Up In The Air / Whats the best VALUE for your miles? (discussion)
« on: February 09, 2015, 09:58:42 PM »
I wanted to see from DDF'ers where they think they get the most value out of their miles.
For example, going to europe off peak, taking a trip to alaska on singapore miles, or even using United plan-b to get a (mostly) first class ticket on the cheap. And all types of miles count: UR, MR, Starwood, UA, AA, sky pesos  ::),...

If you have any suggestions to add to the list, try and include where you went, which miles you used, which airline you flew, and how much it cost. Anything you think might help another DDF'er reconstruct your trip would be appreciated.

again, the point of this is to see where you get the most VALUE for your miles, not to show the cheapest vacation.

I'm not sure if this goes in general discussion or up in the air but I figured since this is only regarding awards, I'd put it here (moderators, please move if you feel it should...or if I missed the thread on this)

General Discussion / PIZZA: Worlds greatest authentic kosher pizza shops
« on: January 14, 2015, 11:09:49 PM »
To me, food can be an art. Like the differences in wine and different whiskeys. Or the different cuts of meat: some grilled, others smoked; some pulled and others firm. Or how about the difference between dried, dollar store  herbs versus fresh-from-the-garden-variety.
I haven't seen a thread about where to get really amazing pizza.
For me, most pizza shops just taste like ny frozen pizza. I'm not interested in that. My pizza's cheese should not be resting in the corner of my box when I get home from the shop because the seat is angled. And I shouldt be able to say that the canned sauce would've tasted better if they left it untouched.
It's like eating mcdonalds  (I can only imagine :) once you've already had prime ribeye steak. Or like taking Jim beam (in the plastic bottle) when you've experienced 30 year single malt, oak barrel whiskey.
For my pizza, I want the fresh ingredients, thin flavorful crust, different cheeses, and distinct toppings (no...ziti doesn't count). It all about the different flavors and how they compliment each other.

So to get the list started for pizza worth remembering:

With out a doubt, the number 1 pizza I've ever tasted was in Rome. Baghetto Milky, in my mind, hits top marks on all of the above. Thin simple crust, fresh hand made mozzarella, parmesan, rimano, and like 5 more cheeses, super fresh ingredients including basil, fish, and Jewish artichokes (for those who don't know,  Jewish artichokes are awesome. Another thread for another day), and probably to top it all off, really good prices. I took a to go pizza for 6 euros. Some of their specials are ussually around 10-12 eu and feed 2-3 people.  And I promise, I'm not a paid spokesman. I was In Rome for a total of 9 days in my life; I probably ate there 7 times. (Btw if you're there, go for the fresh pasta also)

For number 2 on my list (and to date it is my favorite AMERICAN pizza shop) is in Denver Colorado called Brooklyn kosher pizza (I think). Not as cheap but close to as good. Their slices are thicker for those who like that. What they did best is using their cheese. A couple different varieties and very well salted (probably the most underrated pizza topping,; pepper coming in second). I didn't try their plain so I can't comment on that but their specialty pies were extremely flavorful.

For those in New York who feel about pizza like I do (a good barometer would not be that you think j2 is good): please tell me where to look in New York. The two places I were told about are closed.

Up In The Air / Closing a United account
« on: November 26, 2014, 02:10:25 PM »
Hi there.

I hope there isn't a thread discussing this but I didn't see one so let me know if I should move this post.

I recently used a flight that United charged me too few miles. After I called to confirm that those miles would stay in my account, I used them to book a business class upgrade. After my flight, I saw that I owed 24k to United. They caught it several months after they made the mistake and wayyyy after I called to confirm I had the miles.
Now I'm locked out of my account and I opened a new one.
But I'm worried that when I get new miles (from my explorer bonus) they're gonna automatically merge my accounts and I'll loose all those points or if I go for another explorer again, I won't be able to merge them without merging all three.
Will R hey let me
Close my account over the phone or is there a html to close accounts?

On The Road / Easiest way to get SPG platinum
« on: May 01, 2014, 10:31:00 AM »
Hi, I checked a bunch of topics and didn't see one dedicated to first timers looking to get up to platinum (or other statuses to then use for matching)
What's the best, easiest, and or quickest way to spg platinum? The most helpful advice would be from starting with no statuses. For example, doing it through a cc signup...
Thanks for your help!

On The Road / Using a friends spg platinum account
« on: May 01, 2014, 09:45:34 AM »
I'm sorry if this is already a topic, please point me in the direction if it is...
I'm trying to get platinum status and someone has offered to let me use their plat status but we aren't related. What is the sure way if transferring the points?
Also, I have the hotels booked already, should I be worried that the space will be gone in the time it takes to transfer the points and reserve the rooms? I'll be going to Europe in peak season in like 2 months...

Tech Talk / Unlimited DATA on ATT???
« on: August 09, 2012, 10:04:22 AM »
HI there,
I joined ATT right after they switched to no unlimited plans.
Has anyone had success in convincing them to give you unlimited data? and how you did it?
I know they are able to do it because they allowed people to go back to it after the switch (When they offered people the new plan, people switched out of the grandfathered clause, and after a little time, some were allowed to go back.). Also, I know someone was able to get it when they put their SIM card into a iphone 1 (I think) and it required them to get full data and they honored that.

If anyone has been able to do this, please let me know. I NEVER have enough data (I get 2GB for 25$)

Thanks in advance!

Ive seen many deals by for flights to israel. (is vayama a reliable site) the best deal though was for 780$ on transaero. Reviews online say it's a pretty pathetic service but I need to know if they're reliable and secure. I'm on a really tight budget so should I risk it? All info would be great!
