyone know current reliable methods for renting w/o underage fee. I know back in the day I used to use enterprise (BMG, Korbmans etc.) but they seem to be charging the underage fee for 21-24?

Yesterdays problem was Abuse by Rabbis. Todays problem: Abuse of Rabbis

Daas Torah has been severely cheapened. What a shame...
