I'm just gonna leave this here... (and hope the unfortunate "political Rav" conversation doesn't start up again)

Credit Cards / Apple Pay
« on: October 22, 2014, 04:49:29 PM »
As an iPhone user I was happy that I would be able to carry fewer cards in my wallet while still being able to pay at most places. As I've started loading my cards into Apple Pay I noticed that there is a non-publicized 8 card limit. It simply won't allow you to add another card after you get to 8. For now I still have seen nothing about this in any of Apple's own documentation.
For those of us in the points and miles world who actually use multiple cards in order to earn points in various categories, it is quite common to have more than 8 cards that you actually use in a given month.

Has anyone else had this experience?
While I do think that the convenience of contactless payment is great, and Apple getting into this game will only serve to help all the other players (softcard and google wallet), I am disappointed in this particular "feature". Hopefully they will remove the limit or at least explain why it is in place at all.

What do you all think?

If not on US metal, no A3 miles.

Oh well. I think that *Gold is probably worth the upcharge and the stopover, but it would have been nice to fly direct, cheaply, and earn it as well.

I wouldn't think so, no.
I'm wondering if there are any data points on this.
I am trying to get to Aegean Gold before March 30. I have a trip coming up that would get me there, but when I go to USAirways.com the cheapest flight BY FAR is one that is on AA metal. The site will let me put in my A3 number, but I don't know if that means that I will definitely get the miles.

Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Re: Eilat, Israel, Master Thread

Call up the hotel and ask them.
Or ask one of the Lurkers on FT.
That's what I was planning, but it never hurts to ask the hive mind :-)
As long as I'm consulting with the experts of DDF, can anyone in here suggest a good plan for going to Petra (just me and my wife)? My thought was to just book an organized tour (to avoid the annoyance of dealing with local taxis, changing too much money over to Jordanian Dinars, etc.), but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with going to Petra and could suggest either a tour operator or a specific plan to maximize what we can see. The Petra information that I've seen in my searches through DDF is pretty limited to people who have done it themselves (no tour) and people who have done it from Amman.

As always, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just booked a shabbos at the Le Meridien Eilat in late January on points. The website initially said the hotel was closed for renovations from January 9, but suddenly this morning there was availability so I booked.
Does anyone know if the fact that availability opened up means that the hotel will be open and functioning normally at that time? Or should I be expecting some sort of reduced functioning?
If anyone here has some insights on this, they'd be greatly appreciated (does DDF have Starwood Lurkers yet?).

With the merger apparently going through in December, do we have a timetable when you will no longer be able to credit the flights to Star Alliance partners? I am flying in late January and my Aegean ff# is on the reservation already. I would love to get the mileage necessary to earn Aegean gold status, but am now uncertain as to whether it will credit properly.
Does anyone here have any thought on this?

Just to update, it took almost 24 hours to go through, but I was finally able to transfer the 50K back to my own account, and the final transaction just went through this morning so in the end this worked out.

Tried for someone last night and nothing happened.
When I called today they told me it could take up to 72 hours to process, but NOWHERE on their site does it say that. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that it should go through by later today. They told me this 5 hours ago and it still hasn't gone through. Hopefully I"m not stuck losing all of the miles I had in my account because of this...

I tried to transfer to my wife's account last night and got the confirmation page, but nothing has gone through, and I can't transfer back from her to me until the transaction clears. Has anyone else had issues with the transaction not going through immediately?

I am still looking for data points as to whether people skipping the flight to YYZ will get partner credit. I believe the earliest flights available in this deal were in November (although if I'm wrong and people were already able to take some of those flights, please correct me), so I assume we'll have to wait until mid-to-late November for the brave individuals who chance it to educate the rest of us.

I am actually wondering the same thing. I have a flight coming up in November TLV-JFK via VIE.
Did you already fly, and if so, what was your experience?

Please share.

After playing with it a little bit more, I am convinced that it ISN'T the best (with AA's month-long view and ability to search only non-stops being more useful tools, among others) but it has made searching on BA's site MUCH more user-friendly.

It looks like you no longer have to "trick" BA.com into finding you partner availability when booking for Avios.
This morning I looked for flights from New York to Chicago and instead of making me jump through the normal hoops it just showed a newly redesigned page that showed no availability on BA and automatically showed me availability on American.

I tested this out NYC to Hong Kong, and even on a day with BA availability, it showed me a JAL flight right below that.

I've attached partial screencaps of each for your viewing pleasure.

This improvement has just made BA.com my number one airline site for finding OneWorld award availability.

Up In The Air / NYC-OGG 486 all in (Dates in November)
« on: September 19, 2012, 07:22:05 PM »
I'm finding $486 Round trip NYC-OGG on AA for 10-15 day trips (sample dates 11/12 - 11/22, 11/15 - 11/28, 11/12 - 11/27 and more).
1 stop on each leg (I've seen either DFW or LAX).

This is one of the best prices I have ever seen for getting to Maui, and someone with more mileage run experience than myslef can figure out if it is worth it just for a mileage run.
