Deals/Deal Requests / Re: Amex $20 Sams Club Offer!

Why get the $50 scgc vs. amex $50 gift card. The amex is slightly more expensive but still a good deal. What am I missing?

I'm trying to figure out why people don't just Priceline the Grand Hyatt Kauai. I imagine those with hopes of getting upgraded to a suite want to stay away from that... but let's say there's no suites available for your dates anyway, is there really any reason NOT to use Name Your Own Price? Even cash & points works out to an equivalent of well over $300; Name Your Own Price can get it for significantly less than that. The GHK appears to be the only 4.5 star property that Priceline has on the island; should be a slam-dunk. The

1) Priceline somehow digging another random "4.5 star property" out of who-knows-where; and
2) The GHK knowing that you're a Priceline cheapo, and treating you like crap.

Any thoughts? I've read through the thread and see it being discussed multiple times, but no real conclusion...
ive stayed in ghk via priceline. But remeber the hotek will also charge you resort fees so figure out how much you are really saving via priceline. No, this hotel will not treat you like garbage. One of the nicest hotels ive stayed at with excellent service.

As of now it looks like next week won't see much rain there, am I right in assuming that would mean not so much mud?

DW and I are not athletes, but I think (read: hope) we're in good shape.

How much time would you say we'd need to do it at a decent pace?
I highly suggest you rent a kayak right near secret falls. The other places are a 40 minute + each way from the falls and a waste of time.
We did secret falls while it was muddy and my wife was pregnant 6 months. We took our time and enjoyed the challenge. It took us an hour to get to the falls and probably 35 minutes to get back down. You must wear tabbies or cheap water shoes. We ate lunch at the falls.

My only comments on your itinerary is on the Makaha Ridge Road.

Curious if mokellman did the path and what his thought are (or anyone else who took that path).
We did not do Makaha Ridge Road and happy I did miloli ridge road instead.
Miloli must be done with 4wd, roof off and windows down. It was probably my most adventurous drive ever. Don't go past the picnic tables if the road is wet, you probably will get stuck.

You have made and saved us so much money over the past few years. We may seem like we take it for granted by now, so I just want to let you know that we really appreciate it. From SBS, to price mistakes, to $399 tickets to Israel on United, Avios flights. And many many more. THANK YOU!

+100!!!!!

im not sure it bothers them. They already cap the max number of registrations so they know what their max expense is. Registration didnt fill till tonight so its not like all the aus prevented too many people from participating.
+1 sbs was a success this year

Do I need to do the 10 10.01 10.02 if I swipe the card or only if I put in numbers?
I had to becaue the machine kept saying duplicate transactions but it is probably due to being an old machine.  You don't have to though.

Swiping at my local grocery 10.00 10.01 10.02 alternating cards but the machine keeps freezing.  Has anyone else had that or is it the store?

This is my experience with serve AU
I have multiple AU from multiple siblings. I had to create a new serve account for each subaccount. The serve account username is the one you used when signining up the authorized user. I called serve, they emailed me a link and then they activiated the card.
I tried signing up my serve card for SBS prior to the above and I would get the following message, "Due to some technical problem page can not be displayed."
However, after activiating the AU serve cards, I was able to successfully register them for SBS.

To register all my cards I used firefox with Autofill forms 1.0.2 add on. I put in my information into the add on and then on the SBS page I hit alt+j

So originally this island was the one asking me to come and visit Hawaii :) But as I started researching all the attractions I saw that the highlight on this island is the helicopter tour, and as my wife is slightly claustrophobic that didn't look like the best idea so I switched to Maui. Now that the hotel situation on Maui doesn't look too promising I'm considering switching back. Would that be like going to Paris and missing the Eiffel Tower?

Don't know about eiffel tower but you should still consider kauai. It's like botanical gardens on steroids.

Ya even used my kids.....just took my whole family's lol, wasent any problem
Lol. You went to register or customer service.  I had to go to customer service becaue they were out of cards on the floor.

You are funny. Unless there is hard data this will not work conventional wisdom says it will.
from frequent miler
"Reload Anywhere (in the US)
I know Iíve answered this before, but I keep getting questions about this.  YES, if you (or a friend) buy a temporary card at a participating Target store, you can reload it at any Target store in the US.  Note though that some stores in North Carolina seem to be having technical difficulties with both the purchase and reload of cards."
