Tech Talk / Surveillance camera recommendations
« on: July 16, 2018, 11:24:29 AM »
Iím hoping to get a basic indoor and outdoor security system for my home- maybe amazon will gave Good deals today. I already sawmsome posted on the main page.
Iím looking for something wireless or without major wiring. Any recommendations? Would the blink system dan posted fit the bill?

I booked hotel reservation with expedia and then called to cancel - unfortunately did not write the confirmation # but have telephone records and witnesses. Expedia charged me and when I disputed the charge they said I never called to cancel. I have reopened the claim numerous times with supervisors even but it keeps going the the same process of being sent to expedia, they claim I did not follow the cancellation policy and thus refuse the dispute. I would like to take this to higher up in Amex - looking for ideas or contact info

Credit Cards And Finance / points comparison
« on: December 12, 2012, 11:44:48 AM »
I booked a family member tickets using 200,000 united points of mine. They want to pay me back by selling points that they have.

they have:
85,000 ink blue
93,000 amex gold
114,000 *wood

which points would be of the same value to my 200,000?
should they transfer these points to airlines first to get more value?

Credit Cards And Finance / paying off student loan
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:31:31 PM »
This is an issue ive been dealing with for awhile but never thought of posting. I now saw so many helpful posts on another thread(digging out of debt) I decided to give a shot.

I took out a $30,000 student loan a number of years ago. I finished college 3 yrs ago and have been paying $420 monthly since. The interest is about 6%.
I have another 8 yrs til I pay off and cannot handle how much interest I will be shelling out and that I will finish the payments in so long. I do not have the money now to pay it off but I can keep up with the monthly payments. I know there must be a way to pay it off without such high interest by either doing 0% transfers... I dont really have the ideas but im assuming there must be a way to pay the same $420 but end sooner with less interest.
any ideas?

General Discussion / IRA's and taxes
« on: February 28, 2012, 12:05:48 AM »
As a couple with three kids filing jointly with only my income on the books, last yr I made about the perfect amt for maximum earned income credit and child rebates. this yr I made another 15,000 which is costing me about $6000 in rebates and credits!! I know that this is the way taxes work and the more you make the more you pay, but Im sure the pool of yiddishe kups can come up with some ideas to get around this!!
someone suggested to open an IRA for me and for my husband and that money will then be a tax deductible, and when I purchase my first house I will be able to withdraw it all. Anyone know more about this? would this bring my income down to help me get back my earned income credit and all? what would happen when I withdraw early - will I have to return the rebate money then and also pay taxes?
Any other legal ideas?

Up In The Air / How do i know which points to use?
« on: July 20, 2011, 01:18:56 PM »
although i have been a member for 3 years now - i am for the first time attempting to book an award ticket.
I have lots of point options (thanx to dan!) and want to know how to figure out which to use.
Im assuming I will save my starwoods for hotel stays, and since I fly very rarely  i should probably sell my my BA points, that leaves me with AA, continental, and MR - any difference? deals? ideas?
Im trying to book 3 tickets - 2 to LA from NY, and one from NY to Uman

havent yet seen a thread with my exact details ;) so here goes - we only have a couple of days starting late on a tue nite and have to be back by the next sun nite/mon morn. dont mind flying but it will prob get complicated since im leaving from catskills (no airport nearby). my main thing is kosher food - not just a shoprite, and were also not such major scenery fans. ive got aa, starwood, continental and ba miles.

all the very local places (ex RI, new hampshire...) it seems dont have kosher eateries - is that true?

Deals/Deal Requests / $150 gc to target for joining constellation energy
« on: October 12, 2010, 10:11:14 AM »
for all those who live in nj - i just signed up with an energy company called constellation energy - instead of JCP&L- the rate is cheaper than the ones JCP&L will be having for sure until april. the bill will still come from JCP&L just the energy supplier will change. in addition to saving on the bills there is a $150 gift card to target for signing up to a 30 month contract. the last 6 months you can opt out with no penalty, but the first 24 months theres a $150 charge - basically give back the gift card. If you move they need 30 day written notice and theres no penalty. for those who shop target anyways - seems theres nothing to lose!! for sure youll save on your bill for the next few months.
