Credit Cards / Disputing closed old cc on Credit Report
« on: January 27, 2020, 11:03:48 PM »
Anyone have insight into how disputes work? I have a 7 year old closed cc still reporting on my credit report. The issue is that it was closed by the grantor for non use.

I applied for a card and they are using that old closed card against me.

If I dispute the card on my report will the bank try to fight to keep it on my report? It is a closed card in good standing with just that note. A negative account would fall off at 7 years. A good account falls off after 10 years. So would they not bother trying to prove that it should be on my report?

Or is it not how it works.

Credit Cards / Re: Amex F/R Master Thread

I have heard that amex been f/r very hard lately? Every other person I know got a f/r. Is this true? Should I be transferring out my points in anticipation?

I am gonna say something that may be a bit controversial and will get flack for this and will probably delete this comment, but here goes.

Dan as owner of Dan's Deals has an achrayus to post on DDMS or a general disclaimer by every cc post as he currently has for amex.

I live in the same orbit as people like Dan that do not look at a cc as free money, nor do I spend anything unless I have the cash or plan to pay it right away.

But there is a significant portion of people who have no handle and understanding of debt, and just max out cards. I know many who are deep in debt because they just charge their cc when they don't have enough income. Instead of financial discipline and following programs like Dave Ramsey, or working more hours they take the easy path and Max out cards.

This is not Dan's fault but the people read ddms and see the huge sign up bonuses and nice trips that Dan and others take using points and they get sucked into the cc world. And once they have a cc it is downhill from there.

I wish Dan would have someone have a guest column on ddms about how to budget and live within means and build wealth.

Many jump into cc because of ddms but they are ill equipped to deal with the temptation and responsibility that comes along with it.

So yes, I do feel Dan should be posting about this on ddms, not as a scoop on the scammer with exact details, rather as part of a general series about fiscal responsibility

If I get flack for this I will delete. sorry in advance

Glad I got a result and not flack

Thank you dan

FTR, at the beginning of every DDS Dan goes on for a while saying exactly this. If you are not disciplined, this game is not for you, the points are just not worth it if you will go into debt because of the spend.

True but everyone thinks it does not apply to them. A continuous series on the topic of ppl who got scammed or general tips on this subject would probably help more

Again, in no way is it Dan's fault, it is similar to why what'sapp started indicating forwarded messages as such and limiting the amount of ppl who you can forward to at once. It wasnt what'sapp fault that ppl in India where getting killed. But what'sapp still felt an achrayus to help combat the issue

The most interesting thing that I learned is how easy it is to get people to give you millions on their cards...

Maybe their lawyer got involved and suggested that confessing publicly was not a good idea?

I am the one who posted and then deleted. I was torn between loshon horah and trying to warn people for the future. Bh I was not involved but know a few people who are deep in CC debt because of this.

Still not sure if I did the right thing posting it. In my opinion they should have done it in a way to make the chargebacks easy and then file bankruptcy.

Why'd he delete his post?

Realized it's lashon hara. It won't help anyone involved and will just cause more gossip. If you read this thread you already know to not do this type of reckless spend
