On The Road / Green Motion USA car rental?
« on: January 13, 2018, 10:44:50 PM »
Hi guys,

Has anyone ever heard of this car rental? (https://greenmotionusa.com) Their prices are half what other rentals are offering, but I've never heard of them and don' know whether to trust them.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Up In The Air / Name change $200 fee?
« on: February 12, 2015, 08:35:52 PM »
A few weeks ago I flew with AA miles a few times, on the third flight in one week with AA they decided to not let me past security because my name was spelled differently on the ticket than my ID. The agent at the desk scribbled the different spelling on my ticket, and told me that if it doesn't work I should come back and she'll give me a gate pass. That didn't work, but when I came back, for some reason, she didn't want/wasn't able to give me a gate pass, and said I'd need to pay for a name change. It was 20 minutes before the gate closed, and the last flight from EWR before the blizzard hit NY, so I just paid the $200 name change fee with my AA card and hoped I'll be able to resolve it no problem.

I contacted American Airlines, explaining my predicament, but they won't budge, here's the response I got from them.

Quote
Dear Mr. xxxxxxxxx:

Thank you for contacting American Airlines Customer Relations. Airline tickets are nontransferable and may only be used by the customer whose name is reflected on the paper or electronic ticket. The nontransferable restriction is clearly specified on each ticket.

To comply with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements, the full name of the passenger (as it appears on their government issued ID) must appear on the ticket.

However, we are aware that certain situations may arise which will test our policy. As a one-time exception, we made an allowances and processed the name change. Due to the costs we incur with each ticket we reissue, we apply a nonrefundable $200 change charge.

Should you have additional concerns regarding the screening process at an airport, the U.S. Department of Transportation has asked us to advise customers to contact the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) directly with feedback or issues. The TSA Consumer Response Center may be accessed toll-free at 1-866-289-9673 or you can use their convenient online customer contact form available at www.tsa.gov/contact.

Thanks for this opportunity to expound upon some of our policies and procedures with the hope that your future travel will proceed more smoothly. We look forward to welcoming you aboard again soon, and thank you for flying American.

What would you suggest I do next? Contact Citi AA? dispute the charge?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Tech Talk / How does carrier locking work?
« on: December 08, 2014, 02:59:17 PM »
I just bought the HTC Desire on BF when it was on sale for $29 only to realize that it's locked to Sprint prepaid. I'm trying to activate it on RingPlus but it's giving me errors. Does anyone know how this can be solved? does calling up sprint and asking nicely help? telling them I'm leaving the country? It's a pretty neat phone and much better than the Galaxy Victory my wife's been using till now.

I'm looking for a short getaway, 2-4 nights, but most cruises are over the weekend, I'm looking for something more like Sun/Mon to Wed/Thur. Does such a thing even exist?

Up In The Air / Southwest flights from NYC
« on: March 31, 2014, 03:50:43 PM »
So here I'm all excited about getting my companion pass, flying around the US for the next few years, and I'm searching for flights, first of all their search sucks, you can't search from all NY airports by butting in NYC as the code, and then, most places I wanted to go don't have direct flight. All have stops in places that are not even on the way. I tried searching for a list of cities they fly direct from my home turf, but couldn't find any, therefore I turn to you my friends.

To where does SW have direct short flights  (2-3 hours) from NYC? any nice vaca spots? or did I get my 110K SW points for nothing?

I got the silver Samsonite luggage set, it arrived today and the wife decided that she likes the blue one more. Anyone in Brooklyn interested in switching?

Just happened upon this site, what an amazing deal! I don't know how long this is going to last, but it's definitely worth if you're on a tight deadline trying to reach a spending limit...

Up In The Air / What are the chances of a saver award seat opening up?
« on: October 24, 2013, 01:39:00 AM »
I booked flights for my whole family with United, EWR-SFO-TUS, round trip for 25K with saver award. Since I didn't have enough points in one account, I booked one person separately in a different browser from my wife's account.
My account went through, but a few seconds after that, the last person's reservation didn't go through, that flight doesn't even show up anymore when I search, not even for a standard award or business seat.

I need to fly that specific date, and there aren't any other flights as of now with saver award availability. Do I wait and hope that something will open up on that flight, or should I scratch the whole thing and book us all for Standard award? I have 24 hours to cancel, and we need to fly together to take care of the kids.

TIA, hope I was clear enough.

BTW, date in question is 12/17.

Oh, and I know that YMMV (MMMV?) but I wan't to hear peoples experience, that if I have, say a 60 percent change if it clearing up, I'll take a change, and worst comes to worst, we'll fly separate and divide up the kids.

Credit Cards / Got a SPG hotel via Priceline but paid with Sapphire
« on: August 24, 2012, 01:16:41 AM »
I was bidding for a hotel in Jersey and got the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel for $75, since I didn't know I was going to get a Starwood hotel I had paid with my Sapphire card. Will I be able to get 3rd night free or anything else for being a SPG card holder, or is there a way for me to change the CC on file to SPG?

I'm new to this SPG business, so this might be a stupid question.
