have an alitalia flight tlv-fco-vce. fco is a 23 hr stopover are they going to hold luggage or do i have to pick it up? do i want to leave it with alitalia?

look into pilatus, titlis, Kleiner Scheidegg, depending on your time.
Or perhaps a boatride on Lake Lucerne.

I recommend you try to avoid the Zurich-Bern train route as it is does not have the scenery Switzerland is known for.

my question was which one of those(or more tthan one( should i do?

Stay by the St regis, its the closest to the grand synagogue (8 min taxi ride) and then from the to the airport is 35 min IIRC.  The main minyan for Shacharis there is @ 745, but they did have an earlier one downstairs, IIRC it was @7 or 7:15
