Credit Cards / AmEx Small Business Saturday
« on: October 06, 2011, 09:38:34 PM »

The 2nd annual Small Business Saturday® is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses on the busiest shopping weekend of the year.

On November 26, pledge to shop small at your favorite local stores and fuel your local economy. When millions of Americans shop small, it could be huge.

Didn't see this posted here yet but figured it may be helpful to some of y'all...

If you opted out of the Total Equipment Protection (TEP) program for Sprint devices at the time of purchase, Sprint is having open enrollment for customers from 8/1 - 8/31. The cost is now $8/mo, per line of service for coverage. Sprint's TEP provides coverage against loss, theft, and damage.

Enroll at, or call 877-663-6250, or at any Sprint B&M store.

Supposedly I have heard Dan report that if you have a non 4G smartphone (i.e palm centro, etc.) and was grandfathered in before the $10/mo smartphone "tax" began, then if your phone is lost or damaged and you get it replaced through insurance you will not have to start paying that extra $10/mo whereas otherwise if you were to ever activate a new phone on that line even if its the same phone model you would have to start paying that $10/month. (Dan please correct me if I'm incorrect...)

Hope this is helpful to some of you!

Hey DDF'ers!!

Just figured I would share this with you all:

I just got off the phone with Sprint Account Services (Dial *2, then follow automated prompts to "Cancel Your Service") and due to some of the severe phone call isues that Sprint has been having recently especially in the NYC area they have decided to "bring back" an old add-on code that allows them to give you unlimited text messaging at $7.50 / month instead of the usual $20.  If you have been having issues with making and receiving calls then you can call them up and tell them that you would like unlimited text messaging because it is more convenient to text when calls are not going through.  You can tell them a friend of yours was offered unlimited for $7.50 and ask if maybe you can get that same deal as a courtesy for the trouble you've been having...

This is great for all you guys on old Sprint plans with either few text messages or are paying lots of money for unlimited.

Hope this helps!!

Set to be on Sale June 15th at Amazon and Bestbuy

Any predictions or thoughts on the release?

Anybody here have opinion on this deal?

Seems to me it's approx $50-$100 cheaper than the regular going price.  I dont know much about all the new flat screen technology, but am always looking for a good deal on a nice screen I could hook up to my comp through HDMI...

I am sure that this topic has probably been talked about within other threads, but I figured I would start a new thread so this info can be easily referenced.  Feel free to post links of posts within other threads that deal with the subject.

I currently have a gold card I opened almost a year ago and the platinum I opened a couple months ago, and I was thinking to go for round two for the 50k/100k bonuses. I can’t decide whether it is is better to close the old ones before applying for new ones.  Being that I have a lot of recent inquiries an instant approval is questionable.  So that means I will probably have to speak with AMEX credit dept. for reconsideration.  I would assume that both scenarios would be hard to explain to why they should approve me again.  If I just closed the cards then they will want to know why I just closed and am reapplying and if I have the cards open its kind of hard to explain why I need a second one.

I know some people on here have successfully gotten multiple Platinum Cards / Gold Cards and I just want to know if you could share your experiences and whether or not you closed the cards first or kept them opened and successfully had multiple cards of the same type simultaneously.

A friend of mind made a very cool Halacha Search website based on Google's search engine.

I think the idea is genius and extremely useful.

Check it out Here:

PS Share your thoughts below, I will be sending the website creator a link to this thread so possibly if anyone has any cool ideas for additions maybe he will take them under consideration

I am looking to rent this week for a month (or 4 weeks whichever is cheaper) until after Pesach. I am in Queens but willing to pick up from anywhere nearby (Bklyn, Long Island, etc.)

Dates 4/6 - 5/4 Flexible

The best rate I got was through Hertz using AMEX Platinum Discounts was $600.35 (after taxes and fees) for a Compact w/ Free Upgrade to Midsize

I have AAA, USAA, and AMEX Platinum and have checked many corporate codes on here, and this is the best I could get. (Actually best I got online was $677 and then I called Hertz CS and asked the Rep if he could do better and the $600 was the lowest he could get it)

Can anybody here beat that with any major rental company? Or anybody know any heimishe rental companies in NY area that I could get a better deal or at the very least a much nicer car?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Tech Talk / Sprint "Excessive Roaming" Termination
« on: March 24, 2011, 04:18:51 PM »
I got a letter from Sprint the other day stating that my line will be terminated effective April 11th due to excessive roaming.  (I use my phone a lot in the basement of my Yeshiva and there is no Sprint reception, only Verizon Roaming)

I got a warning letter from them a year ago, but they didnt give me anything since.  Now I called their "excessive roaming" department and they say that once the termination process is started they have no power to stop it.  The best they could offer me is to call them once my phone is terminated and they could try to resume it.  I doubt that will work, especially since I have an old retentions family plan which doesnt exist anymore and I would for sure lose all of my free add-ons (N/W 6pm, Free Data, Free 1000 texts, Free 5 #'s, Free 300 Bonus Mins)

I have had a couple conversations with them and they seem intelligent, just they said that that is how the system is programmed.  I even got an Airrave device and activated it and placde it on the first floor of the building (Airrave require GPS signal) directly above the room I use the most and did nothing to help. As I told them I have no desire to roam, but I do a lot of work in that room, and need to use my phone there.  If Verizon can get service down to the basement they should be able to as well.

If anyone has any advice or has had similar experience please share, I would much appreciate it. Time is of the essence here for me.

Thanks in advance,

Credit Cards / My First AMEX Platinum Billing Cycle Ended after 14 Days!!!!
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:23:53 PM »
I applied for the AMEX Platinum Card assuming that I would have at least a month before the annual fee hit, and then 30 days from then to decide whether or not I want to cancel the card.

I got approved for the card on Feb. 8th (got card on 10th I believe) but now my first bill just printed on Feb. 21st!!! On the bill it says "Days in Billing Period: 14" and it says I have until March 8th to pay the bill in full!!  This seems absolutely ridiculous to me, and I tried calling AMEX Platinum CS and they refused to help me at all.  I tried explaining to them that I assumed I would have at least a full month to "test-drive" the benefits to see if it's worthwhile paying the $450 and they were not helpful or understanding at all.  I understand that the fee is billed when first cycle closes, I just want them to give me at least a full 30 days on  that first cycle (not 14), is that too much to ask?

Anyone else have such an issue with their AMEX Platinum card??

Any suggestions for how to deal with it would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
