DDF DO Board / DDF DO: Alma Ata for 20 Av
« on: June 19, 2019, 11:54:39 PM »
Spend Chof Av in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan! All expenses paid except airfare. The airport you must fly in/out of is extremely remote with only a few flights per week on airlines which are not part of any alliance. If you're coming from Israel, it seems possible if you fly on Ural Airlines to ZIA in Moscow and then fly to KOV Kokshetau Airport in Kazakhstan. The only flight ZIA-KOV is Saturday Night/Sunday Morning at 12:50am so you would probably have to spend Shabbos in Moscow and then rush to the airport. The next flight out of KOV is Sunday at 8am.

With everything I just wrote above, how is it even possible to attend you're not flying private?

Can anyone send me a receipt for a purchase of >$20 on baggage fees, wi-fi, seat upgrades or in-cabin pet fees? I have Orbitz Platinum which gives me $50 in Orbucks as reimbursement for $50 of spend on baggage fees, wi-fi, seat upgrades and pet fees. I got $30 back already and don't want to lose the last $20. Open to ideas as well. TIA

There is a new study giving free genetic testing for the BRCA mutation that leads to breast cancer לא עלינו. Unfortunately, the mutation is very common in the Ashkenazi community. I asked the founder why no Sefardim and he said the mutation is thankfully not in that community due to historical factors. There is an online sign up process that takes a little under an hour, a visit to a Quest Diagnostics lab and then you hear your results from a Genetic Counselor working with the study or from your own Doctor. The person running the study is one of the preeminent cancer geneticists and oncologists in the world. Here is the link and description below:

Women and men with a BRCA gene mutation have a greater risk of developing several types of cancer.  Most of those at risk do not know that they carry a BRCA mutation.

The BFOR study provides genetic testing for common BRCA mutations for women and men of Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jewish ancestry, age 25 or older, in four U.S. metropolitan areas. 95% of American Jews are Ashkenazi.
