Up In The Air / Chase Hybrid Points Flights Cancelled
« on: August 03, 2017, 08:45:43 PM »
I have had a flight canclled that I booked with chase hybrid points.  The United booking shows that it was paid with a mastercard (presumably Chase's).  Who/where do I contact for a refund of points or cash... I've already contacted United and tried to get them to refund me NOT to the form of payment... They say they cannot do that.

I'm trying to figure out this situation and it occurred to me that the fine folks of DDF will surely know the answer to my dilemma (or will at least have opinions.. strong ones).  So here goes:

My sister and husband are leaving the country for 5 months starting August 1st.  Unfortunately, they have a recently obtained leased car (Ford).  Fortunately (perhaps) my wife and I were just about to buy a car.   The question becomes how we achieve this "borrow" completely legally and above board at the lowest possible cost.

Things we cannot do:

List my wife or myself as a household driver - we do not live with my sister, if we get kill a person in the next 5mo. i'd prefer not to be bankrupt.
Assume we cannot assign the lease (though I'm looking more into this) - it's very likely that this will be cost prohibitive for such a short period of time  if it's even allowed under the terms of my sister's lease.

So I guess the questions/options are:
Can my sister legally re-register her car at my house so that we can properly be included as household drivers? I know that the household driver part of that equation works but can you register your car at another residence that it will be parked at nightly?

Can you add a non-household driver to insurance policy, what companies allow this?

Suggestions? Does anyone here have experience with this?

Got an email this morning:

Boost your Miles balance

You can now boost your Award Miles balance by transferring your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to your Flying Blue account. The transfer rate could not be simpler: transfer 1, 000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points and get 1, 000 Flying Blue Award Miles!

I got it on the front page.  I'm rarely targeted too.

A few gas cards on special.  Also, one of my accounts targeted for 6% back ebay bucks for purchases $50 or more until 5/11.

I am planning a trip to Hawaii and Japan for January 2017.  I know this is a long way away but i wanted to see if anyone had any routing suggestions in addition to the two i thought of and will be searching for regularly.

Details - i have approx. 120k AA, 260k UR, 60k UA, 30k MR.  The trip is for 2 people, flying a premium product originating in NYC and going to HI (any island) and Tokyo.  We'd prefer to go to HI at the end and Japan first, but not steadfast on that if availability (or a better deal) dictates.  One additional wrinkle is that were probably going to go to Vancouver this fall, before the feature trip.

Heres what i came up with:

Option One - UA metal itinerary NYC to NRT with a free HNL stop on the way home.  260k UA.  Simple and cheap.. Doesnt incorporate YVR and im kinda tired of flying UA in J.

Option 2 - NYC to LAX somehow, LAX to NRT in SQ F, NRT to HNL on UA, HNL to EWR on UA booked w/SQ.  About 350-400k (depending on the class of NYC to LAX).  More expensive (both c+p), extra time... Also doesnt inc YVR, fly a product ive never experience.

Can i take a free stop on UA RT that originates in Asia (maybe take a later flight to Asia or Australia or Oceana since those regions combine with Asia?  I realize that would add another 130k UA (for Asia)... Doubt i could convince wife to add this if its even a workable option.

Please feel free to pick apart, suggest other options, point out where im missing some huge opportunity... If theres something im missing ill accept hints as well if you dont want to give away the farm... Just trying to get my creative juices jumpstarted.

Credit Cards / Gowallet Retired - Replacement Site Issues
« on: April 28, 2016, 08:37:28 AM »
I know many here don't register cards but there's gotta be some.  I do about the annual limit of 5x options using a combination of light ms and daily spending so I relied heavily on gowallet.  Is anyone else that used it experiencing serious issues with the replacement?  I cannot seem to sort the cards I have registered there which makes it wildly difficult to do my periodic "accounting."  I'm sure they're just working out the kinks, but wanted to check others experiences.
