just a DP: card application was declined...not for too many recent apps, but too many recent cancellations!  I've only had 2 closed accounts in the past year, one last month and one in february.  No recon available, was told to try again in a few months to a year

wait it out or call in?

I'm impatient so I called in to try to get it approved, which it was after 5 minutes on the phone.

Business card automated system says. "status not available give 30 days from when you applied.....
What does this mean? Positive or negative

I got this too last week. I called recon and they just had to verify some stuff on their end (without asking me any questions about my business) and they ended up approving it.  So, I was agree with it being positive.

Credit Cards / Re: Amex Purchase Protection
« on: July 10, 2019, 03:47:49 PM »
Amex (Hilton card) denied my claim as defective items are not covered. I appealed but no cigar. My wife found the back of an earring broken in 2 pieces stuck in the back of her ear, but the stud in the front piece was gone. The purchased occurred just 4 days before.

Lost items are also not covered. I remember a purchase protection tv ad where a newly purchased hat got blown away into a river, I wonder if that would be denied as well.

what do you mean lost items are not covered?

From the PP terms: Covered Incident means the loss or theft of, or damage, whether by accident or vandalism, to any one item of
property purchased worldwide as a gift or for personal or business use and charged to Your Account

I'm getting a little confused with the Excursionist Perk. I've used it successfully before but this if the first time I'm trying to use it for South America. I'm looking at
SEA - CUZ, CUZ - LIM, LIM - SEA. The CUZ - LIM isn't showing up as 0 points, instead biz class is 20k pts.
Anything I'm doing wrong or that I'm missing? TIA!

How long did it take to get approved?

This was back in 2017, but it took 7 days after sending in the documents the same day I applied.

She's held Barclay cards in the past.

I had to do the same for my 2nd Arrival card

I'm renting from Hertz in Norway this May and need the car for just over 6 days.  The 7 day weekly rate is cheaper than the 6 day rate, but if I book the 7 day rental, will I be charged for an early return by ~20 hours? Does it matter if I prepay now versus pay at the counter?  I'm using the amex plat code for the rental which would give me the ~4 hr late return for a 6 day rental.

the 30k was a known thing all along.
Anyway, I guess this just shows that attaching to cat changing hotels strategy didn't work and we end up with what we paid for.
I have old cat 8 and cat 5 still booked.

Ah, thanks. I haven't followed along very closely, so that was a surprise to me, as well as the additional 60k points for downgrading.  A welcome surprise for sure.  I definitely gambled and attached the cert to a hotel right away.

Sort of just went through something similar. I purchased a 7night Cat8 (now post-merger cat5) package on August 17th 2018 right before the dead period for the merger, and attached it to a hotel.  This past few weeks, I cancelled the hotel reservation because my plans changed. The certificate went back to my account with an expiration date of 8/17/19-I asked if they could extend the expiration but was told they don't do that anymore now post-merger.

Here is my data point with the travel package:

I tried to rebook over the phone and the CSR didn't seem like he knew what he was doing and said I could book any category 8 hotel, so I booked a cat 6 (post-merger category), but the certificate didn't look like it was linked to that booking.  I called back a day later and they said there was a problem with the booking, cancelled it, then said they had to re-issue a new post-merger certificate that says its for the post-merger cat5.  In the process, they refunded me 30k marriott points since this new cat5 certificate was less expensive than the pre-merger cat8 one I purchased.  This new cat5 now has an expiration date of Feb 2020, and the CSR told me that if it gets close to the expiration, I can always call and have it extended.

Now when I tried to book with that certificate the cat5 hotel I wanted to book in Kauai wasn't available, but the cat4 one is, so I requested over the phone to book that.  This time when I chatted with the CSR, he said that he couldn't book a cat4 hotel with the cat5 certificate, so he had to reissue a new cat4 certificate, and in the process also refund me 60k Marriott points due the price discrepancy.

So now, I am +90k Marriott points in my account, and have a cat4 hotel booked.

Also, dining credit limited:

"$120 Dining Credit: You get $10 monthly dining credit available at Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Shake & Shack. Must enroll first and pay using Premier Rewards Gold card."

looks like they're slowly updating the benefits on the website.
