Wow what would make you want to close a card that you had for 40 years?
He should have closed it 35 years ago.

he should be able to get retention worth more than the $100 increase plus the uber credits
I showed him how to use uber credits for uber eats about 8 months ago. He hasn't used it since. He won't max out the travel credit either and he never uses Amex offers therefore even spending $95 a year would be a waste.

New questions

This is his only Amex card. Can I cancel it the same day as applying for a new card (assuming it is approved immediately) and not lose my MR?
Can I use the travel credit and uber credit on the day it is cancelled and still receive the credit a few days later?

The card will be included in his AAOA until it falls off the report, no less then in 10 years.
But will it count as his oldest card for 10 years?

My friend has an Amex Platinum card that is almost 40 years old. It is by far his oldest card (by as much as 35 years). Now he wants to close or downgrade it.

It seems age of oldest account counts even more than AAoA. Does AAoA still include closed cards? Does age of oldest account include closed accounts?

If he downgrades it to keep the history he would have to pay $95 a year for many years until he can close it (when his other accounts will all be much older), correct?

Is my assessment right? Anyone have any advice?

TIA

The wiki and other sources mention that you can only transfer to a spouse but elsewhere it seems to say any member of your household.

1. What are the official terms?
2. Regardless of the answer to #1, is transferring to a non-spouse within the same household considered risky?

Credit Cards / Re: Balance Transfer Credit Card

AFAF I am looking to get a balance transfer card.

The card application page allows you to request a balance transfer during application process. Is  there any reason not to do this? What if you request an amount higher than the credit limit they want to give you? Will they decline or just do a smaller transfer?

(I am going with Bank Americard. The balance is with Amex so I can't do Everyday and I am not sure I should do a Chase app with high revolving balance.)

Ah so def not worth it. I want that jersey.  I'm working on getting someone so we'll have 7

The jersey is so overrated. You are not going to wear it ever again. Is it worth it to pay an extra $100+ for something to hang on your wall at home? (In 21 months since I played I haven't worn mine even once and the same applies to most of our team.)

If I would play this year I would definitely just buy a 2 player package. Unfortunately it is not a good week for me so I probably won't make it.

That being said, I know most people don't agree with me and would prefer the jersey even so.

Individual packages are available on Marriott

Looks like these sold out from Marriott. Still available through SPG.

Up In The Air / Re: Flying with infant
« on: April 25, 2018, 12:03:14 AM »
when booking an elal flight with a lap infant thru Chase UR portal can I book and add the infant later or do I have to do it right away (which would entail a phone call that I dont want to make right now.)

Did you ever get an answer? I have the same question.

When booking there is only one option for children under 2 which I am assuming is for a full seat. How do you add an lap infant during booking?

Credit Cards / Re: Credit Card Retention Bonuses

Just called for Personal Plat. and was offered one of three options.

1. $75 immediately plus another $75 after $1500 spend.
2. 5k points immediately plus another 15k after $3000 spend.
3. 10k points immediately.

I took number 2.

(This is the beginning of my second year, first retention bonus on this card.)

Monthly IME. (rounded up IME too)
So if today is the 30th day after my AF was charged there may be a big difference if I downgrade today vs downgrade tomorrow?

Amex downgrade for a prorated refund can still be done at any time (does not have to be within 30 days of AF), right?

Is the refund calculated by day or by month?

I'll need to bump this post in about 4 months, but if you're into planning ahead, buy yourself some $5 tickets to the Yankees game during C'H Pesach.
I'll bump it for you.

how long does it usually take to get an e gift card from cardpool? giftcardzen?
The first couple of times you buy from Cardpool it may take a while but afterwards it's usually within minutes. Giftcardzen has always been instantaneous for me.
