Up In The Air / Biz seat advice - KLM vs. AF vs. Delta One
« on: August 01, 2018, 12:22:20 PM »
I need to book a flight today and I have a few choices coming back to NY in business class (flight out is fixed due to being after Yom Tov). Any recommendations on quality of seat, service or KSML or alternatively one to avoid? I don't know much about these things and appreciate any thoughts.
My options are:
1) Air France @ CDG - looks to be A380-800
2) KLM @ AMS - 747-400 mixed configuration
3) Delta One - 767-300

I've been googling around and so many different reviews but hard to find right product

Deals/Deal Requests / Unused $
« on: January 09, 2017, 05:33:53 PM »
So years ago I took part in some deals here buying $15 certs for like $2 or $4. A bunch went unused when my local kosher restaurant closed. Not such a big deal. I recently got an email from allowing me to exchange the unused certificates for GCs at full price (ie they are now worth $15 at There don't seem to be any kosher restaurants in the NY area though and when I search 'kosher' on the site, it just seems to bring up a whole lotta junk and definitely non-kosher places (lobster direct - seriously?!).

This ever happen to anyone and were you able to buy products or figure out ways to use these certs?

I searched around and couldn't find a clear answer on this - I bought a ticket on United to fly back to NY and the flight got cancelled. They then put me on a Delta flight the next morning - I havent received mileage from either company yet. Should I be able to get from both or just United from whom I booked or just Delta from whom I flied?

Up In The Air / Does Donating Miles Extend Account Life?
« on: October 03, 2014, 10:16:07 AM »
A friend's United account is set to expire very shortly and wants to know the best way to extend the life. Worried that a mall purchase won't post in time. Obviously doesn't have the credit card. I know there are lots of options like a magazine purchase, but would donating 500 miles (the minimum) via United's site ( work?

Up In The Air / Lounge Access In Rome's Fiumicino Airport
« on: March 22, 2013, 09:26:44 AM »
Anyone been to the lounges there? I have a long stay in the airport and was thinking it might make sense to buy a day pass (if possible).

Any recommendations or ideas for buying access? Thanks.

Does Citi Reserve Hilton Report Credit Line On Credit Report?
I have heard mixed answers on this, but not from anyone who actually has the card. Go figure. I know someone with low overall limit who wants the Hilton status, but doesn't want score to get dinged because of too high utilization (if the hilton card doesnt report).

On The Road / Anyone have luck unlocking Cash & Points at hotels in Rome?
« on: November 07, 2012, 05:02:20 PM »
I am spending a few days in Rome after Pesach (early April) and unfortunately none of the SPG properties are offering cash and points redemptions for my dates. I would rather not pay with points as the return isnt as high, but they said there is nothing can do. Is that true? Does availability every open up? How far in advance?

I also have UR points, but there are don't appear to be any Hyatt's there. Any suggestions?

On The Road / Which Hotel?
« on: September 07, 2012, 11:56:16 AM »
Am heading to Paris with wife and child for a quick 2 day stopover trip. My original plan was to use 33K points for a suite at the Park Hyatt, but I have since learned a 3 day minimum stay is required to redeem for suites.

So now I will likely end up with a regular room. I also have a lot of SPG points and was considering the Westin Paris. Any recommendations between the 2 for a regular room?

Up In The Air / Is there any site that can do this?

Is there a travel website where I can enter my starting point and travel dates and find a list of available destinations by price?

Up In The Air / Weekend Layover
« on: January 10, 2012, 04:11:37 PM »
I am trying to fly to Israel but am planning on leaving on a Thursday. The indirect flights are cheapest, but dont get in before shabbos. I was thinking it would be nice to spend the weekend in one of those cities, but whenever I try to book a flight like that (laying over until Saturday night/Sunday) the price skyrockets from the original price. Is that normal? Is there a better way to search for this type of flight (right now trying multi-leg trips)?

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Credit Cards / Cash And Points
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:56:06 PM »
Is there any benefit to using a Starwood Amex when booking a hotel using cash and points? I am going to be in a foreign country and would prefer using a card with no foreign exchange fee. I know cash and point stays dont qualify as eligible stays but do you earn bonus points on the cash component?

Credit Cards / AMEX Blue
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:38:25 PM »
I have an AMEX Blue card (no annual fee) with over 100K points on it that I am not sure what to do with. I was tempted to close the card and focus on more useful cards (I have others like SPG Amex and Visa BA) but it is my longest held card by a significant number of years so I charge a small amount on it every month. Is there any valuable way to use these points? Can I upgrade the card and transfer the points to become real Amex points and not affect my credit history?
