This was inevitable....

http://www.britishairways.com/en-ca/executive-club/spending-avios/north-america-reward-flights

economy - From 4500 points to 7500
business - From 9000 point to 15000
first - Now 30000 points (this is a scam as there is no real first class but within the US it's considered first and on the exact same plane type from Canada it's considered business).

I've been flying AA out of LGA for years and always seem to end up in Concourse C where there is no AA lounge. Its usually not worth it to go through security at D to get to the lounge and then have to go through security again at C to board the flight

A few weeks ago, we found ourselves with two hours to go before our flight so we headed on over to D and got into the AA lounge with my platinum card (works for another few weeks). The agent noted my gate and informed me there is a service started a few months ago that will shuttle us directly to the gate without having to re-do security. 25 minutes before the flight a LGA employee met us in the lounge, directed us through the bowels of LGA out on to the tarmac where a shuttle bus drove around to C and let us into the secure area through another back-door. I thought that was pretty cool.

Make sure the front-desk agent is aware so she/he will tell you when to meet at the front desk.

Credit Cards / Downgrade Citi card - 50 days?
« on: October 13, 2013, 09:29:42 AM »
This may have been discussed elsewhere, didn't see anything.

I called Citi to downgrade 2 AA cards that just got hit with the annual fee to a no-fee card. They claim it will take 50 days as per 'regulations.' In the interim I need to pay the fee and it will be refunded once the downgrade goes through. Has anyone else experienced this?

On The Road / Worth using AA points for car rental?
« on: April 09, 2013, 02:11:37 PM »
I need a mini-van or full-size SUV from LGA for 5 days. Lowest price I found was from Enterprise using corporate accounts for $413 taxes-in.

Alternatively, I can use 5660 AA points at National for a total of 28,300 points + taxes. I'm assuming taxes will be about $100 based on the rates I'm seeing at National right now. So, 28,300 points is saving me about $300 at a benefit of $.016 a point. I know that's not great value but the rates I get with AA is far lower than the non-elite (or co-branded card rate) rate of 63,500 points so its kind of tempting.

Unless anyone has any better ideas on how to get a good rate from LGA. Didn't have much luck with Hertz but I'm not that well-versed with then (there's 86 pages on DDF!)

As RBC has had 1-2 times a year for many years, this promo is back on.

Bonus Transfer dates:
BA 50%: Nov 1, 2012 - Dec 31, 2012
AA 25%: Oct 15, 2012 - Nov 30, 2012

Minimum transfer 10k.

If you have non Avion RBC points (such as on a RBC US dollar card), but also have an RBC Avion card, you can transfer points into your Avion account. You cannot transfer points into a BA account in someone else's name and the country of your BA account must be Canada.

Up In The Air / No Kosher Meals on United in F from HNL?
« on: June 04, 2012, 01:30:52 PM »
I've been trying to confirm KSML from HNL to ORD in F but after being on hold for literally 45 minutes was told its not offered on that route. Only when the flight originates from the US mainland. Our outbound is from LAX where it is offered. Sounds a little crazy for an 8 hour flight.

Up In The Air / Status match to Alaska - easier than AA with same benefits
« on: November 03, 2011, 10:14:30 AM »
I used my Delta Silver Medallion status (earned through an Amex MR transfer promo) to attempt a status match with American. After 8 weeks I still haven't heard back from them. I tried the same thing with Alaska Airlines and had my MVP status in two days.

Effective Oct 27, 2011 AA and Alaska are honoring each other's elite status for most scenarios. That means you'll get free checked bags, preferred seat selection and priority check-in when flying AA even if you've never flown Alaska.

I emailed Alaska at mileage.plan@alaskaair.com with a current Skymiles screenshot.

Credit Cards / Where did the Amex Starwood 15k promo go?
« on: August 23, 2009, 10:32:04 AM »
On their website it only mentions the 10k signup, I can't seem to find anything about the spend $15k get 15k in points. Am I looking in the wrong place or has the promo expired?

In the past I've been able to apply 60-90 days apart. The last time I was approved for this card was over 90 days ago. Any ideas?

This is the email I received:

Why we're writing you
Thank you for applying for the Citi(R) Platinum Select(R) /
AAdvantage(R) World MasterCard(R) account.  Unfortunately, we
are unable to approve your request for the account at this
 time because of the following:

o   We have recently opened an account for you.  This
includes any of your accounts issued by Citibank (South
Dakota), N.A. such as Visa, MasterCard, store cards,
or gas cards.  We invite you to apply again after your
account has been open for at least a year.

Say I manage to spend $15k on the first day I have the card? Will I receive 25k Starpoints on my first statement (10k standard + 15k bonus)?

The official terms is:
"15,000 Starpoints will be credited to your account 8 to 12 weeks after you reach the spend threshold."

Naturally it makes a big difference if we intend to return the $15k after the bonus points are credited. Most of us would prefer not to front $15k.

Anyone have some actual experience with this?
