Up In The Air / What are my rights?

Hi,

I would like it if someone can tell me what my rights were regarding compensation for the following situation.
Note: I was traveling with my wife and 5 children, ages 12,10,7, and 3.5 twins

We had a 12pm flight from Chicago to JFK that got cancelled because of weather.
They automatically put us on a 430 PM flight to La Guardia (fyi, I specifically did NOT want to fly to La Guardia when I booked my flights. I paid extra for JFK because LGA is not an easy airport to deal with) but put us on standby flight 130 going to LGA. They put all 6 of our luggages on that stand by flight, saying worse case, if there's no room for us on the 130, at least we have seats on the 430 and our luggages will just wait for us for 3 hours in LGA.

When we tried getting on the flight, everyone refused to take us on since we were 7 people and we would not be sitting together. They didn't let us split up our seats (within the plane) because we had little children. So they adviced us to just stick it out until 430 which was OK with us. We didn't care too much.

Now we're on the 430 flight. 10 minutes before arrival, the Pilot says we're not able to land in LGA and we're landing in JFK (our original destination!!!!!) the problem is - OUR LUGGAGE was at LGA from the 130 standby flight!! Of course we were stuck on the plan for 2 hours because we didn't have a terminal or crew to bring the plane in.. by this time, it was 10pm

We went to baggage claim hoping for them to deliver our luggage to my dad's car, since he was waiting for us in LGA. They told us it's not possible because our luggage was in Boston since the 130 flight got diverted there. It was 12 am and they told us we'd get our luggage delivered the next day. We got an email saying they located our luggage and it would arrive Fri around 1pm. It came Shabbos night, 11 pm...

What is American Airlines suppose to give us, legally? We don't know what to ask for. I asked them for compensation, they said it was the "act of Gd" and they couldn't give us anything.

I booked the tickets on Sapphire Pref Card, they told me we'd get $100 per luggage per day for whatever American Airline doesn't pay.

Destination Guides And Trip Planning / Need ideas please

Hi,

I have a friend who is going through a tough time in his life right now. I am going to visit him in America, Gd willing, next month.  I feel it's important for him to take several days off of work and hope to give him a good time.

Can you DDFers give me some ideas?

Please have in mind while posting that there are certain limitations:

1) Something affordable. I can't spend so much money. Let's say about $300-$400 total (is that possible? I haven't been to America in a while...)
2) He doesn't want something that's more than a 4 hour drive (maybe 5) from Brooklyn (as that's the originating departure)
3) Something for about 3 days, 2 nights. Or something from Friday-Tues (we're observant, so have in mind shabbos..)
4) I have 80k IHG and 80k marriot points if that helps lodging...
5) Not looking for an amusement park. Something more relaxing, like site seeing, hikes, museums, etc.

Hi,

Not sure if this has been asked. I've tried finding the right thread but to no avail. Several years on DDF and sometimes I still feel like a newbie  :-[

Q is:  I buy so many things on Amazon, and prices are always going down which entitles me to a price-match-refund (which they give with no problems if it's within 7 days of receiving the item.) It happens often that items go drop $1-$3 which is significant in savings since I buy a lot.

What would YOU do if this happened? I feel dumb asking them for a few dollars refund, but I keep thinking it's dumb or cheap and every time I see another item going down in price and it's all adding up.

Hi,

I always see people asking different questions regarding ELAL, so I thought maybe we could have a MT? If there's already a thread like this, please move my post there. I couldn't find it.

Question: I booked a ticket months ago for my mom, but now with the situation, she's having reservations coming. How much does ELAL charge for canceling tickets? How far in advance do I need to cancel?  Don't want to cancel it yet, as I hope she changes her mind. And how much does it cost to reschedule a ticket? I remember it use to be once for free, but that's probably not the case anymore.

Hi,

I don't understand something with S&S...  It says you get 15% off if you have 5 items or more in your monthly delivery. So far, every time I do S&S on separate days (example: 2 items yesterday and 3 today...) it does NOT automatically give me 15% savings. It's only 5%

For my July order, I have 7 items but they were added in 3 different days and I am not getting the discount.

How does this S&S work? I only signed up for it last month, so I am new to this.

Also, my shipment is going out in 3 different days. That's darn annoying! And there's no option for me to change the dates to make them ship together. 

Why is S&S so good? Is it really better to get 5-15% off, more than getting your items within 2 days free shipping with prime?
