Up In The Air / AA and UA cancel ice cream sundaes on UK to US routes
« on: July 02, 2018, 02:34:19 PM »
The CO2 shortage in the UK has disrupted dry ice manufacturing.  So no more ice cream on AA and UA flights departing UK.

F is getting chocolate mousse or brownies as an alternative.

But in coach...."In Premium Economy and Main Cabin we’ve replaced the mid-flight ice cream service with a Kit Kat bar".  Serious devaluation!

« on: June 14, 2018, 06:08:31 PM »
This will be the master thread about travel to the beautiful country of South Sudan, the newest country on Earth.

South Sudan is home to the 2nd largest wildlife migration on Earth.  Inside vast game reserves, one can find: elephants, topi, buffalo, giraffes, lions, chimpanzees, oryx, African Wild Dogs, red river hogs, giant river hogs and many other species.

General Discussion / EV and Plug In Hybrid owner question
« on: June 11, 2018, 12:50:54 PM »
For those of you who own or lease a BEV or PHEV-

Do you have an additional charger (or more correctly EVSE) in your garage or carport that you use OTHER than the 120volt/15amp EVSE that was supplied with the vehicle?

If so, what amperage?  Did you have an electrician install a breaker and line for it or did you use the dryer outlet?  Where did you purchase the affermarket EVSE?  Or did you purchase it from the auto dealer?

I have one and know intimately how they work so I l am not looking for information like that, I am interested in what other people have done.  An owners/user poll in essence.

Thanks for your replies

Credit Cards / Chase RR SUB posting
« on: December 20, 2017, 01:41:53 PM »
When will the SUB post to my Rapid Rewards account after meeting the minimum spending requirements?  Immediately, a couple days, or when the statement cuts?  Something different?

Trying to have the SUB post in 2018 to count towards a 2019 Companion Pass.

Thanks

Up In The Air / AA reducing pitch on 737 aircraft
« on: May 03, 2017, 04:54:41 PM »
AA is reducing the pitch in economy for their 737's down to 30", with three rows being only 29".

Here's the kicker, they are claiming that the 29" rows will not be part of Basic Economy fares.  Doesn't quite make sense why they wouldn't just make those the Basic Economy rows.

Credit Cards / Best Trip Cancellation Credit Card
« on: March 02, 2017, 01:10:25 PM »
My Dad is 82, and his long time "girlfriend" is in her mid-70's.  They take 3-4 trips a year to Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua or wherever else.

Lately, they obviously are both experiencing more and more health issues.

I am looking for a credit card that offers trip cancellation insurance in case one of them gets sick and they have to cancel the trip or delay the return home.  Hopefully an AF will be cheaper than just paying for trip insurance every time.

The sticky factor is they do not live together, so they do not meet the "domestic partner" requirement that seems to be common with all of the cancellation/interruption policies I see. (Unless I am reading these threads wrong).  And they do not really want to lie and claim a domestic partnership that doesn't exist by legal standards.

Is there a credit card that when party A makes a reservation for 2 or more people, that the trip cancellation benefits extend to everyone on the reservation regardless of the immediate family/domestic partner requirements?

TIA

JL is stepping up the capacity across to JFK and bringing F.

First is a new JFK-HND route.  It will be serviced with 777-300's with 4 class configuration.

Second, they are changing the JFK-NRT service to a 777-300 with 4 class configuration, but switching from 2 flights/day to 1.

Also changes to the HNL routes.

They are supposed to change the DFW-NRT route to a 777-300 with 4 class configuration but it hasn't materialized so far.

Up In The Air / AMEX Travel website issues
« on: January 18, 2017, 09:26:17 AM »
I've been trying to make a booking for two days and had nothing but problems with the AMEX Travel web portal.  From blue screens telling me Internal Error, to the MR points system being down.  I called in to their help desk and they advised me to pay with my card, use points to pay eventually and call in for my 50% rebate.

Then the website declined my payment, telling me my card or security code was invalid (my first ever AMEX decline is on their own website  >:(  )

The help desk eventually routed me to Platinum desk and I did a phone booking with a waived fee (I'd have gladly traded $39 bucks for getting 4 hours of my life back)

It's my first time using it for the 50% points rebate on my biz plat and for the first time in all my AMEX experiences I am wholly unimpressed.

Is the AMEX Travel portal normally this bad, or are they just having a system meltdown?
