Credit Cards / My credit score just dropped 160 Points!
« on: August 12, 2018, 10:57:30 PM »
So I have always (past 9 years that I have had credit) had a stellar score in the mid to upper 700s. Two months ago the score was at 814. I just checked now and its at 625! I am currently in the process of buying a house and this really scares me. Other than the mortgage companies hard pull, the only other negative thing would be a Capital One business card that reports to personal credit stupidly. It has a 25k limit and the cycle closed at 27k. 2k over the limit. Obviously thats not good but is that really enough to lower the score by so much? My total revolving personal credit is 110k so its around 22% utilization this one month. If i just pay the balance down now will the score shoot back up to before after the cycle closes?

Anyone have any experience like this?

Thanks

« on: March 20, 2014, 02:05:56 PM »
i have an iberia airlines flight booked in businnes class from jfk-mad leaves arrives mad around 10:30am. i have an elal tkt booked that night for 10:50 pm around 12hrs later. however the elal flight is a seperate reservation (availability for both flights didnt open at the same time so i booked each leg seperatley) and its in economy. Will iberia be able to link up the 2 reservations and transfer my bagge onto elal for me? and will they allow me to take the extra baggage from being in business all the way through despite elal being only economy? Thanks!

Up In The Air / united dealuation question
« on: December 09, 2013, 10:11:16 AM »
I wanna take a trip to isreal in first class on Lufthansa pesach time. the problem Is that lh doesn't allow united members to book 1rst class till 2 weeks before. and two weeks before, it will cost me nearly double the miles to take that trip thanks to the devaluation. so my question is can I book a flight in first now flying with united global first to fra and then change the carrier then, pesach time, to Lufthansa? will they look at that as a straight swap and not charge me the new more expensive rate or once I mess around will they require an additional 130k miles to change the airline to correspond w the new chart...anyone have any thoughts on this? thanks guys!

Up In The Air / US Airways routing question
« on: January 16, 2013, 04:16:06 PM »
I have read many times that us airways will book you crazy routings, their computers dont block any routing and the agents dont know geography, etc. My question is how extreme can you go? is it worth it to try booking a flight usa-europe stopping in australia? or to some wacky sounding town in central america- carribean and put a stop in tlv? how crazy a trip can i expect to be able to pull through them? (i dont want to spend time searching and then huca a million times if i have no chance in getting the stop in, say australia. So any help on what i can expect would be greatly appreciated) Thanks!

On The Road / renting a car in poland
« on: December 26, 2012, 04:42:29 PM »
I plan on being in warsaw for 24 hours on a stopover and i would like to rent a car. Officialy one needs an international driver license to rent a car in poland, however im currently in israel and unable to obtain one in time. Will they really ask for the idl and prevent me from renting the car wo it? does aybosy have any experience with this? And by the fact that the rental is just a single day does that make any difference? Thanks for any input

Credit Cards / Ultimate rewards point transfer
« on: November 12, 2012, 07:31:34 AM »
I've transferred my ultimate rewards points many times to various airlines w/o a problem. Although Chase has been known to shut down accounts for transferring to credit cards, but to my knowledge there haven't been issues with transferring from credit card to airline accounts. Recently, I attempted again to transfer points to an airline but right before the transfer a box popped up warning that transferring points to a third party may result in Chase shutting down the account. I don't know when this warning started appearing but definitely within the last month. Is this s/t I should be nervous about or is this just a standardized messege?

Up In The Air / What to do with baggage on long connections
« on: November 05, 2012, 08:02:34 AM »
I plan on booking a trip to israel with ua miles and putting in a couple close-to-24-hours connections to go touring. does anybody know what i could do with my bags during the stop? im assuming i cant have the airline hold them for any stop above 12 or so hours and these are over 20. Does anybody know of any european airports that have lockers for a couple of 50 lb suitcases? Or any other ideas so that i wont have to shlep 100lbs of baggage with me? Thanks for any input

Credit Cards / Additional Authorized Users
« on: October 31, 2012, 12:22:39 PM »
Ive noticed that when someone adds me as an authorized user to their credit card, i get that cc info in my credit score/report. How does the credit bureau know to match up my fathers authorized user (me) to being me and not some other guy named lamppost? All they ask for at chase is the name to put on the card, no ss or bday or anyhing like that. So how can they match it up to being me? (Its very annoying as some of the cards that im on have very high credit limits and i was previously a/a'd by case for having too much revolving credit...). Anyone have any insight into this? Thanks!

Up In The Air / Rebooking an airline ticket
« on: August 25, 2012, 03:09:04 PM »
I booked a round trip ticket in Dec. last year with United (Star Allaince) and I want to change the return date to a date past a year from the booking. One of the United agents did rebook the ticket for the date I wanted and I even got a confirmation number for the flight. But since the ticked was modified, I received a message that I have to contact United to reissue the ticket. I then called back a few times but no agent was willing to reissue the ticket because it was more than a year....
Does anyone know of a way to get United to reissue the ticket?

Up In The Air / connecting at dulles
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:05:31 PM »
Hi, ive got a flight from fra to msy and it connects through iad. Now from iad i can either take a flight that leaves 65 minuted after official arrival to continue on to my next stopover (iad-hsv-iah-msy) or 85 minutes later to ord-msy. the first option gets me in at 10:30 at night, the second at 11:50. My question is are these ridiculously short connecting times for an international transfer at dulles? Should i specifically go for the 85 minute tranfer despite the later arrival? How long does one need to transfer at iad (From lufthansa to united)? I will be in business class, does that make it better? Thanks!

Up In The Air / Hawaii connections
« on: June 11, 2012, 06:38:27 AM »
United allows 24 hr stopovers on a flight from Israel to the us. My question is does that include Hawaii? Could I fly from Israel to NYC with a connection in Hawaii for the same one way mileage rate or is that kind of routing too extreme? Thanks guys I appreciate all the feedback! Trying to see how crazy I can turn a simple trip into!

Up In The Air / Is 45 Minutes enough time to transfer at ZRH?
« on: June 09, 2012, 03:31:22 PM »
I want to book a flight that leaves TLV at 5am arrives in ZRH at 8:20 on Swiss. Then connect to LH flight leaving at 9:05 and arriving FRA at 10:10. I need to make a 1PM flight to IAD from FRA. Will this work or is it risky? And what are the chancces that my bags wont make the connection (different airlines 45min connection)? I will be in business does that make a difference? Thanks for any input!!
