No plans to bid, but will definitely be watching the stream. This seems fun (at least more fun than work).

General Discussion / Re: Double take on Amazon...

I think I'm up 3 iPads (about $1000 worth). Its really not fair to these companies. If I'm missing an item i call and tell them and they (must) send a new one. But if i get an extra one i dont need to send it back.

I assure you the companies (esp.the amazons & apples) of the world are doing alright.

Ordered one, got a second that was supposed to go to the Georgia Ports Authority. Contacted Amazon about it and they said keep it. I ended up giving it to my dad for his birthday.

Edit: this was actually a USPS issue, the second ladder was actually addressed to Georgia. Several people had to really mess up for it to end up in Maryland.

Just Shmooze / Re: Mediterranean diet

Almost zero processed foods, diet is primarily whole grains, nuts, fruits, veggies, and fish.

No added sugar at all.
My wife and I switched to a (mostly) whole foods plant based diet several months ago, not too dissimilar from what you've described...fish and chicken each once a week (eggs, maybe twice  a week and beef twice a month approximately) but the rest of our diet is whole grains, nuts, fruits, veggies and loads of legumes. The only added sugars for us now are in the form of honey, dates or pure maple syrup (all of which are used sparingly). We also started buying organic and free range responsibly farmed meats - more to avoid the hormones used to raise animals than anything but the ethical considerations is a definite bonus.

We also started exercising regularly, so I can't draw a conclusion that the diet plays a role but I haven't felt as good as I do in many years. Everything from energy to cognition to aches and pains improved.

Most CC companies waive interest payments in many instances anyway.
For a lot of us this may be true - but this is a combination of knowing how to ask and rarely being in a position where any interest would be accrued anyway. Waived interest is far from the norm.

Card issues make their money primarily from interest and the interchange fee. It's the "losers" who pay these high interest fees who are paying for our First class flights and 5 Star hotels.
Do you think that the lower rates (and thus "losers" paying less) will effect the value of points though? We're already/still seeing significant devaluations across a lot of major programs.

Sanders and AOC are planning on introducing the Loan Shark Prevention Act establishing, among other things a 15% cap on credit card interest rates. Marketwatch has an interesting take on this that I hadn't considered, stating that this "could be the death knell for credit-card rewards programs."

I think death knell may be a bit strong and overly dramatic, but I could see significant devaluations happening across the board. I don't play the game nearly as intensively as most here, but I am a hobbyist so this piqued my interest and I'm curious how others may feel about the not-yet-proposed legislation and the effects it could (in theory) have on rewards programs.

Personally, I doubt the bill will pass in it's entirety (too many big bank lobbyists) but I wouldn't be surprised if some portion of it (namely, stricter regulations on loan sharks) did.

Tech Talk / Re: Excel Help and Problems

I'd use this: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/excel-for-windows-training-9bc05390-e94c-46af-a5b3-d7c22f6990bb?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

And linkedin learning if you have access. Once you have a basic idea of what can be done, start throwing together spreadsheets? Do you have a household budget? Stick it in excel and then google anything you want to do that you didn't previously learn.

I'm just saying that many people here might not realize that it is not a full build.

That wouldn't make it any less of a deal (if it were in fact a deal).

Friend's applying for the CSR, when he called the number in the wiki he hear the "declined" message (from the Wiki). He hit "0" to talk to a person who said "not a sufficient amount time has passed for proccessing, you'll hear back from us soon".

Other than HUCA & PITPACA, any suggestions on where he should go from here? Why would the person say that not a sufficient amount of time has passed for processing if the system auto-denied?
