Thanks. I am in Montana, but we will most likely leave from NYC as a majority of the group is there.

Hello All,

So granted we do not know what will happen between now and then with Corona, but we have a group of like 6-7 who would like to visit Ukraine/Israel starting on 4/25 for about a week. Maybe do US to Ukraine and then from there to Israel or the opposite on the way back.

We have around half a mil of each Amex MR points and Chase UR points.

Any idea how the best way to book this would be? Is it out of the realm of possibility to try for business class?

Yes. Indeed he has. It is very interesting to see it coming to public light now and especially the fact that they are mortgaging their futures on their FF programs.

Hopefully we will be reaping the benefits for years to come now as they will need to be super nice in order to win back business.

Very interesting and eye opening. The carriers are using their FF programs as collateral!

between this and your failed amex dispute you are having a tough week

Tell me about it. You donít even know the half.

They have some nice testimonials

Which of the 3 locations was it?

Edison was the main one although we were asked to visit the showroom in Fairfield I believe in order to see some stuff there. So itís just them all around but Edison is the main one.

Post the merchant here and they will have a one star rating in no time.

Wow. There are those that specialize in disputes... Though they normally charge around 30% of what they recover, plus a few k retainer.

Any links/phone numbers?

If they send it to collections it will be way worse for your credit than just having your cards closed.

How about settling with them? I have a credit monitoring service and already see 3 out of 5 accounts listed as closed and my credit has dipped a significant amount. I had a $30k credit line each on 2/5 accounts, 2 which were over $10K and the other $5k (the oldest card I have with chase). My utilization is ratio is through the roof right now. How much more will it hurt to settle with them?

Just looking for options. It sucks to be paying off a credit line thats now closed.

Short update.

Basically I got diddly squat from Amex. They assigned my case to some specialist in dispute resolution. She gathered all the evidence I had again and then took my story down again, then she did the same with the merchant. She then proceeded to set up some joint phone calls in which we all spoke, in turn, about what was going on and why I believed I should get a refund, and why they didn't etc. etc.

Anyway, on the call the person from the merchant agreed to give me $500 back. I was not LIVID; it was pennies compared to what I paid--but I maintained my composure on the call. Again, she agreed verbally, on a recording to give me $500 back. The Amex rep then told me to sit tight and let's see what would happen meanwhile, while she processed all of this and got some more people involved. It seemed as though the merchant started to budge so we might be able to finally get them to agree to give me my money back.

3 weeks later, when no refund or anything was processed, she called me to follow up and said it was odd and set up another call. This time the merchant rep told her that she DID NOT agree to $500, but she agreed to give UP TO $500 pending manager approval--AND the manager DID NOT approve. This was a complete and total lie from A to Z. The Amex rep called bullshit on her and told her "well listen I can go back and play the recording I know exactly what you said, don't try to deceive me."

The whole time throughout this process I kept pointing out how these people are DISHONEST but they know how to mask it very well and FINALLY the Amex rep saw what I was saying when they couldn't get out of their lie. I was thrilled and thought that wow I might actually get my money back now. The Amex rep was going to escalate this one level to see what they could do.

Fast forward to last week. The Amex rep calls me back and says, listen I know they are dishonest, and so we will credit you back the $500 as a good will gesture for being an Amex cardholder for over 20 years. This was a good will gesture on the part of Amex and the merchant would not be giving anything back. I was very confused and told her wait a minute, what about the whole rest of the amount, you can clearly see how this place was lying the whole time. Her answer was, we would like to give you more of a refund but unfortunately we cannot go against a merchant's refund policy and since she verbally committed to the $500 then that is what we can give you, all the rest I suggest you go to court. I tried hard to explain to my manager the situation but we are bound by the terms of the sale between you and the merchant.

So that's it. Meanwhile I approached two attorneys and told me that in order to litigate this, it would cost well in excess of $10K, so yeah thats not happening.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I went and left the place a bad yelp review and the merchant contacted me about it and was pretty mad and said you have no right to leave a negative review. I hung up in their face.

A quick update on my situation...

After days of getting the run around with them on the phone, I finally went into a branch locally and was able to get the banker there to help me. After a few phone calls he was able to tell me that the compliance department shut down my accounts because of 2 things. One of them was that stupid missed auto pay which in and of itself wouldn't have been a problem seeing as the account was in excellent standing. The other thing was that I made a domestic wire earlier last month from chase into an account that I own at another bank.

Apparently for some reason, the combination of both events set off a "Red Flag" and they decided after review that I am a "Risk." I am not sure exactly how I am a risk, seeing as that my accounts were perfect, never missed payments, etc. and that the wire was going into another legitimate account at a legitimate bank that was owned by me. The banker asked me to provide proof of the details and transaction on that account which I did and which he sent to the compliance department but their answer came back as "at this time even after reviewing that we will not be re-opening the accounts."

Anyway, this is absolutely terrible. It is going to negatively impact my score tremendously. My question is where do I go from here. Since the damage is already done, what options do I have? For the balances that are currently unpaid, should I basically not pay them and let them go fly a kite or should I call them up to settle those balances? Is there any downside to me just not paying them? I'm basically fuming mad at them right now.  >:(

The likely trigger. And it's bad news, in afraid.

How bad? Is there no shot of getting the to re-open those accounts?

I've been with them for over a decade and have had minimal issues in 10+ years and never missed any payment ever. Might have gotta a couple in after the due date but never ever had a payment be later than lets say 2-3 days.

Returned payment is a massive red flag/trigger for all cards.

Thanks Dan. Maybe thats what it is, but why would do they do something so severe? Its not like it was a chronic problem. It was only twice in however many years I had the account. And why close all but 1 account if only 1 account had the issue?

Anything I can do right now? Is anyone ever successful in getting them to undo this?
