Credit Cards And Finance / Am I Dreaming?? Can I be this lucky?? :)
« on: October 16, 2012, 02:54:31 AM »
So I had a $270 collection on my credit report. I did a lengthy amount of research as to how to go about removing the negative mark from my credit report.
I recently opened a letter from a new collection agency (that I haven't dealt with previously) which says the following:
Quote
October 2, 2012

RE: Con Edison
Principal Due: $270.84
$.00 has been paid since placement

Dear Fefferkorn:

Your delinquent account has been turned over to this collection agency.

You are hereby notified that I.C. System will forward the account information to the national credit reporting agencies in your creditors name if you fail to fulfill the terms of your credit obligations. Of course, you will have the right then, as you do now, to inspect your credit file in accordance with federal law. I.C. System will not submit the account information to the national credit repoting agencies until the expiration of the time period described in the notice below.

Tear off bottom portion of this letter and return it with your payment.

If you would like to make a payment arrangement, or settle your account for 50% of the balance, please call us at 866/389-2027. If you choose to settle your account for 50% of the balance, Con Edison will update your credit record that you paid the account in full.

We are a debt collector attempting to collect a debt and any imformation obtained will be used for that purpose.

Sincerely,

Beth Brown
Manager

NOTICE
Unless you notify this office within 30 days after receiving this notice that you dispute the validity of this debt or any portion thereof, this office will assume this debt is valid. Etc..etc..

I Immediately logged into CreditKarma and, lo and behold, the negative report from the previous collection agency (VAN RU) is gone, GONE!
First of all, I would like to know if I can rely on CreditKarma for this, also I don't know if CreditKarma reflects all 3 credit bureaus... So can someone please tell me a reliable source where I can check my 3 credit reports from all 3 agencies for accurate information specifically about this issue to see if the negative report is REALLY gone?

Also, does anyone have advice as to how to follow this up quickly before the 30 days are up and make sure this does not get reported again? I'm not sure, based on the above mentioned letter, if the collection agency actually owns the debt or they are doing the job on behalf of ConEdison.. I don't really want to PUTPAC the CA as I hear it's not a good thing to do.
Anyone have any advice as to how to proceed?
I'm ready to pay 100% of the debt if I have the certainty that this won't get reported. If I can pay 50% or less, better  ;D (or is that some kind of trick from the CA? Weird that they just offer 50% off just like that without first hearing my response...)

Please please, let me hear you!

Credit Cards And Finance / Accepting credit cards FOR NON-BUSINESS
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:12:49 PM »
I am selling some stuff for a few thousand dollars and the only way the customer wants to buy is if he can pay with his credit card.

Aside for the system with the lowest possible fees, I am looking for a system that will be able to be used without problems and restrictions for personal use.
It will be under personal name and NOT A BUSINESS. (BTW does anyone know if the IRS will be on my case for a few transactions of a few thousand dollars each?).

Does anyone know or use something and can kindly share some info?
Thanks!

Credit Cards And Finance / Cuttoff day for spending threshold
« on: August 29, 2012, 03:01:01 AM »
What exactly is the cuttoff day for when CC companies say you have 3 months/6 months etc to spend X amt. and get the signup bonus?
3 months from when applied? approved? activated?
Any difference between Chase, Amex, Citi?

A question pertaining to this subject:
I currently have a Chase Sapphire application which was denied and I have 30 days to call Reconsideration to push it through. In the meantime I have other cards which I'm working on spending in order to get the signup bonus for those.
Should I call Chase as late as possible thereby buying myself time and making my 3 months to spend $3K expire LATER, or did my 3 months start already?

Up In The Air / Booked a "Mr." as Female
« on: August 15, 2012, 10:37:42 PM »
I just booked a ticket on AA metal for a male passenger out of a female BA account and, by default, it was set to female.
I forgot to change it to male and booked it that way.
Is he going to have an issue?
Flight is tomorrow so I'd appreciate whoever could answer this ASAP.
Thanks!!

Up In The Air / Upgreadable Fare Class Master Thread
« on: August 15, 2012, 01:18:08 PM »
Was thinking that it would be a great resource if we put together a round up of all upgreadable fare classes across all airlines (or the main one's at least).

For example I'm trying to purchase an upgreadable fare on United from EWR-HKG nonstop RT, all I can find in the system is class (W), (L) and (S) all non-upgreadable according to the rep, although that conflicts with this chart...
Could it be that fare class rules vary by route?
also I found this chart for AA.
Does anyone know if the above charts are accurate or where to find 100% accurate info?

On The Road / Booking kosher hotels with BA in Jerusalem
« on: August 05, 2012, 12:37:16 PM »
I am looking to book a hotel in Jerusalem using Avios but I don't know which ones have Shabbos meals and a good hechsher, can anyone please help me out?
Here is the list of hotels that come up on their site:

Jerusalem Gold Hotel.
Olive Tree- Royal Plaza.
St.George Landmark Hotel.
Crowne Plaza.
Grand Court.
LEV JERUSALEM.
JERUSALEM GATE.
MOUNT OF OLIVES.
Leonardo Hotel Jerusalem.
Ritz Hotel Jerusalem.
Leonardo Plaza Hotel Jerusalem.
Jerusalem Capitol Hotel.
Leonardo Inn Hotel Jerusalem.

PS. I didn't go all the way to the checkout page on BA, I'm wondering if what they quote in Avios is all they charge for the hotel or are there any hidden fees at the conclusion of the booking?

Credit Cards And Finance / Hyatt? Marriot? or Marriot Premier?

If you had to choose between one of these 3 Chase cards, which one would you go for and why?

I have a choice of getting proofs from a photographer but, on the other hand, I have DVD's with the original full quality photos on them.
Would they come out the same if I print them online myself or should I go with the photographer although he is more expensive?

Credit Cards And Finance / Chase "Leverage"
« on: April 25, 2012, 03:08:00 AM »
What's the difference between 1) closing a card with recon in order to move the CL to a new card or 2) closing a card but first moving the CL to an existing card before even applying and then using just that CL part from the already closed card which is now in an existing card to get the new card pushed through?

In both cases you end up with one closed card and the CL transferred over to a new card. Does one way work better than the other?

Credit Cards And Finance / Chase offer matching
« on: April 25, 2012, 01:18:36 AM »
I would like to SM Chase to match 3 offer on 3 different cards:

1) CO, already matched for 50K, going for 55K and $50 SC.

2) SP, from 50K to 75K

3) IB, from 50K to 60K

Is it advisable to SM for all three at the same time? Or better to wait for the response and only then SM for the next card?

As a side note, I got all 3 cards a little more than 3 months ago but willing to try my luck anyway.
