General Discussion / Re: Stocks
« on: October 21, 2020, 12:47:03 PM »
Anyone else think the stock market will drop in the immediate aftermath of the election regardless of the outcome?

I don't see a scenario where it will go up.
If Trump wins there will likely be mass protests and some rioting.
If Biden wins (and Trump relinquishes power easily (imo very unlikely)) market will likely go down due to liberals being in power which the market usually believes is bad for business
If its a close election and Trump fights it or it goes to the courts the uncertainty will also cause mass protests, rioting, and I think it will cause the market to crash (at least temporarily).

From Agudath Israel of Madison (Rabbi Reisman)

As we approach Shmini Atzeres and Simchas Torah, our usual joy is tempered by concern and confusion. We make plans, with the usual optimism of our People.

Please read through this entire email. A few important points:

Safety – We must continue to wear masks (covering the mouth and nose), wash hands and practice social distancing. This is especially important when entering or exiting the building and during all services and anytime you are in proximity to other people. If you have a cold or don’t feel well, stay away.

Respect – WE SHOW RESPECT FOR THE NYPD. We have an excellent relationship with the local Police and wish to keep it that way. If any law enforcement people enter the building, please be respectful. Direct all questions to the Rov or Gabboim.

Media – Our policy is that any and all members of the media must remain outside of the Shul building. In the event that they arrive in Shul, politely tell them that they must leave. Please do not answer their questions. They are not our friends and we must suspect that they are looking to present us in a bad light.

Friday night – It is with a heavy heart, that we ask women not to come to Shul for the evening minyanim on either night. Maariv minyanim cannot be staggered and we therefore need the Ezras Nashim for the men. There will be simultaneous minyanim for Mincha/Maariv in the Shul, Simcha Hall and Courtyard. Those who do not have the custom of Shmini Atzeres Hakafos are asked to daven downstairs, where there will be no hakafos on Friday evening.

Shacharis minyanim will take place at 7:15 & 8:30.  An additional Yizkor Service for those who prefer not to come in the morning, will take place in the Sukkah, led by the Rov, at 4:30. There will be sections for men and women. The complete Siyum Mishnayos Yizkor will be recited at that time.

With great sadness, we recognize the urgent need to seriously modify the Simchas Torah schedule. It is painful to think of a Simchas Torah without the joy of celebrating with the Torah. We ask that you participate in the communal nigunim and singing, at your seats, so that we can feel the Simchas HaChag.

Hakafos – We will sing nigunim in place, while an individual takes the Sefer Torah around the Bima. Wherever possible, this honor will be given to families with multiple members in Shul, so that multiple Sifrei Torah can be honored at the same hakafah. Please respect the Gabbai’s discretion in giving out these kibbudim.

Shachris Minyanim – at 7:15 & 8:30

Aliyos – At the 7:15 minyan all attendees will receive their aliyos downstairs. At the 8:30 minyan, during each hakafah, the Gabbai will designate 10 people to go to the Simcha Hall for Aliyos. Only the one round of purchased Aliyos will take place in the main Beis Medrash. There will be no Kiddush.

Children –We regret that we cannot accommodate children below the age of 12 in Shul this year.

Siyum Mishnayos - In honor of the Siyum Mishnayos, the siyum will be recited in Shul after Mincha. Packaged snacks will be distributed for individuals to participate in the Siyum at their seats.

Please see the link below for the full schedule.

To have a meaningful Chag, we each need to put greater focus on our davening. The Shema Yisroel and subsequent pesukim that are usually recited flippantly at the beginning of each hakafah, can now be said with greater feeling.

LET’S DO IT – Let’s make this an inspiring Simchas Torah, despite the restrictions. While we will not be dancing, we can still celebrate with our voices, smiles and with our hearts. HaKadosh Boruch Hu – please accept our service to You and present Klal Yisroel, here, in Eretz Yisroel and wherever Jews our found with a truly excellent 5781!

What’s the easiest way for a n00b who doesn’t have a brokerage account yet to buy puts on Tesla ($1000-1500) with a strike date in 12+ months? And how is there no credit risk that the counter party will go bankrupt if the stock collapses?

What do you think the stock price will be in 12 months?

TSLA puts are very expensive

The 09/17/2021 $1,000 puts are trading at around $100, the $1,500 puts are trading for about $260

For a breakeven of $1500 you would have to buy the $2,000 puts which are trading for $500

Well that of course, you were just saying that the story didn't make sense, which I had confirmed firsthand that the story was accurate. Reconfirmed yesterday his response - "wasn't allowed to give BLS meds it's very dumb lol. You can give o2 and that's really about it"
lol knowing how to use an O2 tank and giving the right amount is probably the only "drug" that you even need training for

Oh dear, how long can we drag this out.. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the legalities of various EMS stuff, i'm a bit of a geek in that regard. Regardless, a prescribed med is just that, and you can't adminster that (helping self adminster is literllay that, going under the pt's prescription) to you deciding that it is indicated under a standing order. Narcan is a whole nother mess, because just because a good samiartan can now get it without a prescription, doesn't mean then when you are acting as an emt you may or may not need a standing order (had a whole discussion with the lady from sullivan county doh at a narcan training, complicated topic).

not disagreeing with you legally

practically I think its just dumb

So what exactly are you left to do if you cant do any of that? Administer CPR?
Stop the bleeding...

Not really sure how you are making the jump from a pt with self prescribed meds to a BLS provider that needs standing orders in the state that the drug is being administered in order to provide meds that the pt may or may not be prescribed with. It's not crazy to think that the DOH or the hospital whom he works for policy is to require an active card in the state to give the meds/drugs under the standing order/s of the medical director for the ambulance corp.

I believe Narcan is given out for free at most large pharmacies to anyone who wants (non medically trained) Aspirin is an OTC drug, and anyone who needs an Epipen should be carrying one on them (everyone in my family including myself who has allergies carry them), same with glucose

- BLS drugs are in the most part drugs that any good samaritan can help with

Or narcan or glucose techincally, or even regular 02 if you want to get techincal:) But yes I am quite familiar...  Like I said IIRC he was able to work as an EMT in jersey with his NY card, but unable to adminster BLS meds (I thought that was obvious).

Doesn't really make sense since all of those drugs can be administered by a good samaritan assuming the patients who need them carries it on them (epi, glucose, aspirin, some drug users even carry narcan) besides for O2

BLS meds really don't need much skill other then reading the instructions on the meds
besides for knowing how to setup an O2 tank which I'm assuming your friend can at least setup

IINM one can work in jersey with a NY license, I have a friend that works for a hospital in jersey that does that.. Though i think he said something about only his partner being able to give meds.

NY BLS doesn't give meds unless you are talking about Epipen, O2 with albuterol, or baby aspirin

General Discussion / Re: Laser eye surgery

Reviving this thread, as I'm seriously considering doing Lasik. Even with glasses my eyesight isn't as good as I wish it was, my glasses get sweaty and slip when I'm exercising, I hate feeling blind in middle of the night when my glasses are off or when they fog up from humid weather (or from a mask).

If anyone here has done it, who did you use in the NY/NJ area and would you recommend them?

My vision is really bad -10.00 last time I went to the Dr I asked about LASIK and they said I wouldn't be eligible for it but I should be able to get PRK surgery.
Anyone here get PRK?

Tell your shadchan you’re only willing to go out with guys that drive Tesla

I guess I'm good I drive a Tesla and it is extremely clean. I've never eaten in it once.

And I could just use a supercharger station as a date spot  ;)

I'll start.

I dated a guy once whose car looked like a homeless person lived in it. The seat was cleared but the floor was covered in junk, the cup holders exploding in old tissues and crumpled up trash.  I had to sit with legs pressed against the door to avoid touching garbage.

While driving, he pulled out a bag of chips (none for me of course) and proceeded to inhale the contents of the bag. Upon finishing, crumpled up the bag and threw it over his head to the back.

I can't believe this is real, there is no way anyone would actually do that.
