General Discussion / Re: Laser eye surgery

Wow very informative.

Does such a surgery wear away after a couple years?

Just curious what does such a surgery cost?
I'm assuming insurance won't cover such a thing?

It isn't supposed to but I've heard anecdotal reports of vision slightly worsening after ten years. It's possible to do an adjustment to recorrect.

It cost 2k for both eyes which also includes all follow ups. That's on the cheap end, this Dr does 60-70 of these per month and hasn't raised his price in ten years. Insurance will not cover, they consider it a cosmetic surgery.

I did Lasik this afternoon with Dr Perrone. The procedure took a few minutes, BH I feel great right now and seeing clearly for the first time in almost 30 years!

When JCPL turned power back on it caused a large power surge that fried a lot of valuable equipment (despite use of surge protectors). Are they liable?

i was at the dmv on route 70 at 8 and they were going to give me a 1pm slot except that i needed to renew license (didnt work online for me..), and was told that i cant get it done here, only in freehold or eatontown and there i need to camp out at 3am...
Licenses are automatically extended until the end of December. And I believe Tom's River is also ok for license renewal

Just Shmooze / Re: Whoop Strap - anyone wearing?

I'm not wearing it but I've been very tempted to get it. Just not ready to bite that signicant cost on top of what I already pay for fitness, especially because many reviews say it's best at getting you to sleep more and that isn't happening here (although I know it should).

I would not wear on Shabbos but I'm curious what you'll hear!

Is eating before fast bad because drinking is good?
The idea is electrolytes are good and so is water, so either do like so:Or just have them separately
Interesting, thanks

It's good but not a replacement
So it's actually worse? Then why do doctors specifically recommend Powerade before the fast to pregnant women?

COVID-19 / Wuhan Novel Coronavirus Discussion / Re: Heroes Blog Here!

As time passes, I am only getting more and more impressed by the selflessness and dedication of @cgr . She has started numerous threads about all sorts of financial aid for struggling people, aside from her website which contains an encyclopedia of information.

Here are just some of the threads she started over the last four months:
Fee Waivers due to Coronavirus
Coronavirus Stimulus Aid Package
Residential Mortgages
Compassionate Helper Volunteer Program- NY
NY Rent Relief
Heath Insurance Premium Credits
IRS Tax Credits Available for Business (FFCRA and ERTC)
New York Forward Loan Fund
NJ Rent Assistance Program
NJ Small Business Emergency Assistance Grant Program
Main Street Lending Program
NY Rent Assistance Program
NJ Commercial Rent Relief

But most impressive is how she responds to every question, often for the fifth or sixth time, with endless patients and clarity. So many people are lost when it comes to these matters, and they cannot afford to hire accountants or lawyers, but they are helped through the work of @cgr . Her website has no advertisers, and she doesn't charge a penny for her services here on DDF.

Some people get involved in activism because it brings them attention, but this forum is anonymous. Some get involved because it's easy and exciting, but they get burned out when it drags on too long. It has been four months already, and she doesn't stop answering each question, often doing research in order to do so.

Here's just a simple post from today - the 2,544th post on a thread almost completely moderated by her - that gives a glimpse into the type of work she has done for others.

I'm jealous of your Olam Habah, @cgr .
Can't agree with this enough

If it does, I would love to be involved. It's been a while but I was a magazine editor back in the day.
