Any thoughts re using Uber to get from MIA to MB? Trying to avoid the hassle of car rental...
Thanks.
Done all the time. Usually more convenient and more economical.

What am I missing here? Every blogger and their mother is going on about how VS for ANA is one of the best deals on the planet, but as best as I can tell VS charges more than ANA themselves... East coast to NRT in J for example is 95k VS, but only 75k ANA.

Xfer bonuses aside, what the deal here?
Is the 75k ANA RT?

Trip Reports / Re: 36 Hours In Havana, Cuba

What is the current requirement for flying there? People-to-people travel is not on the "accepted reasons" to travel there now although "Support for Cuban People" still is. Did you have to supply proof of that in order to obtain the visa? Is it recommended to travel via a transit country instead?
You do not need to supply proof to obtain the Visa under Support for Cuban People.

OK, updated to address these concerns. Still miss Monday evening safari, but seems like there's no alternative there unless I'm missing something. I also can't find any way from Vic Falls to HDS without an overnight, so need to figure out how to get from MQP to HDS area as it seems like Kings Camp only offers transfers from HDS.

Su CLE-EWR 1:14pm-2:58pm

Su EWR-CPT 8:30pm-5pm+1
4 nights in Cape Town (Stay at ?)
Fr CPT-JNB 730am-925am
2 nights in Joburg (Stay at Genesis hotel?)
Su JNB-VFA 1050am-1225pm
1 night in Vic Falls (Stay at ?)
Mo LVI-MQP 205pm-345pm
3 nights in the Kruger (Stay at King's camp?)
Th HDS-CPT 1:50pm-4:25pm
4:25 connection in Cape Town
Th CPT-EWR 8:50pm-5:45am+1
3:20 connection in Newark
Fr EWR-CLE 905am-1045am
Regarding hotel choice in CPT, I'm guessing after spending $$$ on Safari you'd want to minimize the damage for CPT. We stayed at 15 on Orange and enjoyed it. Rooms are pretty big and at 25k Marriott points it is a pretty good deal.

It is a 5-10 minute walk from the Jewish Museum and Cafe Riteve.

Are there one-way rentals available?
Yes. I rented MQP-SZK.

You could take the long way from MQP to kings Camp by self driving in Kruger. That way you only check in on Tuesday and get all 4 game drives you paid for + the self driving Kruger experience.

That's essentially what I did, but with less driving as I stayed in Sabi Sands.

Amazing!!!
Anyone else have safari recommendations?
To make the most of your time there, a lodge in the Sabi Sands area, will probably require the least amount of in/out travel time and barring other factors, I'd look for a lodge near a river as you'll probably see more wildlife there (you might see hippos as well).

Looks great. Just note that if you plan on staying at a private reserve, you'll miss the evening game drive on Monday and morning game drive on Thursday.

@Dan, I agree that you don't need more than 5 game drives when on safari. Most places have check in around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, a game drive that evening, a game drive in the morning and a game drive in the evening, and one more game drive the morning you check out. That way if you spend two nights you get 5 game drives in. I haven't been to Vic Falls, but in terms of game drives I don't believe you need that much time. Now if you wanted to do self driving on Safari, that's a whole separate ball game and something that some people don't like as much because they can't find all the animals. I would highly suggest going with a group.

In terms of the time of year to go, the summer is quite rainy north of Jo'burg where most of the safaris are. If you go in the winter--June, July, or August--it's very dry up there. The benefit of the dryness is that the animals are searching for water and moving around a lot. It's also cold in the winter, so most of the animals are moving around to keep warm and are not staying in the shade to get out of the sun.
That actually comes out to 4 game drives. After doing that (2 nights / 4 game drives) + half a day self driving in Kruger, I feel like a third night (6 game drives) would've been the perfect amount of time for safari. It also gives you some buffer in case you need to skip a game drive due to bad weather.
