Up In The Air / Iberia Flights to Israel
« on: July 30, 2018, 02:26:17 PM »
Which Iberia flights to Israel (with a stopover in Madrid or Barcelona) are operated by El Al?

The Iberia / El Al combination seems to be a very attractive option price-wise.

Credit Cards / Blackballed by Chase et al.
« on: June 22, 2016, 02:47:36 PM »
Back in 2008-09, after running up too much CC debt and then, becoming the victim of unforeseen unemployment, I had no choice but to negotiate discounted settlements with several of my CC issuers. My question is: How long will CC banks hold it against me? In particular, when I tried applying for a Chase CC a couple years ago I was summarily rejected. I'm wondering if now, after 8+ years, they are ready to accept me back. (I'd prefer not to apply if I know I will be rejected, so as to avoid a hard pull.)

Please reply if you have first-hand experience or other expert knowledge with Chase in particular or any other bank.

TIA.  :-\

From what I've read here, one of the advantages of using ANA miles to book United travel was that they did not add on hefty fuel surcharges for such flights. I spoke with customer service today regarding booking a flight to Israel and was told that it would cost 60,000 miles (great!) plus $487.07 in fees/charges (not so great). Maybe this was already reported in DDF, but ANA told me they started adding on fuel surcharges about a month ago.

With all that, what are the best options now for using United miles and Amex Membership Rewards to book flights to Israel?

Looking for the best award ticket options from NYC-TLV for Thanksgiving/Chanukah week. I need two tickets and have 80K miles on United and 88K points on AMEX. I've read much about Singapore Krisflyer and ANA as being good options to book on United. Any ideas will be appreciated!

Apologies for the cross-post.

Tech Talk / SIM cards for Israel
« on: November 09, 2012, 01:26:50 PM »
I've searched the existing forums but still need guidance on this.

I'll be traveling to Israel shortly for a 10-day trip. I am in the process of unlocking my iPhone 4S with Verizon which told me they have sent the unlock request to Apple and all I need to do is pop in the Israeli SIM card, finish the process using iTunes and I will be good to go. I prefer to be able to get the SIM card before I leave and am having a bear of a time finding the best SIM card seller etc.
My goal is to be able to turn my phone on when I land in Israel and be up and running.

I'm primarily interested in phone and SMS plans but curious to find relatively reasonably priced data plans too.

Any suggestions from forum members who have done this successfully?
