Going SF next week and staying near Union Square. We were planning on Shabbos meals at Chabad but a friend just told me it’s not such a safe area and he wouldn’t walk around there at night. Apparently you have to step over s lot of  homeless people. Any truth to that? Are they more and less safe routes to take?

Any ideas on avoiding surcharges for returning a car to a different location? I want to rent a car to drive the Pacific Coast Highway from SF to LA. Looking for a one way rental for 4 days. If I pick up and return in SF I get prices in the $160 range. But if I return in LA, it jumps to over $1000! Any ideas?
