Tech Talk / experiencing static on my cellphone in 11225
« on: December 28, 2011, 12:56:03 PM »
I've been getting lots of static this past month when calling from my Sprint cellphone.
Although I didn't keep a journal, I'm pretty sure this generally happens when calling landlines in my neighborhood.
Anyone else experience this?

Is there anything I can do to better the situation? I have a htc hero with sprint.

How late can you deposit a check and count it as last years income?

My employer is a little backed up and is paying me a bit late, hence the check for the last two weeks of 2011 will be deposited sometime January 2012.
In my case I would benefit from reporting that income as 2011 income.

How does it work? Anything that wasn't deposited by Dec 31 counts as 2012?

Additional info: My boss writes me checks and I just get a 1099 at the end of the year. To him I am an "office expense" so he doesn't pay taxes on my salary.
Location: NY.

Credit Cards / Bottom line!!
« on: July 21, 2011, 12:27:29 AM »
Disclaimer: I did do quite a bit of research on the forums before posting and since the information is conflicting, i'm posting to get a clearer picture and the bottom line.

So what's the bottom line about closing down a credit card?

I've seen it mentioned that even a closed card "stays in the system" (if someone can please explain how/if it affects the credit differently that an active card in the system) for, I think it was, 10 years?

On the other hand, although it stays in the report, people advise to convert the card to a fee-free card (when applicable), rather than closing it.

I understand that the converting option is in order to keep the credit, but I would like to specifically address the length of credit (credit age) factor.

Management Book.
By Jack M. Kaplan, Anthony C. Warren - John Wiley & Sons (2009) - Paperback - 432 pages - ISBN 0470169699.

Does anyone own it and is interested in selling it or does anyone know where I can find it for the cheapest price?
I don't mind a used one.

Thanks in advance.

2) Leaving on an electric hot plate (110V-60Hz -400W), Shabbos "plateh" for the whole Shabbos.

General Discussion / Unemployment after giving birth.
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:29:56 PM »
My wife has been getting NYS unemployment benefits for a few months now.
She gave birth last week, and today she can certify another week of benefits.
The thing is that one of the certification questions is wethre she was ready, willing and able to work last week.
Well... ready and willing i guess yes, but able.. not really...
Will she have any problems if she claims her benefits like the usual?
Or will they realize that the same week she's claiming to have been able, really she gave birth and wasn't able?

Thanks in advance for your replies!
